While I can understand most of your points, I still feel strongly that Youzhen is evil. Killing a rabbit out of jealousy? That’s unhinged and downright cruel. She cray cray and evil imo 😂

I'm not sure if I will ever like or sympathize with her or Liu Chang, even if writers give them "character development" or a heartbreaking past to explain their behaviours...

After finishing episode 6, I have to admit this drama still hasn’t hooked me 🥲 While the production quality and acting are undeniably phenomenal, the storylines feel overly familiar. So I was a bit surprised that viewers praised the storyline, because nothing new has stood out so far for me...

- A smart FL with an exceptional talent for business and numbers
- Greedy, shameless and murderous in-laws
- An cowardly and abusive husband
- The evil mistress trope
- The FL’s mother dying of sickness
- An evil, manipulative stepmother
- A cowardly, easily manipulated father
- A powerful ML occasionally stepping in to rescue the FL (tho I do appreciate that ML is not that much of a stereotype so far, he's rather indifferent, doesn’t pity her as much and isn't overly noisy)
- Tons of evil people
- Endless suffering and misfortune for the FL, one blow after another—she really can’t catch a break...

The list of clichés could go on. I was genuinely excited about this drama, especially with such a brilliant cast and a director whose previous works I’ve loved. That’s why it’s disappointing that it hasn’t resonated with me yet.

I’ll keep watching, but honestly, I feel like I’ve gotten so negative about it that I might need to take a break and return when more episodes are out 😅

Please don’t jump on me for this—I know many people enjoy this drama, but this is just my opinion after six episodes.

I’ve watched up to episode 6 and still feel the same. I appreciate flawed characters as well, but if you're labeling an abusive, potentially predatory person as simply “flawed” or “complex,” then we clearly have very different definitions of what separates a “flawed” character from a villain.

I’m only on episode 3 and the Liu family is absolutely disgusting. This drama has so many unlikeable characters. I didn’t expect to even hate Miles Wei’s character... Honestly, I wasn’t prepared for a drama where 90% of the characters are so unlikable. Not sure if I want to keep going lol

I find it hard to stick with dramas where I only like the leads, but the supporting characters are all annoying, shameless or downright ruthless—yet they still get so much screen time. I know it’s too early to judge, but so far, I’m just not feeling it.

It’s not even the abundance of antagonists that bothers me, but CDramas often fail to give them meaningful redemption arcs. Instead, they try to force us to empathize with them through clumsy storylines and that approach rarely works for me.

But Yang Zi's acting in ep. 3 was impeccable and fabulous! Well, I guess, I will keep on going. Maybe after her divorce I will have less hateful characters on screen 😂

Xiang Liu will always be the most iconic and selfless character in this drama ❤️ I would love to watch a drama solely with his past.

It's fascinating how one character received so much love that viewers still come back here every few months to mention him :D

Maybe I'm weird for noticing, but Yang Zi looked prettier in her previous dramas... I'm sure it's the eyebrow shape. Were these kind of eyebrows common in Tang Dynasty or are the make-up artists at fault? 😂 She looked so beautiful in LYF... her eyebrows look a bit weird here.

Makes sense, but it kinda tainted his character for me. He was always honest, but he lied straight into Xue Chen's face. He’s starting to slip into the delusional, jealous 2ML cliché, which is such a shame because his charm and honesty were what made him stand out.

I get that there needed to be a conflict between the leads, but I was hoping it wouldn’t come at the expense of Xu Yue’s character.

Well, let's see where this is going...

I just started this drama and I’m only 15 minutes into ep. 1, but I’m already annoyed by her greedy and shameless in-laws. Which episode is she getting the divorce? 😂 I think I can't handle too many annoying characters in the beginning of a drama... If she's not divorced yet in the first 5 eps, I might start this drama later 😅

I've binge-watched the rest of the episodes up to ep. 16 and still really love it! ❤️ I got through the episodes so quickly that now I'm suffering the agony of waiting for new ones every day 😭 I didn't expect to enjoy this drama as much as I do, so I thought I'd built up a decent backlog before starting. Clearly, I was wrong... should've waited longer to start haha

That said, I feel like the show is slowly starting to introduce unnecessary cliché misunderstandings. For instance, Xu Yue and Xue Chen have always been so honest and cooperative with each other especially regarding Mu Xuan Ling. But now, Xu Yue didn't tell Xue Chen about the Disillusion Water that made Xuanling forget her emotions.

Why leave Xue Chen in the dark? This feels like a forced conflict and it’s frustrating to see the characters acting out of character just to create drama. One of the things I loved the most was how open and truthful Xue Chen and Xu Yue were with each other, so this really irks me. Things will happen which could've been prevented...

Even if Xue Yue knows what fate awaits Xue Chen and Xuan Ling... it makes no sense that he's keeping his knowledge about the Disillusion water. Or are they making Xu Yue a villain? I would hate that so much >_< He's such a unique 2nd lead... I don't want to turn him into cliché 2ML ...

Is there a reasonable explanation for why Nan Xu Yue wouldn’t tell him? Or is this just the writers forcing a plot device? 🤔

Started this drama and watched the first 9 episodes... and I LOVE IT! My gosh, this is so good! How is the rating so low?
I don't even like Xianxia genre that much and enjoyed maybe 2-3 Xianxias, that I've watched in the past. This one is really good! And I ADORE the FL! She's so spunky and charming!
There are so many interesting characters in this one!

Not sure how this drama will develop, but so far I really, really like it and it's the drama that I look forward to the most right now ❤️

Too modern? That makes no sense at all... There are so many actors/actress with quite visible PS who star in historical drama, which looks "modern" to me. Well, I don't need to understand east-asian weird appearance standards lol

I like this drama for being odd and having a unique plot. I know a few nerdy people around me, who are just as passionate about things, which may sometimes seem weird to us "non-science" people, but it's actually so lovely to see their eyes sparkle when they talk about it. So I didn't find it weird at all, when Eve was gushing over fruit flies mating. I found it as charming as Gong Ryong actually haha 😂

I guess having none to little expectations going into this, really helped me to enjoy this drama much more than most viewers did. I started this mainly because of Gong Hyo Jin. I've loved a lot of her previous dramas and felt she has a keen eye for unique scripts and quirky characters. So I'm gonna lay my trust on her.

I understand that this might not be everyone's cup of tea, but coming back here every few hours to comment how much you dislike it, is much weirder than the drama itself.

It's been so long that I've forgotten about this drama. Really sad, that the subs still suck after all these years. I would've picked it up and even rewatched S1 if they had better subs now.
I think I've never watched S2 because of that... :'(
