Wait... She's not able to learn bicycle? lol!!!!
Mentioning makes the plot-hole worst sometime. Sounds useless or maybe the director wanted some cheese and both of them on same bicycle. No idea.

I love this kind of drama, about deadly games.
There, it's more deadly than Liar Game, but less calculating/psychological.
First situation made me think a bit about Cube.
I like the mystery/supernatural setting that reminds me Gantz.
Directing is somptuous and I wonder how they made the empty Tokyo.
So after episode 1, I'm almost sure this drama will be a favorite.
But now I continue watching.

I'm at ep8.
Turns out it's better than most of dramas airing out last years.
What is not surprising.

Person Kim Soo Hyun Spoiler
It's a big relief that MDL is slowly returning to a drama commenting and discussion site. Having political campaigns…
Thanks to say that. I randomly came here after I saw the thread of the drama I'm watching was polluted by various messages about the actor. What is a total lack of respect for: the purpose of MDL, people talking about the drama, and the whole team of the drama and other actors.

Add to that, even if I don't know exactly the case, at most (if true), it was a corruption of a minor. And it's not the same than pedophilia. And if people use the wrong word, then serious cases like Epstein files make no sens anymore. Plus, it could go in trial for deffamation.

I'm pissed of this herd coming each time there is a celebrity scandal. Anyway there were scandals and there will always be, because it's a world where (I think) most of people have things to hide, or even if they have nothing to hide, anything can be turned into a scandal the day a gossip newspaper want their skin, or maybe darker bussiness practices as a way to get rid of someone (what I suspected about a previous scandal).

I didn't watched a drama last year, and the day I come back here, it's just to fall on this crap.

I like this comment from you.
Yeah, as we read MDL comment sections, we often see:
"Ewwk, I can't bear this FL, she's a read flag.
OR...
No way!! Why the hero choose the psycho-girl, fuk-you writer!!"
Or anything in this kind.

BUT: it's impossible to do a good story while following any audience whims. And, obviously, kdrama writers don't care about that. They just try to do the best story they can. Then take it or leave it. And it's the only way to do a good story. Writer sincerity, hard work and going deeper as possible.

I think writers have to respect audience in many ways: do a story hooking audience, don't be boring, put emotional sincerity, really believe in what you tell and feel it first.
But when audience just want a kind of "fast food drama", then never submit to that. And as irony, if you would give them what they want, they would find it boring!! It's a famous advice to screenwriters: don't give to audience what they want, but what they need.

Then, to bounce back on your comment again: I did that, FL is a dark one...well, you get it quickly right from episode 1, FL is writing a manhwa called "Queen of Darkness", but... protagonist isn't a hero, it's the villain! Then you guess that in W universe, it can lead to totally unexpected consequences, and new crazy plot twists.
Then, I made the character very uneasy to get, and the more you go in the story, the more how complex this character is. One of the best comment I got is from my main reader:
"First I hated her, then I'd like to love her, but she always make me hate her again, then make me love her again. It's so uncomfortable."
And what I like about this comment: it's the exact feeling I wanted to create, and it's damn difficult to do.
About character screenshots, I chose Kim Tae-Hee, from "Jang Ok Jung" drama, one of my favorite, with a gray FL, the kind I wanted.

I just know the drama got a big success, and watching it now.

There are a lot of "in-becoming" talents in this.
First the director (this guy will make later the biggest dramas). Then the writer, already experienced, but on episode 1, I'd say there is a big step with the drama she will do next.
And many actors, like first role of Suzy Bae. Maybe she acts better in next dramas, but in episode 1 here, it feels a bit "too fresh" about acting.

It's a 2011 drama, and we see it about production and camera technology.
I bet the story will be good, even if on episode 1, I find it a bit too fast paced, and using retro-tricks. But this writer never disappoint me about good feeling, or various emotions, like "achievement".

We are loosing mystery probably, because we know first how the supernatural happens (while it's delayed in original drama, Ep3 a bit, with flashback montage of Sung-Moo, then Ep5).
But ok, it could be: for some reason, FL want to torture her main character or kill him. Until she goes to the other world, meets him, etc. Problem is: she created narrative devices now out of control. So, in first steps, she can't reveal the truth to ML, as she feels guilty. She tries to fix her own errors, but no way to succed. Then follow more plot/action.
Anyway I turns it in my mind, it feels weak compared to the original story, and it looks more like a movie script, or maybe a short drama. And it's not the same story, definitely something else. OP could even use it for writing her own story. It could be made by using a novel instead of a manhwa, or any other fiction support like a TV show. It has been done in the movie "Last fiction hero".

