Bloody hell! They ended it on another cliffhanger. I feel like drop-kicking the producers or MDL users right now. I was led to believe that this was the final season and was only necessary because they ran out of money during the production of the first season. I am pretty sure that I am going to lose my sanity waiting for the next season. How could they do this to the fanboys?!
Watching the film was such a unique experience. I never imagined films could be so charming and melancholic at the same time. I have watched the film three times already but I can just feel that I am only getting started. Also, the inaccurate description needs to be changed ASAP.
I'm not really hopeful about this. From the trailer, it seems okay at best. But then again, the original Korean is such a fantastic show regardless of that show's weak finale.
It's such a great drama but there are some things I don't understand. What was the need for the scene in the pilot of Young-yi's character where her seniors ogle at her? We never see them again and it seems so jarring with the rest of her character arc. The same goes for the girl who keeps seeking Gue-rae's attention. What happened to her? They should have deleted the trip to Jordan subplot and instead focused on tying up such loose ends. It's still a 9/10 show though.
If I have this right, Guan Hongfeng was placed at the scene of the crime after passing out due to his condition. So wasn't he framed? I don't know why he thought framing his twin brother was a good idea, but what I don't get is why did he give Zhou Xun that sinister smile after he was arrested. What was Ye going to tell Shutong about Guan Hongfeng before he was shot? And why the hell are Zhou Xun and Guan Hongfeng pointing guns at each other on the season 2 poster? Do these imply that he was evil the whole time? I hope this is not the case as Guan Hongfeng and Zhou Xun alongwith Zhou Shutong are the characters I liked the most. I don't want to see them fight each other. What do you people think?
I enjoyed watching this one. It doesn't start strongly, but by the end I was left wanting for more. I just wish that Netflix licenses the second season as well.
Like you, I am baffled by the Douban score. MDL scores are virtually always inflated, so I tend to take them with a grain of salt. But Douban really misled me this time because unlike yours my experience wasn't so enjoyable. The limited acting ability of the two male leads, especially Ding Mao's actor, and God knows how many plot conveniences seriously hindered my enjoyment.
I don't get it. A score of 8.2 on Douban (HOW?!) and 8.6 here? I do love the direction and cinematography, the soundtrack is serviceable, the actors are also pretty good, although it becomes evident immediately that the acting ability of the two male leads is pretty limited. They almost ace the lighter scenes but fail to replicate similar form for the more dramatic scenes. Ding Mao's actor in particular often seems to be overacting, the female leads fare far better though. The biggest flaw, however, is the writing. For a mystery/thriller, both the main plot and the various subplots lack any real suspense and intrigue. There are so many plot conveniences here that it gets to a point where your eyes begin to hurt from the eye-rolling.
Honestly, I expected more from this drama after reading all the praise for it in the comment section here and seeing the high score both here and at viki.com. My conclusion would be that it's one of the most overrated pieces of entertainment media I have ever come across. The 7.4 score it has over at the Chinese website Douban is fairer, but in my opinion even that is a bit higher than what it is actually worth.
My biggest problem with the drama is that for some reason everybody in this drama tends to scream their motivations, feelings, reactions? I don't mind melodrama, but there's a far better way to do it than what is at display here. It just makes all the characters seem garish. Every scene doesn't need to be loud; the director needs to learn subtlety.
Edit: Apparently, this releases in 2022. WTH?
