I found a drama with that old-school vibe we used to watch. It's good and keeps you hooked, but I don’t know what happened after episode 9, it gets kinda meh. No doubt, I gave it a 7.5 because of the ending (not because of the conflicts, translation errors, etc.), but because of (I’ll reply here to avoid spoilers ^^)

If you're looking for a drama with that classic 2009-2015 series vibe, this is the one for you!

Okay, I just finished this, and I liked it, but I think it could’ve been better. I don’t know what’s happening…
It almost feels like they cut the series in half, and the whole development of the war between the nations seems to have been left out. Based on the plot and the story at the beginning, this show should’ve been at least 47 episodes long

Okay, I just finished this, and I liked it, but I think it could’ve been better. I don’t know what’s happening with this genre lately, but the forced happy endings seem to be messing things up. The plot feels really complicated but rushed, with a lot of things being resolved too quickly without enough development. That said, it’s still enjoyable to watch. The male lead is a great actor, I’ve seen him in another series, and he was fantastic. The comedy is solid too, but overall, it just feels kind of plain.

Despite everything, I still recommend watching it. The scenery is beautiful, and the storyline is good, although I think it wasn't fully explored. I’d give it an 7/10.

I can't believe this story has only 7.9 on drama list. It's worth much more than that. The story is much better…
I think the problem people have is more with the actress than with the FL. I think that, even though Angela sometimes falls short, the character is true to herself and her family. I’d say she’s one of the most ‘logical’ heroines I’ve seen in Chinese dramas. She does what she believes is right for her, and what’s best for the future. She simply accepts that some things are the way they are and moves forward, she’s very practical.

She lived as a man for a long time in a time/country where women didn’t have many choices or opportunities. And I think the ML, even though he admires that about her, sometimes still sees her as just a woman of that time, 'forgetting' to share plans or leaving things out (especially in the beginning and the part I’m at now)."

I’m not a hater of Angela Baby (and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything with her), but I feel like she kind of drags the story down. If it were any other actress, I think the story would be much better. Sometimes it feels like the ML is more emotional than the FL, but I think that’s just because of her lack of expression. In scenes where she should be showing some emotion, either through her gaze or body language, you don’t feel anything. Even though the character is supposed to be tough at times, there are moments when you’d expect her to break a little and show some emotion, but unfortunately, she doesn’t.

I've lowkey been waiting for this for about 1.5 years, I think? And sometimes I feel like it’s kinda cringe, though I’m not exactly sure why... something just doesn’t feel right. I’m on episode 22 now, and aside from that, I’m enjoying it. The story’s good, though sometimes some things feel overdone.

And i must say, I LOVE it when they show the other side of ancient China, like the tribes with horses (if anyone can enlighten me on what to call them). I watch every show with that theme, like Princess Agents, The Long Ballad, and some of these are my favorites. So, I confess, maybe I was a little too hyped for this. But I think that besides the stuff that feels a little off (I don't know if I’m complaining a lot, but sometimes it seems like they edited the eyes of a few characters or, in some impactful moments, the contact lenses look weird, like one eye goes in one direction and the other goes in another hahahaha) it’s good!

I gave it a high rating even though the ending wasn't exactly what I wanted, but there are some coherent elements…
I had mentioned that the storyline seemed odd, and I even thought there might have been a lot of cuts, but later I read that four people wrote the story. But despite everything, I consider it a good series.

Their chemistry is so good that if she hadn’t just gotten married, I would have thought the two of them were dating off-screen! Hahaha

and i must say: everything bad that happens to Mei Lin after the crown prince is defeated is Yue Qin's fault. He is very weak as a person, as a man, as an heir. Completely incapable—I’m seriously so angry at him.

When I commented here, I was on episode 24 and feeling a bit disappointed, but the series finale is really good. The beginning and the end are both great, I totally recommend watching it! I think I’m even going to give it a higher rating than I initially planned.

im always watching Wu Ji An’s series, I just love her characters. But Liu Xue Yi was such a nice surprise! Never seen him in anything before, and now I’m 100% checking out more of his stuff. Plus, he looks so good in those period costumes

I get the feeling that Chinese series, especially the historical ones, are getting scenes or even whole episodes…
btw the fight scenes here are SO good

I get the feeling that Chinese series, especially the historical ones, are getting scenes or even whole episodes cut to the point where the story feels shallow and superficial. They shorten the episodes, but the plots are still dragged out. There are good actors with great chemistry, but the script behind it often just doesn't make sense.

And that’s unfortunately what happened with this series. I haven’t finished it yet, I’m on episode 24, but it’s obvious that there was probably a lot more that couldn’t make it on screen, and that leaves me feeling a bit frustrated.

Is this something entertainment companies are pushing for? Cutting down the number of episodes to save on production costs? Or maybe it’s due to the actors' busy schedules? Or even censorship? So many questions. Aside from how I feel, it *is* a good series, the first 5 episodes are REALLY GOOD and didn’t deserve the rest of the series, haha!

The two have good chemistry, but I found the story hard to keep up with. And some small video editing choices really bothered me, like certain scenes in slow motion (when it wasn’t necessary). It felt like there were cuts for some reason, and to get the episode to the right length, they used that technique. Obviously, it's a minor detail, and if I’d enjoyed the story more, I’d have ignored it. But it got to a point where I was frustrated with the female lead, the male lead, the assassin, the queen dowager, and the prince—I couldn’t like any of the characters at all.

Glad to see you loved PeiRong! You know if you rewatch it, you pick up on more details you missed the first time.…
I've already added Our Generation to my watchlist, and without a doubt, I'll be there commenting! Hahaha

Title The Princess Royal Spoiler
The main couple had great chemistry and strong performances, but I found the story poorly structured. They realized too early that both had traveled back in time, and their utopian good intentions made the plot feel unrealistic. I'm used to historical dramas with more complex characters, ambition, and moral dualities. The Princess, though strong-willed, only acts for the kingdom's good and Pei Wen Xuan, while smart, exists solely to follow her, which became tiring.

What really made me finish watching was the great performance by Jin Mai and Zhang Ling He. Jin Mai, despite being young, convincingly portrays a woman who’s already lived half her life. Not to mention she acts very well in more intimate scenes with her co-stars, which makes the love feel believable—something that’s quite rare with most actresses, who seem to get scared of the male leads with even the slightest touch.

The cinematography was beautiful, but the story lacked depth for me. I also want to praise the actor who played Su Rong for his excellent work—he might be one of the best-written characters in the story. Overall, it's a good series, one of those where the acting carries the show. Even though I didn't like the plot itself, I would rewatch it because of the performances, and that's why I give it the rating I did.

Don't come for me... but I feel like the princess's storyline with Su Rong is way more interesting than with Pei Wen Xuan... (I'm still on episode 17).
