Good observation about the tone. Previews can be deceptive but it did feel like a tonal shift occurred in 19 and 20. Hopefully the writing stays strong as they make the shift to the capital. One of the shows I liked this year was Prusuit of Jade. The writing and story up to ep. 15 was amazing. But as it went along and by ep 25 the quality of the show really fell off after they did a shift of location. Let’s hope that doesn’t occur. I was at least encouraged to see Tingyue hug Zhao from behind. She’s still supporting him. Although it was equally ominous to see him climb those stairs alone. They are stronger as a duo, so we will see how that works out.

Right. Because the higher you rise the more enemies you tend to make. It’s like what Madam Yu said, you rise while others tend to fall. It’s like when General Mo was going to be demoted while Zhao was going to get promoted. You can tell there was some bitterness from Mrs. Mo even though it wasn’t Zhao or Tingyun’s fault. They would be better off leading a simple life away from the capital but I guess there wouldn’t be a drama.

Just watched ep 19 and 20 teasers. Looks like more excuses for them not to get married. Zhao is starting to rise fast now. Looks like more enemies are targeting them. When will Zhao realize that he doesn’t have to prepare a way or make things perfect for Tingyun? Do it together. Get married and start your family. Life is never going to not have obstacles.

There is a pivotal moment between the couple that is a must watch. So you definitely need to watch episode 16. The scheming by one of the villains is infuriating though. Kudos to the actor for such a fine job. I couldn’t hate a character more.

So glad that ZL and FTY finally said what need to be said at the latern festival. And we got our first kiss. Now go get married kids. But that conversation was needed, especially after Jinxue put the idea in ZL’s mind that he was holding FTY back. I’m really loving this couple. I love that they are taking the time to show them building a life together. And it’s showing us their love deepen.

I just realized, I didn’t hate Yu Jinxue enough. Dude you’re married! You made your choice. Now stick with Yake and leave Tingyue alone.

See I hope they do it like that. Imagine if they were married with a child by the 18th episode. That creates an inner struggle. How much are you willing to risk? Is revenge still worth it? A child creates a legitimate weakness that your enemies can exploit.

Some similarities. Except Songmo was already a top general and Dou Zhao was already a powerful merchant who became even stronger by the ending. Here the couple doesn’t have the power base of Blossom’s couple. They are creating it as they go along.

Yes. These two don’t feel like Mary Sue characters, which has basically been what we have gotten all year for Cdramas.

Yeah I love that. He’s no secret prince and they both are st rock bottom when they start. And what’s even better is they don’t gain some magical rank to head of the army after one battle. It feels like time is passing as they make a home together. We do get a month skip. I do wonder if we are going to get a skip ahead by a year or two.

I find her and the grandmother to be the most treacherous. At least Zuo has the excuse of being driven crazy by grandmother.

Some thoughts. It is frustrating me that they haven’t gotten married. It honestly makes no sense and it’s actually putting FuTing in unnecessary danger. I heard the Zhao Ling’s excuse. Nothing in life will every be perfect. Get married. Also I don’t have a problem with Madam Zuo’s death or her brother’s. The grandmother and her best friend are the real villains behind her plight. Zuo was just driven insane by the grandmother. Looking at the previews it looks like we are going to get the obligatory separation between ML/FL. I just want them to stay away from as many of the tropes as possible. It’s so refreshing to see the couple work from the very bottom up and time is given to that. It would be even better if they got married and worked from the bottom up.

Ok. I just binged all day to get caught up yo episode 14. I’m really enjoying it so far. It feels fresh because it’s actually showing them go from nothing to something. Usually the hero fights one battle and becomes the general of an entire army. Or the FL will do something meritorious and becomes a princess over night. This is actually feeling like a journey.

Yes. I did watch it. There was no bragging in her tone. She mentioned the family members who were doctors. It was the interviewer who keyed in on the great grandfather and asked follow-up questions.

He was so famous that no one knew about it till now. She’s not some new actress. And no, I’m not dumb. It takes intelligence to understand nuance and context. Something you clearly lack the ability to do.

She was asked question. It’s not like she initiated it and just started talking about how she was proud of her pro Japan grandfather. Based on her answers it’s clear she wasn’t fully aware of his past.

Have you looked up your great grandparents? A lot of people don’t. She probably got a sugar coated history of her ancestors from her parents and didn’t bother to look them up. So it wouldn’t be unusual for someone from her generation not to check. But as soon as she was aware that she was going to start sharing info about her family publicly, she should have researched their background. She’s not a child. I feel for her though. I hate to see another promising Korean actress blacklisted while a bunch of very problematic male actors continue their careers without worry.

I was just saying I can’t wait to see the FL in some other lead role. Her controversy is dominating my timeline. It doesn’t look good for her career at all. Wow.

A few where the FL is way too pretty for the ML: My Liberation Notes, Eve and Beyond the Bar. I would say in 60% of the cases with Kdramas, the ML is a toad with a princess. There are very Lee Jaewooks to go around. In contrast, Cdrama MLs are almost as pretty as the FLs. 😆

Over a man. Honestly it upsets me just to go into it. She was basically accused of manipulating her boyfriend to behave badly towards a popular Kpop idol, who was his costar at the time. Kinda made her out to be a bully. Sad that there are men with worse infractions on their resume, that are confirmed, and their careers are still going.
