At the beginning it appeared that they had been friends since childhood and that Yake was pure and innocent. Later as the show goes on we find that she has been carrying around all this jealousy and animosity towards Tingyun.

I see your point. I forget that we are supposed to consider Tingyun and Yake as teenagers at the beginning of the series. Probably 18 and 16 respectively based on Yake’s account of their ages in ep. 19. So you’re making a good Yake defense case but I still hate her.

I don’t understand the concubines role at this point. It would make more sense had Yake been childless or had a daughter. I am curious how she will be used in the series.

Tingyun needs to change that then. I was wanting her to slap the daylight out of Yake for mocking her at the social about finding a husband. I personally value true friendship. So this character pushes all kinds of buttons in me.

I guess we will see how it plays. I am not a fan of separation storylines in Cdramas because they rarely make any sense. I loved the five year skip for plot purposes. Plus we aren’t actually watching five years of separation be played out over several episodes. But if they were to drag out them being a part or the marriage then I would be really upset. Although I am kinda upset because I still argue that they should have been married back in the Gamlin.

It’s funny that you say that because that came to my mind after watching ep. 19. Even though Tingyun put Yake in her place at the social, she was also a bit too caring for her. She was looking a bit too sweetly towards Yake’s baby. I know it’s a baby! But that’s not your friend anymore. She also stood up for Yake to Madam Yu. And worst of all, she seemed to hint that Yake wasn’t the worst of the people who did her wrong. How was she not one of the worst? Aside from the grandmother I would put her at the top of the list. It’s worse when your relative or best friend betray you. I hope Tingyun doesn’t give Yake an out because of their past friendship. Yake isn’t a victim. And if she’s victimized by Yu and Jingxiu, it’s because of her own actions.

This is my prediction for the ending anyway. I have nothing to go off on except how the characters act but I suspect that the ending will have Zhao and Tingyun taking their family back to the desert to live out their lives. I don’t think capital life is for this couple. Even though it was a struggle, I believe they were happy in the desert.

They will be back together next episode.

I agree. I know it’s appropriate to their culture but after rewatching earlier episodes, I feel the Fu family deserves no part in the rise of Zhao and Tingyun. The grandmother tried to kill her own granddaughter just to protect the reputation of the clan. And she knew she was innocent. He should only seek permission from the maternal clan, The Xies.

I agree because I didn’t hear anything about this show. I just accidentally came across it. I started watching it because I liked Ding in Fight For Love. Although that story left a lot to be desired, he impressed me. They really dropped the ball on marketing this show. It’s better than most of the high profile shows that came out this year. At least so far.

No doubt. You can only hope. I felt a similar occurrence with Pursuit of Jade. I find that most Cdramas struggle with their back half and landing the endings. I’m still loving it 19 episodes in, so fingers crossed.

You might hate this then. Yake’s arc still has more to resolve. I suspect we will have to deal with Yake and Jingxiu till the end since the actors who play those characters are listed high on the acting bill. I love capital drama so it works for me. It’s definitely a different tone from the Ganlin setting. Of course that’s done with purpose. You can tell from costume, set design, sound, etc. They definitely want the audience to feel the shift. We are only two episodes into this arc so hopefully it ends up working for you.

Is Miss Wu the concubine I have heard people speak of? Does she have a big role in the book? How does she factor in the story?
