Thoughts on ep. 20. Definitely getting into the meat of things. I’m starting to feel uneasy about the emperor now. It’s like he’s setting Zhao up to take the fall if all of this blows up. And he needs to marry Tingyun fast. First time I felt he was out of his depth dealing with these nobles. Tingyun has a better understanding of how these snakes operate. Lastly, Yake going after Tian Wan Yi was dumb. She’s way out of her league.

I thought the new girl was there to be the concubine for Jingxiu and mess up Yake’s life. Why is she interfering with Zhao and Tingyun’s relationship?

I’m fine with that. I enjoy the fact that he’s a commoner without some lofty past.

I also think a problem that has occurred as a whole is series being cut short. I feel that a story should go as long as needed to tell the story. A lot of shows are forced into a 36 episode limit. If that’s enough to tell the story without filler or rushing then fine. But if the story can be told in less or needs more then that should be allowed. With a lot of shows it feels like they have to rush the ending because they are running out of episodes. That hurts the story. If you need 70+ episodes like Yanxi Palace then so be it. I just hate the forced limits unless you are planning on multiple seasons then it’s fine.

A 5 year skip will do that. Glad they hired an adult actor instead of trying to make the little kid look older. Now it’s time for Zhao and Tingyun to find him a wife.

She could be one of the bad guys behind the scenes. She is definitely one of messy women in social circles. She throws the bait out there and then watches the other women fight over it.

It still didn’t make sense though. He was still being called her fiancée. So it was still being acknowledged. Yake and the other women started inquiring and making the accusation that she had been jilted because they had not married yet. She’s 24 and he’s actually harming her reputation at this point. During this time period, women would get married between 14 and 20. If he really wanted to keep her safe, the best option would be for her not to come back to the capital.

She did have a kinda sneaky, ominous look in her eyes while observing the interaction between Madam Yu, Yake and Tingyun. It made me think she might be one of the conspirators behind the scenes.

Wow. Had they gotten married 5 years ago, we could have gotten that.

How many kids do they have in the book?

I’m hoping they all come to the capital for the wedding.

At the beginning it appeared that they had been friends since childhood and that Yake was pure and innocent. Later as the show goes on we find that she has been carrying around all this jealousy and animosity towards Tingyun.

I see your point. I forget that we are supposed to consider Tingyun and Yake as teenagers at the beginning of the series. Probably 18 and 16 respectively based on Yake’s account of their ages in ep. 19. So you’re making a good Yake defense case but I still hate her.
