Duly noted. Got it mixed up. Sister in law is LBY mother, Father is Lady Huo's brother (General Huo) Step Mother is distant cousin to Lady Huo. Hard to keep it straight. Pardon. ♥

Totally, totally agree with your take on FL. This drama is very in depth. In fact some of the people watching…
It's up there with Nirvana in Fire 2015, Evernight 2018 (Wuxia), Sound of the Desert 2014. < historical, in depth character plot. Joy of Life, Sword Snow Stride more recently but they aren't as complex as this script.

I've watch drama of this genre that span from the early 2000's to now. Not all of them as they aren't available with subs. There have been a few that have caught my attention. Totally, totally agree with your take on FL. This drama is very in depth. In fact some of the people watching it may be over their heads. This is the best drama to come out in years from China. I've watched hundreds of them. I'm at the point now I will only pick the best and leave all fluffy ones aside, ♥

LOL it's hard keeping it straight. His real mother is not her sister but sister inlaw. What family did she belong to? Thank you for the correction. ♥

His mother (the crazy woman) is actually his real mother's sister. In other words his aunt. So the woman that is married to his (father) (His real father is dead) is a distant cousin. Complicated I know. LBY is the son of General Huo who died when Gu city fell. Both his real parents are dead. The aunt disguised him as her own son as her son died in the attack.

rewatching ep 23 randomly: when CSS an her father went to the Vampire's lair ( LBY) to thank him. They were so…
At the beginning of that scene I loved "the cold wind blowing" as they're standing outside contemplating their entrance into the "fortress". hahahaha ♥

Yes, I rewatch Episode 1 for LBY's entrance. Certainly one of the best I've seen across most recent historical…
I love the scene meeting Mom and Dad. How Drama Grandma and FL are vying for parents attention. ♥

I just rewatched the first 5 episodes.♥
How can anyone say it's boring? First intro to FL is with her mouth full of food and being annoyed. Over bearing maid. The frail hand out the carriage window. To catch a traitor. To meet your parents. All the histrionics between Drama grandma and FL vying for parents attention. LBY praising her for turning in uncle. Learning the mind sets of all the characters and what happened to create all the scenes. I found them amusing, tragic, sad and over bearing at some points. No not boring. ♥

On Oh! My Emperor Season 2 Aug 5, 2022
Loved this series, It was a nice break from the heavy kowtow and rules from the historical dramas. There were some very hilarious scenes. I still am chuckling about them. The maid quarter scene and the game night with the emperor come to mind. Laughing out loud is good right? The acting was very good and the timing and sense of the series was very good. Present meets past with a refreshing take on palace life. Love story with a twist. "Your not allowed to say another mans name." ♥

I noticed they set up some future scenes. So if a scene felt incomplete we will find out in a later episode or scene. I think they have set up for revenge. They all lovey dovey at the party so all the antagonist will be activated. And they were... ♥

SPOIL: I just saw the trailer for episode 42 or 15 of part 2 and it's clear that LBY and CSS had no problem before…
LBY broke it off and regretted it. CSS wanted to follow him but he wouldn't have it. After the 5yrs LBY has not returned. The Empress is dying and wants to see CSS get married. Of course YS is in there like a dirty shirt and puts himself forward. CSS agrees to appease the Empress. The engagement only lasts for about a month. However, LBY returns and fights to get her back. How sweet.♥

Episodes are still not flowing smoothly, scenes are kinda jumpy, don't know if that is on purpose. It felt like…
What do you mean jumpy? They are following each character and the only time they might jump around is with flash backs. I find they fill in the blanks quite well as they go along. I've seen some show that you are left with questions after the show has ended. This one fills in the history. The only time is when they are setting up for a scene that is going to happen but hasn't happened yet. But it will. ♥

On a side note, I love how ep 35 represented Wang ling liberation episode from her toxic mother. I believe one…
Yes lots of growth there. This show is all about parenting and how it affects each young person. All of the children, princes and princesses alike each one has their own problems stemming from the behavior of their parents. Good or bad. ♥

thanks for all the reco guys!!! It's just that LLTG set the bar too high for me that I find other dramas depressing…
Me too. I dumped quite a few (not going to bother with them) after seeing such a golden production. The bar is set high. No more crazy trope, fluff any longer. ♥
