Title Dr. Romantic
This is a medical drama but how much blood or surgery scenes are in this? Asking because someone recommended this…
A lot. of course, live operation, it's fake blood or meat, cut with scalpel.
But when they do it by cam, I wonder if it's stock videos from real operations. 😨
You see inside the body everything, flesh operated in organs. 🤢 🤮

Dont read through the general comments here if you want to be unspoiled. People are posting what happenned in…
It's ok I don't read. And here we can use the spoiler tag.
Some details come back in my mind and I think now you are right, there are some elements of parody. And the shows don't take itself too seriously. Can be the line "are we in a soap opera" or this:
Ep1, when the FL have a car accident and hits another car. It's enough for the story.
BUT, like a gag, a big white truck comes and double the accident. Then leave, as if it was a murder.

I wonder if the other car could have something to do with the story. Maybe someone else going back in time? And is the white truck here to commit a murder, or is it just an accident?

Hi Monmor. Yeah, we are vampirizing this zone of MDL. lol!I didn't notice the parody aspect yet. Or it's not so…
It's difficult because I watched only 2 episodes. By the way, don't give me any spoiler. ;-)

We can feel the lower production budget about cinematography.
Really not a drama with, let's say, castaway Diva visual flamboyance.
And about actors, they are mostly unknow for weekly dramas.
Veterans in this are used to play support roles (everywhere, weekly or daily drama).
So I guess it's not a big budget. BUT, they have a good writer. (except the weird beginning, but even AAA dramas have sometimes a bad expo).

This sounds like a makjang with a "what if". What if instead to be a victim, the heroin anticipate villain steps? What if she punish them for something they didn't commit yet (so they understand nothing about what's going on and why she does that). It's also a way to shows they aren't bad only because what they do, but just because what they are. By the way, I remember a strong dialog line from the mother to the FL. She litteraly says somethine like that: I hate you for what you are, just because you exist. So, mother hope to pervert her over time.

More weird, mother can't stand candor and goodness without motive. Then I wouldn't surprised if mother ends to love the FL more than her own daughter.
But see also the other part, the FL considers all her life was a lie, and she was just selfish by being so good. Because this goodness was just a weapon to be adopted, or getting something from others. It's really twisted.
There are surprising reaction. I remember vaguely when they are on a dinner in a park at night (maybe ep3 I started). The ML is agree about FL decision when it's something selfish.

I have posted over on BOD before I read this. Monmor here. I was asking myself if it is possible to parody a 2000s…
Hi Monmor. Yeah, we are vampirizing this zone of MDL. lol!
I didn't notice the parody aspect yet. Or it's not so clear than Kim Soon Ok's dramas.
Or maybe it's more a subversion?
The heroine is the classic victim of makjang, taking revenge later.
But the high-concept make she takes revenge before!! Before to be hurt! What create a real mess for the antagonists and anticipate/change the classic storylines. Just the mariage proposal is something, on a episode 2 !!

Jung ji oh is a man of pride and actually very insecure inside. While he loved jun young to death, once they back…
Yes, it helps a lot, thanks!!
I guessed it was some inner motive, irrational. Even without explanation, I could feel it was reliable and accepted the situation. I think it was a great twist in the middle of the drama.

I was sometimes lost in the drama, slow or without seeing a plot. It was more a slice of life.
Now I remember, there was a lot of others good characters. An assistant was so annoying, and I couldn't understand why this dude wasn't fired, but the situation was funny. Also the other couple, the man tries to reconcile after many years, a frustrating situation. And this other director too was annoying. Lot of conflicts.
I used photos of these people for extras characters in my own drama screenplay.

I like dramas showing how are made dramas. And this one took real situations of this era, like: the episode is airing and the producer is waiting someone bring the record of the end of the episode.
It's probably a drama I could rewatch and enjoy better now. It was one of the first drama I watched, and I couldn't get the best of it at this time.

About script structure: until now (to confirm further episodes), the Island part is used as a thematic each episode. We get a flashback from a specific moment on the island. And the meaning or metaphor will make sens with what happen in the episode.
We got:
Ep3 - the cooler with the ramen (don't eat alone, loneliness in big city same as in island)
Ep4 - horse chestnuts that make you sick (toxic person)

That seen has so many Cinderella vibes hasn't it? The talented step daughter being hidden by wicked Step Mum etc…
A scene is striking in episode 1, and right out from a fairy tale.
When adoptive mother bends over the FL in the hospital room. Dressed in black.
She's like the evil queen in Sleeping beauty, an archetype of the evil mother.
This scene feels like a fairy tale with the queen villain...
... and FL beauty about to meet her last sleep. Death.

