What made it bad for you , for me it was that characters such as emperor and qimin got too much screen time ,…
Yeah, they have run the Qian Qian kidnapping story into the ground. I’m just ready for Qi Min to die now. I wish we had more episodes to deal with the palace intrigue properly but based on previews it’s coming to a quick end.
I agree. It was perfect until around ep27.The main issue is they stopped following the original story. I know…
Wow! It makes so much more sense for XZ to kill Prince ChangXin. He is tied more to XZ’s story than hers. Her killing the other general was fine or even having her kill Sui Yuanqing would have made more sense.
I don’t like it. It looks too bulky for her and betrays who her character.
And that’s what I hate about it. You can be feminine and strong. Why does a woman need masculine traits to be strong? That’s what made her character great early in the series. She was feminine and strong. She was soft but a strong provider. She was caring about of others. The problem with most dramas when trying to make a tough female character, they just copy what they think a strong male character would be like. That’s not what made Changyu attractive. They have fallen into the same “tough guy” FL trope that is overly used in Cdramas. Few get it right. This show had it right earlier. Now we are in Mary Sue, girl boss territory.
It's not arrogance.. She's basically defending herself. She can't let those officials insult her just becoz she's…
Actually in that time period, respect wasn’t earned at all. It was based on what family you were born into and your rank in society. Talking like she was talking could get her whole family executed. I guess we can just chalk it up to this state having a weak emperor.
You're not alone. I've been complaining too. Anyone who cares for good storytelling is up in arms.
Unfortunately, I feel that a lot this is because of the time constraints. The editing is choppy and the writing is inconsistent. The FL is being written over powered and a bit obnoxious. A lot of her ascension strains believability based on what we have seen her accomplish so far. She also lacks the family backing to be able to throw her weight around in court, especially as a woman in that day. I’m ok with pushing beyond what’s believable in these dramas as long as you stay in the lines of the world you have created. We are in a world where people are super strong and fall off cliffs and survive. But they also established a world early on where a class system exists. And they are currently crossing those lines established earlier. Again, I think it’s an issue of running out of time and having to push the story forward any kind of way. Either that or we have a new writer. I’m still enjoying the show but I can admit it’s not as great as what we saw earlier in the season. Just hoping for a quality finish at this point.
This is one reason why I like to wait until after a drama has finished airing. It helps me decide whether I want…
I don’t really need a shoe to have a happy ending, I just need it to be organic and earned based on the storytelling that was previously shown. I don’t want a happy ending thrown on if the show didn’t warrant it. At the same time I don’t want a tragic ending just because the director wanted to be artsy and leave an impression.
I really wanted to smack the one who was calling him Prince Consort. Like, STFU, dude. You know he is madly in…
That was super unrealistic. It was highly disrespectful and in that time period, he could have been executed and there wouldn’t have been a damn thing FCY could do about it. A soldier couldn’t even get away with doing that to a modern general with some consequences.
Pursuit of Jade has officially overtaken the legendary Love Between Fairy and Devil to claim the #4 spot on iQiyi's…
Not shocking to me. This show is definitely getting added to my favorites list alongside The Double, Blossom, The Story Yanxi Palace, The Princess Weiyoung and Twelve Letters. Can’t wait to do a rewatch once it ends.
The palace intrigue plot is so interesting. I hate that they have to speed run it. We really need another 20 episodes just to deal with all the intrigue. You can’t just have Li Huaian and Qi Min meet like that and try to unpack it all in eight episodes. And we are just getting into the love triangle (even though LH doesn’t stand a chance). Xie Zheng also said he plans to depose the emperor! Some people are saying they should do a second season. I agree. There is just too much story left. I’d rather them end with a cliffhanger and give us a fully realized story than rush the ending. This story is just too good to rush.
I'm glad they addressed Chang Yu knocking Li Huai'an out as a problem. She was right about everything she said,…
She wasn’t right about anything. She can’t predict the future. And she didn’t do a medical check up on him. These characters fight with injuries all the time. Also, if he’s that injured, more blunt force trauma is the last thing he needs. Here is where the writing gets thin. Li is knocked out so she can be in position to go face the main bad guy. Then XZ leaves the main bad guy to chase SYQ and save General He so that FCY can conveniently face the main bad guy and gain fame. Of course the great XZ fails at both of his tasks. He lets SYQ escape and never gets to General He. This is where the writing has gotten thin and contrived. It’s not terrible and still entertaining but it’s not as sharp as what we had in earlier episodes. I chalk it up to time constraints more than anything. We don’t have to organically make her into a famous general so we create things like knocking out a general in the middle of a battle and having XZ go on a wild goose chase to give FCY the chance to be a hero. I know we have to get to that point and it has been going well up till now, but in the last two episodes it didn’t feel earned. That’s sad because her fight with the first big boss was so well done and felt organic.
I do wish we could see more growth montages from her, training etc, true. The thing about the forcing her decisions…
This is what a lot of people feared when they spent so much time developing the town story. Ultimately the pay off was worth it, but I fear we are now paying for that early set up. The Qian Qian escape was the worst bit of writing so far. It’s obvious that they were running out of episodes fast, so story had to be sacrificed. I hate to see this happen because the story has been great so far. I fear that we will see more of this because there is too much story to tell with so few episodes left.
