This is when I wish we still had longer running dramas like they used to make. At some point soon they will need to move the story to deal with all the political/palace intrigue.

I love how they are setting them up as a content little family. And they are setting us up as well because we know that will not last. I just need Changyu to be straight and let Xie Zhang know what she wants. Girl go ahead and get you some, you’re married. This is reminding me of Blossom and how it took forever for the main couple to consummate their marriage.

He’s insane and way to possessive. My question is if he is the father of Yu Qian’s son? But wouldn’t she know?

For me this easily the best Cdrama of 2026 and it’s not even close. I just hope it can maintain the quality for 30 more episodes. Glad to have a drama I can’t wait to watch each day instead of just one that I’m finding time for.

I have noticed a lot of shows have been edited to hell. I think it’s because Cdramas are running shorter. We are getting more shows with just 32 to 34 episodes. I think that hurts the overall story especially when adapting a book. I remember watching Story of Yanxi Palace and even the side characters and villains had full back stories and character development. You could really understand the motivations behind each character. I’m not saying every show needs 70 episodes but I think 42 to 45 is a good compromise.

I know some people want to just see romance between the main couple but there is more to the story. You can already see how that secondary interaction impacted the main couple. Mr. Li got called back just because things went south with Sun and the grand princess. I haven’t read the book but it’s clear these characters and relationships will impact the main couple. I can’t wait till the story moves to the capital. Oh, and the emperor already looks like a pushover.

You can see that they are setting the table for the larger drama with the introduction of more of the high ranking characters. I expect the move to happen sooner than later. Should be a culture shock for the FL and her little sister.

They introduced a bunch of new characters in these last two episodes. Also making us question the identities of characters we already know. Love that the story is expanding. At some point I think we will leave the current location and head to the capital.

I’m just glad they gave us a strong and capable FL without the need to nerf the ML to make her look even better. No wimpy, princess ML here. They both can kick butt.

So far my favorite Cdrama of the year. Hope the story holds. Loving the romance and mystery.

And rare for a reason I might add. A wimpy ML is not viewed in an attractive light. He doesn’t have to be a stoic master swordsman but a damsel in distress from the ML is not attractive.

The ML was written more as a supporting character so there was no need for him to carry any part of this drama. Did Wang Xingyue know what he was getting himself into before he took this drama? He was a male lead in name only.

The CP coming in at the end was totally unnecessary. Adding a character at the very end is ridiculous. He added nothing to the plot. In reality you could have had the uncle plot the death of Consort Shu on his own.

Easy watch means you didn’t have to think much about it to follow along. A lot of action movies are popcorn movies that aren’t written the best but are easy to watch because you can turn you brain off. HDY is a popcorn series that’s easy watching. I’d recommend it to people but I’m not going to act like it was a masterpiece. There were plenty of logic gaps and corny dialogue but it’s worth a watch because it was funny and the romance was good.

I think in the book the CP was the real bad guy. It is so weird to introduce him so late. Unless they are definitely planning a S2 it is odd to bring him in so late. Glad the chancellor got his due though.

Uncle Lou is what Xiao Haujin feared Peiyi would become. He is totally lost in his revenge and without conscious.

Overall I think the cuts to get this show down to 34 episodes hurt the show. You can tell they cut too much out. The crown prince introduction was too late in the story. The end credit scene made it seem like they might have a S2 but do you really feel a threat from him. I can also tell they cut much of the Wuyen/Prosecutor Gu story. I think much of the character development was lost in the cuts. Overall I’ll give this one a 8.0. Not sure if I’m 100% satisfied with the wrap up but if they had a S2 I’d watch it.

I actually thought HDY was poorly written as well. I think the cast saved it and it was overall an easy watch.

The emperor continues to be a dirt bag. Someone died in front of them and he’s basically holding Consirt Shu accountable. “Better not be any more accidents.” He’s so superstitious. It’s his superstition that was exploited to get rid of Peiyi’s family.
