I think the director specifically said it is not a revenge story. For the underserved community and its people, “justice” and “revenge” is really just a fantasy, despite whatever efforts they tried, maybe even with life, it just doesn’t get to them. director purposefully made it so hard for Ilwoo to even touch the gang members because rich and powers always have so many people to shield them.
and it should be very clear it is not the brother’s neglecting his younger brother. He himself is not an adult yet, a 17 years old with no guardians himself, with a huge debt his parents left him, and almost roofless. it is the society’s and adults’ neglection that is to blamed. the social workers are blaming a teenager who can’t legally work yet on failing to provide for both his special need brother and his special need grandma. even full adults (dad and mom) couldn’t handle and gave up on them, yet the older brother stick around to still try his best in providing. We simply can’t ask for people struggling to survive and still have the emotional level support (AND from a kid who himself has never received!)

Honestly, the fact that he has a first billing role with such veteran actor supporting him, and a script that’s very easy to watch and this type of mainstream satisfying story, most of the younger actors already can’t find opportunities like this. when they receive scripts usually it’s only up to 4 episodes. jinyoung in the behinds said he just got ep7-8’s script when he was filming ep4’s content. Also there were a lot of relationships that introduced him to the project (company contact, our unwritten Seoul’s director, and BH his company’s mother company kakao is the one funding this drama). it is hard for him to reject. that’s why the production side released articles saying jinyoung came into the project as a “savior” when two previous actors left the project (not because of the script tho) and they were having a hard time finding a new male lead. minju accepted this role since the beginning.
