built up tension [and emotions] with no fruition — that’s how i summarize the story
this film is beautifully shot and well-acted. the music adds so much value into the cinematic experience. it feels like someone’s sneaking or doing something they shouldn’t and is close to getting caught. it’s captivating and thrilling.
“I only think about what I’ve lost. But you think about what you can gain. I want to try that too.” — Baek Yi Jin to Na Hee Do
Na Hee Do reminds me how optimistic and bold we are when we’re young. She’s a character you’ll easily love and root for. Kim Taeri always understands the assignment. She never disappoints. She’s believable playing a zestful 18 year old passionately reaching her dream.
Another character I find interesting is Taeyang High School’s fencing coach. I‘m sensing her dynamic with NHD will be one of my favorites. She said to Heedo, “Do you think athletes succeed just by being good at their sport? Everyone’s skill is similar. Competitions are about luck and vigor.” I realized it applies to life too. Skill set is not enough. You need luck on your side too. *** The episode is mostly fun. I crack up watching NHD attempt her not-so-brilliant plans to get transferred. NHD getting caught returning the damaged comic book takes the cake. But there’s a scene that got me teary eyed. When NHD and her mom had a confrontation. NHD mentioned how her mom can’t attend her competitions nor comfort her when she loses a match. *** Anyway, moving forward, I’m curious to know more of Baek YiJin’s backstory, how Heedo’s mom and the coach were acquainted, how the relationship of Heedo and her mother will be mended, and who the father of Heedo’s daughter is.
The first episode is promising. I’d be pissed if the story unfolds and wraps up horrendously. I’m praying to heavens this drama only goes uphill from here
