Oh, I totally missed that, geez, SDM's character really got worse every episode after 8th. Why do writers keep tanking the FL's to make the ML's look better. They can learn A LOT from western shows.
Women can stand alone without being made to look so desperate for a man...
I agree with you. I would never understand how she forgave SDS so quickly and how she never confronted any of…
After the lie, the person she dislikes the most, appears to be HJP. She even drops him as a mentor during the three year time skip. I mean come on, even if SDM is a CEO, there are still many things she can learn from HJP. Plus HJP tells SDM how she comforted him while he was young, and SDM is just stone faced. I'm like, WOW! SDM is quite cold hearted.
Cloud 9/honeymoon phase or not, their relationship iver not realistic, even by Kdrama standard. I have an easier time believing Lee Gon and Tae Eul falling in love than SDM and NDS loveline.
I also hypnotize they will break up. The fact that after pining for 3 years for NDS, SDM can't give one reason why she likes him is a huge red flag, which NDS is too blind to see. In my mind SDM is a gold digger that is marrying NDS because he is a genius and wealthy. Plus shallow because NDS is suppose to be handsome?
It's what annoys me the most, that a respectable character like SDM, becomes just another accessory to make NDS fulfil his potential, while SDM doesn't fulfill her own potential, because we all know the company is only a success because of him, and not her.
Not to mention the violence bit, not once, but twice, is such a red-flag for me. DM had seen witnessed it once…
She starts of the story as the "Woman" of the house. She shows a lot of agency, she shows moxie, she is seen as the Grandmother's sole caregiver, a role she relishes. She starts of an independent woman, someone to be admired.
Midway through the story, she somehow loses all of this earlier characterization, to be replaced by someone who can't wait to pawn of her ailing grandmother, who pretty much raised her for the last 15 years, off to a mother, who she has blamed for the past 15 years.
The fact that NDS violent outburst has been explained by immaturity and insecurity by some NDS fans, makes me worried of women who actually believe this. So a man shows violence, or is prone to fist fighting, and the woman naively believes, it will never happen to me. "This man is only aggressive to people he dislikes, to people he likes he is gentle as a cotton ball." FYI, this is like the beginning of many toxic relationships, where women ignore red flags and pursue the relationship, which normally will end in divorce, or worst an abusive relationship. SDM constantly being less independent to give the man in her life, NDS, more agency, is really quite tragic. As women who do this, eventually lose their identity, and become just another accessory for the man to shine more, losing any lustre, she may have gained in her lifetime.
What i've noticed is that after the three year time skip, everyone basically kow-tows to the ML. As if NDS suddenly becomes a god or a king. Think about it. WIJ, SDM, HJP, Yong San, Cheul San, and NDS parents, all basically, at different points after the time skip, beg, kow-tows, lowers themselves, and lauds NDS as a godly savior. The only person I've seen given this much praise is Lee Gon from TKEM, and he is at least a King.
After the time skip, NDS never treats his parents better, and as much as his parents supported him up until the end, not even a photo of NDS and his parents in that photo montage in the end. Such bad portrayal of familial ties.
I used to think that NDS had the lowest self esteem in the show. Then I realize it's actually SDM.
I placed myself in her shoes. And with all the things NDS has done to her, they don't even have one lover's quarrel, just some noble idiocy for the most part. And this really puts SDM in a weak female position, where she always tries to placate the man in her life, and never fights for her rights as a woman.
Regardless of how in love people are, if a big issue comes up, a fight will occur. In real life these issues include things as small as leaving clothes on the floor, to big issues such as money problems. In Start Up, the main issues that would have caused a lover's quarrel, shouting match, or even a simple slap in the face are the following:
1. NDS lying about the truth.
2. NDS insecurity with HJP being the sole reason that 2STO got tricked. And it's not clear if SDM ever finds out this truth.
People have fought for less issues, and the fact that SDM and NDS don't even fight over these two large issues makes their whole relationship so unrealistic. It's really made her portrayal as a competent CEO even more unrealistic, as a proper CEO, won't allow these issues to be so one sided in the guy's favor. It's so unrealistic how NDS and SDM don't even have a proper fight, instead, she wallows in despair on how she could be tricked, and never blames the guy, a troubling message for woman of all ages.
As a woman, I'm ashamed that the writer wrote a character such as SDM, who basically sees NDS as blameless, and innocent, and just places all the blame on her shoulders because of how she pushed him to be rich in Silicon Valley. SDM is an extremely weak FL, who does woman in 2020 a disservice. If a guy is wrong, call him out on it, don't blame yourself, have more pride as a woman!
Trash the romance-bit in this, or dial it down a notch (maybe TEN notches..). Fulfill character growth arcs and…
One of my biggest beef. If your going to make an adaptation of a well known play, you can change the journey, but at least keep the foundation the same.
By essentially kicking Cyrano to the curb, don't call it a Cyrano adaptation, as you insult the source material. Even "Sierra Burgess Is a Loser" kept the ending consistent.

LOL, this sounds interesting to follow the off screen drama. Pretty crazy!
Apparently the writer, is known for her messy dramas, but keep writing dramas since her shows are rating successes. Kind of sad. I guess this proves there is no such thing as bad press.
Makes me think that PHR intentionally wrote such a bad plot to create buzz, and thus viewer ratings. Unfortunately, she got the buzz, but none of the viewership ratings locally.
It's been a month from that disappointing ending, people are moving one :))
I agree with this. I loved the ep. 1 backstory of HJP, and his constant selfless ness. All of this this was wasted to essentially make HJP a babysitter for NDS and SDM is just so disappointing.
I'm still not liking the direction Dany has in GOT. Hopefully the author can at least develop that properly. I've been invested in her story since book 1.

When I get some more time for myself, i'll definitely binged those two shows.
I'm on western shows ATM.

But of course, we all know Start Ups, and business in general is not this easy.
