I finished episode 35, and I realized there's only 5 episodes left before the end of this drama. I feel like this drama went too fast and I wanted more. This is one of those great dramas that needed more than 40 episodes to tell a better story. This was how I felt too when I watched Pursuit of Jade, that 40 episodes were not enough. The story was so good that I didn't get bored watching every episodes. With other dramas currently airing (e.g. Fate Chooses You, Ashes to Crown, Veil of Shadows, etc.), I felt that their stories were dragging along and I was struggling trying to finish each and every episodes. LOL... Anyway, I am tempted to buy the Express 5 episodes, but I will just safe my money and watch 1 episode per day.

I totally agree with you. The Empress Dowager should have the longest and most painful death because all these sufferings and deaths were because of her. She allowed the corrupt and greedy ministers to do what they want - in her name & for her support. The deaths of the bad ministers were too quick and not good enough, when compared to what they did to all the dead innocent victims.

I started watching this drama only on 20 June 2026. Super late. I was bored with most of the new Cdramas after POJ and I was waiting for new episodes of Mo Li. Within the first few episodes, I began to love the drama. I really liked the aesthetic of the show where the actors were not white-washed by any beauty filters. I can see Arthur Chen’s sun tanned skin and skin pores of other actors. The cinematography was wonderful and the acting looked so natural. Even though the scenes were not in HD, I enjoyed the story so far within the first 10 episodes. I hope I can continue watching the series until the 60th episode. LOL 😂😂😂

I am watching Ep. 2, and saw the young imperial grandson is played by the boy from Pursuit of Jade (Yu Bao Er character). I'm happy to see he is getting lots of roles because he is such a good young child actor.

I decided to watch this movie after my recent trip down to the southern coast of South Korea, around Yeosu city and surrounding areas, where I kept stumbling upon these public historical displays of Admiral Yi — his statues, battle markers, memorials, and even a replica of his naval turtle warship vessel. It made me curious enough to finally watch the film.

@Liz Mathew - FSF is fine in this drama. He looks rather authoritative as Di Renjie, and his acting is quite good. i can't say much for his side-kicks though, especially the hyperactive guy - LOL. I binge-watched until episodes 14, and I find the drama to be entertaining.

I know what you mean. I recognise this actor Li Yu quite well because in the C-dramas I've watched, he always play such annoying, obnoxious, over-the-top characters. I assumed he was an extra and he over-acted so that he gets some attention from the audiences. I am surprised that the directors don't blacklist him at all....LOL.

Why did they cut down a 40 episodes to 25 episodes? Will there be a Season 2 since this drama has S1 as part of the title?

FSF in The Legend of Zhuohua was terrible. He looked like a dirty old man trying to date the young and naive FL... LOL. I dropped the drama after a few episodes. I hope he is better here because I really liked him in Story of Minglan

I actually liked this drama than I thought I would. I started it when I had nothing good C-dramas or K-dramas to watch at the time. I went in with no expectations, hoping for a good crime-solving action-thriller drama with 3 main guys (unknown actors to me). In the end, I enjoyed this drama and I was hoping for a Season 2.....LOL

Is Liu Xie Ning the actress who played the bitchy 1st step-sister in The Double? Hmmmm

I believe that No Happy Ending is a standard requirement for most Chinese Dramas....LOL. Maybe they believe that like real life, the Chinese dramas that shows Slice of Life should be realistic - there is no such thing as Happy Ending or Happily Ever After.

Where can I watch this drama with good English subtitles? I like the main actress and I want to see more of her in historical dramas

Oh! I love this drama "Nothing Gold Can Stay". Even though it has so many episodes but the story is so engaging and very interesting. I was never bored. Reminded me of The Story of Ming Lan. This reminds me also that this "The Heir" may be similar to "Nothing Gold Can Stay". I hope this will have a better happy ending.

Tell me about it. I always read lots of comments about the beginning of the drama to be boring or slow or Where is the Romance? or Kisses or Hot Men? I want a proper telling of a good story or background so that we audiences can relate and enjoy the drama properly.

I am glad they lifted the 40 episodes rule because sometimes, a good drama need a bit more than 40 episodes, perhaps another max. 5 more to complete the story or happy ending. For example, Pursuit of Jade would have benefited with an extra 3 - 5 more episodes. LOL

Cannot wait for another Yang Zi drama - I love her in historical - costume dramas.