Hi there! Kate here. So enjoyed your thoughts on this and glad you are enjoying the story telling despite the…
Hi Kate, your message is a ray of sun here.

Yeah, you had feel what I could resume here. But luckily, the drama stand out dispite that. It was just a short hard time to overcome.

I'm picky about screenplay mistakes, but very forgiving about characters choices and attitudes, because anyway, human soul is irrational. And as you pointed it: the sudden change of the FL is disturbing, but soon we discover she navigates between her new and old soul.

Like you I noticed that too: because the writer makes her mind change for a 180° when she comes back: the first scene when she rejects her "ex-future-ex-husband" comes fast and powerful. So, the writer choice is credibility Vs dramatic hook. Choosing dramatic hook, probably the best choice, it put us deeper into the fun, and you explain it very well. That why I said I'm not picky about this and prefer to see what happens with that. ;-)

It's a bit off topic, so I'll put in spoiler tag.
Other than Hye Ryun, mine are:
- Song Jae Jung : W, Memories of the Alhambra.
- Jang Young Chul +Jung Kyung Soon : Empress Ki, Incarnation of money, Giant.
- Kim Soon Ok : The Penthouse, The last empress.
- Kim Young Hyun + Park Sang Yeon : Six flying dragons, Queen Seon Deok.
--------------
- Park Ji Eun: I like but not in my top list. My Love from the star is my fav!! I need to watch more from her.
- Kim Eun Sook: long list, but she made various style. I didn't like recent dramas, too slow. I liked older dramas from her. On-Air, certainly the best dramas about drama production.
- Kang Eun Kyung: bad luck make I watched nothing, except (I realize now) Bread, Love and Dreams (king of baking) that was an awesome drama. I remember a scene when she make people cry because someone is making bread. No. Crazy. I was about to say more, but I checked and you didn't watched this one. So. shht no spoiler. Sure I'll watch more of her now, and try Dr Romantic.

I have a short list of favorite screenwriters. It's possible when they have an enough long list of dramas. Now I know their style. Maybe additional writers could enter, but it's hard to be sure when they have only one or two dramas, even excellent ones. Else some others writers with a long list but I watched only few, so I need to check more if they hit most of the time.

If Bo Geol is Ki Ho, I still can't get over how he is treating Mok Ha. I have no idea how they'll successfully…
I don't know how dangerous is Ki Ho's dad and what he want to do here.
Anyway, the director show him like a typical psycho-killer in the chase scene:
Mok Ha runs, but he just walk!! Cliché way to say: dudes like Halloween or Jason.
Then he can still catch up with her (thanks she clumsy falls).

Woo Hak flash memories: not necessarily Ki Ho's ones.
- Maybe the two brothers where here this day.
- Or he watched that on a cam record of Ki Ho.

Only sure thing now. Ki Ho is Bo Geol or Woo Hak or is dead. For proof the scene in the diner hall, when WH says to BG he got flowers and a card from Ki Ho.
And sure too, Bo Geol knows who is Ki Ho.

Hey, we are on the same page about this writer.
Start-up had big success, but me too, I prefer her previous dramas.
I'm not sure why, probably because they are more dramatic?
I feel better on track with episode 1 of Castaway Diva too.

Start-up is fine writing. It's a story of serial type (to be continued) but the writer manage to create a thematic per episode, related to start-up compagnies. Brillant.

While You Were Sleeping is power writing. There is more dramatism, situation of life or death. And also a fantastic high-concept. I prefer this drama. Even more, warm and tender scenes are intense, and I prefer also the OST.
Episode 1 (first hour) of WYWS hits hard. One of the best Ep1 I know.

Park Hye Ryun is a best among the best screenwriter, yes. She has an unique style and regular thematics, about healing, tenderness, growing, achieve dreams. Often she makes people cry with something positive rather than negative (like a character death). She always find a way to move you deeply, and I can't really put her dramas in the romcom category.

"I hear your voice" should go in your list. Also one of the best Ep1 ever.
As well as "Pinnochio" and "Page turner".

Never come here the day after episodes are released if you didn't watch them.

Memory flashes aren't subjective view. Weird, isn't it?
Ep1, 12:40. Cam recorder on.

What if, somehow, Woo Hak watched that on record, before amnesia.

I don't know how to say that:
I'm ok it doesn't make sens. But now it doesn't make sens too much.
It's all over the place and I have difficulty to stick to a storyline.
My favorite episode was episode 2. Focused, intense, a hellish pace.