W is really a drama I can't see any way to make better. It would be presumptuous, it's genius screenwriting. Yet the writer published her script, with the idea amateurish writers could use it for improving their skill (and I improved greatly by studying it), or change it for better if they can. I could change two or three lines of dialog, and no more. And the very few points that I found problematic in the script, the director himself fixed it by doing the scenes better. So I mostly used it for writing my own story of a season 2, as well as other screenplays (with korean format) not related to W. Just I removed few concepts I found unclear, but to introduce new ones.

The only change I would make in the original drama is in Ep12, about the series of scenes when Kang Chul goes to fight the killer. The way it's done looks like it's a given and everything is easy, while more tension would be welcome. Everything's solved at high speed. I don't think it would need big changes, just put a scene or two in different order, or doing a cut in a scene and ends it later. And mostly (it's not writer fault) remove the bad BGM giving this impression of "an operation without problem". This:

Wrong context, and as bad luck, it's the only average music in a disc with mostly awesome ones.

To bounce on it: to make this idea stands, it would need a really different story, different plot and twists, so I don't think she would continue to try to kill him, and it needs to put apart everything from the actual drama, to make something new. But the question is "what to do with that" ?

I can answer a bit: I had this situation in W season 2, but good thing is it's not the main story, and more a side one. There isn't a lot to do because it can't last long. So, the author regrets, faces his own mistakes, and it doesn't use lot of screentime, it can't. And not exactly twists or anything helping the pace. Plus, as you said, it's the "expected" thing. Then I had to subvert it a bit to make it stands, and not going into a boring "as expected" tone.

I guess W writer got the idea among hundred, and chose to not use it, or rather uses it, but for the heroine's father. So I think we keep anything good in this story about redemption, admit own failure and mistakes. I guess that because I've read an interview about her way of working, and it's a writer working very hard, sometime writing 10 versions of a scene before to choose the best options.

Review W
At episode 9+, the drama isn't exactly slowing down, but rather goes at "normal speed".
It's because the screenwriter did 17 episodes, but for production reason, it needed to be 16.
So, the writer had to change the script of 9 first episodes and do them in 8 episodes.
There wasn't lot of scenes deleted, but anyway, the pace had to be accelerated.
Then, the script of episode 10 is episode 9 on screen, and so on until the ending.

I find Soo-Bong smart enough, but the problem is he's such a coward. So, even in case he could be smart, his cowardise leads him to do something dumb. ^^

I think this needs a japanese remake too
It wasn't a great drama, but as a lover of W, I liked few things here and there. First, it's not socialy acceptable in Malaysia that a woman quits her man. So they made an interesting change: real love Story is Kang Chul + Soo-Hee. Yeon-Joo comes in his world but just as a friend. Also: they gave more friendship and action for Kang Chul right arm Do-Yoon. Episodes I liked the most was when they made lot of change to original story. Else, each time it was sticking to original W, it was mostly a miss because you can't do better.

This drama is pure genius. I think nothing reached this level about meta-context. But it can't be the cup of tea…
Most of kdramas have good structure. And the one of this writer even more. I mean the writer plans in a detailled way the whole outline of the drama. Then it's hyperlinked and there are logical set-up and payoff all over the script. Of course, western shows with multiple seasons can't do that. They just have vague outline and do it over the fly.

To give you an idea, I did that for my W season 2 screenplay. The time of preparation was more than one year. During this time I didn't write the screenplay but just did the structure, outline, logic of concept, events and plot-twists. Of course I still wrote some piece of scenes in draft because it's inevitable.

I think pro-writers do it better than I do because after one or two dramas they know how it is to do that and plan even better. It's a loud mental charge because it needs to keep the whole drama in mind. At one point I almost became mad about that.

W was about free-mind and pre-written fate, so the hero could use his free-will, while the villain did it far less. Villain used it for bad tricks but accepted his statut of villain. However, both hero and villain are subjected to the manhwa rule saying they have a role. So if the hero deviate from the hero role, he starts to vanish, and the villain too. It's how end the drama, Sung-Moo (fusionned with the villain now) choose to use his free-will to help Kang Chul by killing the prosecutor villain. However, as it against the rule, he vanishes. It was a great sacrifice and very moving scene.
