I find it a bit boring and tedious at times, 87 episodes is a lot to go through. I'm still on ep 53. Now skipping…
I didn't find it boring at all. While watching, I kept thinking, "this is just slice-of-life in the Qing Dynasty, haha!" Everything is so beautiful and crafted with such care. Right now, I'm actually mad because nothing I watch after this masterpiece can hold my attention.
I watched all 87 episodes with several Wikipedia tabs open to learn about the concubine rankings, the Qianlong Emperor, and the Ula Nara Empress. I even researched if she had any surviving descendants or family members, and I was so sad to find out that her branch of the family is extinct.

Very well said, when he did all those things for Rong, when he hit Ruyi, when he desified everyone for his true…
It was a big disappointment, it seemed like it was with me. And going through everything she went through and yet he said he couldn't do anything to do her justice. That is why everyone attacked her, because she could not fight back and he allowed them

I’ve finished it now, and I’m thinking so deeply about the things we do (and endure) for love...... none of it is worth it in the end. Just live, enjoy, love... but never put all your trust in someone else...

This series is a masterpiece. don't let the episode count discourage you. The pacing is so gripping that you'll breeze through all 87 episodes. The acting is impeccable and the cinematography is absolutely perfect.

(And I'm sorry for flooding the comments!!!! I was just so angry and sad watching this that I had to let it out)

When she (RUYI) was a consort, he wouldn't let the painter paint them together because he claimed it was an honor reserved only for the Empress. But now that he’s fallen madly in love with the princess of the Han tribe, he calls the painter to capture him and Consort Rong together!
My heart is literally breaking for Ruyi and she deserved none of this!!!!!!!! I am certain that he would never put Rong through half of what he let Ruyi endure. With Ruyi, it was always 'her duty' to suffer and swallow her grievances because he 'couldn't upset the balance of the harem.' But for Rong? He’s willing to do everything and anything.

QIANLONG IS A COWARD! He avoids everything he doesn’t know how to solve. He avoids people, he avoids situations. Deep down, he makes his choices but doesn't want anyone to be upset with him for them so he 'avoids their gaze' or says he doesn't want to see them. And then, when the person dies, he’s filled with remorse, blaming himself for not paying attention, for not listening when they wanted to talk, and for not seeing them when they wanted to see him.

Every woman in this harem is a victim, from the most villainous to the most innocent. They were victims of a society that pushed them into these situations just to survive in the Forbidden City, trying to please a single man while forty other women did the exact same thing. All of them were abandoned there, either by their families or by love itself. Loneliness is the only thing they all have in common, regardless of their rank.

I truly was born in the right century. I love having my freedom, working, and having my own money. My heart breaks for all those who came before me in this world, who never had the opportunity to live for themselves.

I finally started watching this after it being on my watchlist since I joined MDL in 2018. I must say that Story of Yanxi Palace is one of my favorite C-dramas, and I felt really sorry for the Ula Nara consort. I felt a tightness in my chest for her because she didn't want to be bad, but her environment and the way she had to survive brought out all the darkness from within her. Sometimes, when you're in a toxic environment, that just happens. Her nuances always captivated me, even though the main character was Wei Ying Luo.

Now, we have the Ula Nara version of history, and I’ve avoided watching it until now because of those 81 episodes! haha. I've just started, and I'll come back to comment as the story progresses. I'M SO EXCITED

Yeah it was a good show, not the best or the worst but nothing too deep. I was actually expecting a plot twist where he really was the murderer since the whole series has that mystery/crime tone and I think it would've been more interesting if she got attached to the case because of her dad's case and Do-raik was actually the killer, she saves him, stays with him and then finds out later haha.

But I don't think the show's goal was even to be something serious. I'm biased though because I hate every Korean series that Netflix is involved in (I think they ruined Korean dramas and most of them feel so empty, they make shows for people who watch series while on their phone without paying much attention). THAT SAID, despite everything the actors have really good chemistry which is the strong point of the story. And the FL actually seems to have even MORE chemistry WITH THE PROSECUTOR than with Do-raik in the few interactions they had, it was very enemies to lovers.........

Haven’t visited this page in a minute but DAMN.. that rating is actually insane.. I’m so glad I chose not…
I never look at ratings for anything I'm going to watch, and most ratings here aren't real, they're either inflated by fans or dragged down by haters

I was thinking the same thing by the end of this last episode. She got mad at Do Raik and entered the apartment to kill him in the dark, but accidentally hit U Seong instead.

But I've been suspicious of Do Raik from the very beginning. Who else would benefit more from the other one's death? Plus, there are so many scenes where he's like 'it wasn't me' and she (Se Na) believes him because he was such a bad actor. I DON'T KNOW, I'VE BEEN THINKING THIS FROM THE START. And about the drummer's car with the note, that was the girl's father working with the prosecutor's father to "wrap things up quickly".

I think it would be a hell of a twist if he was indeed the killer and Maeng Se Na only finds out after she got him out of jail. She took his case because of the similarities with her father's story... BUT IF THERE'S NO TWIST AND WE GET THEIR ROMANCE IN THE END WITH HYE JO AS THE KILLER I WON'T COMPLAIN!

Just started watching and I love how they're using moles/birthmarks to identify the younger versions of characters instead of doing that cringy thing where they just put adults in school uniforms

It’s not too bad, but not amazing either. It’s pretty average, but the chemistry between the leads saves it. The story is good and 'lighthearted.' It feels like the author watched a bunch of shows in this genre and said, "This time, everything is going to work out"

I think that theory is a little far fetched. They both were from single mother families and had very strong moms.…
Yes, that’s basically what I meant there. I’m not criticizing the story!! I really enjoyed the main couple.
