Liang Dai Wen's father is actually such a thoughtful and well-spoken character. Honestly, the reconciliation took far too long, in my opinion—but at least they finally shared some truly heartwarming moments in the end. I especially loved how Dai Wen brought Gu Yi to his family after her mom passed away. It was exactly what she needed: a change of environment and people who could genuinely understand her pain. Having shared similar experiences of loss, they were able to support and confide in one another in such a meaningful way.
The family dinner scene in ep. 30 was a standout moment for me. It carried a powerful message for both the characters and us as viewers. Death and loss of loved ones is terrifying, yet it’s the most natural part of life for all of us. I feel like this drama handled such a heavy topic with incredible depth and grace.
The tears I shed during ep. 30 could fill an entire year… It was absolutely heart-wrenching, yet somehow still so beautifully touching and heartwarming.
This drama had it flaws, but it was better than a lot of dramas I've watched this year. And I've watched a lot :D It was consistent and the pace was never off. It had wonderful emotional scenes, wholesome conversations and the acting was great. I really liked the lead couple, even tho their push-and-pull in the middle was a lil bit of a drag. But as I binge-watched those episodes, it didn't feel too long for me.
I agree with most, that the "stand-up" comedy was not really funny and even cringe sometimes. tbh I skipped through a lot of those. But I guess they make more sense and are funny, if you understand the language and therefore nuance of it. Also the workplace scenes were not my cup of tea. I feel if they made this drama shorter and the focus only on the leads, this would be a solid 9 for me.
Additionally the cinematography was phenomenal! It was beautiful and I loved it!
The current rating is not justified for me at all. This drama should be no less of 8 in MDL standards. But well, this is my opinion, but I'm sure a lot of viewers do agree with me.
Just started this.... Am I the only one who thinks the subs sucks? At least on kisskh. How are y'all watching it? I doubt we'll get better subs in the future, no? :(
Just finished first two episodes... Not really sold. Bit boring and overacting was way too much. Not my kind of humour. FL acting was way over the top sometimes and unnatural and almost every side character felt like a caricature. Does the overacting tone down in future episodes?
But I did like the leads' scenes. And ML special ability is interesting and unique.
So I'm gonna continue nonetheless because Lee Jong Won is beautiful and his eyes are mesmerizing 😂 I wish he'd pick better scripts. He's too good of an actor for mediocre dramas. The only good drama he starred as a lead was "Knight Flower". Same for Kim Se Jeong. She deserves better scripts too.
Well, enough complaining. I'm watching further now haha :D
Sadly, we'll never know. It was never explained. Big plot hole for me as well...
Well, yeah, but that feels very far-fetched and isn’t something viewers should have to "piece together" on their own. It’s a critical arc that was completely sidelined and handled in a lackluster way.
We never saw Zhao Ruo Shi going through that thought process or arriving to this conclusion logically. Why would he even think that the child in the past was his father’s son? Even after seeing that he loved a demon. It could have been anyone. How did he know his father had a child with that demon? Even his father "forgot" about loving a demon and having a child with her. And why would Zhao Ruo Shi assume it’s Ziqi, of all people? Solely because of the hairband? That’s such a massive leap. Plus, how old was Zhao Ruo Shi back then—six or seven? And we’re supposed to believe he remembers all this? Sorry, but the logic is completely off.
And what about Ziqi? How did he suddenly realize Zhao Ruo Shi's father was his own? There was no reaction from him when they were in the illusion of the Dowager's past. He acted like it had nothing to do with him. But in that scene with Zhao Ruo Shi, he suddenly knows the truth?
I loved this drama, but it’s undeniable that some crucial arcs weren’t explained well—or at all. Take the bracelet, for example. It was repeatedly shown throughout the drama, even up to the ending, but none of the leads ever discussed its significance or powers. It was just brushed aside without proper resolution.
ZYC is still a demon so the ending it's one human, one demon, and one goddess avatar that survive.
True, but he was a human first, so I didn't count him 😂 His life was still tragic af. Losing his father, big bro, "lil bro" and the guilt of killing his best friend...
My gosh... this was so absolutely heartbreaking. I shouldn’t have watched this right before bed—now I’ll be crying myself to sleep 😭💔
Wow, the acting in those final episodes was phenomenal! Every single actor delivered. The ending was devastating, yet so beautifully done. What an unforgettable journey this series has been.
I already expected a sad ending with nearly everyone meeting their demise, but nonetheless I'm still heartbroken. But I think some deaths were really unnecessary...
Also they really spared no demon, huh? Every one of them had such a tragic fate. It’s so sad because none of them were inherently evil, it was humanity’s cruelty that pushed them to the brink.
Honestly, Zhao Yuan Zhou reminded me a lot of Tan Tai Jin from TTEOTM. Both sacrificed themselves for humankind, even though humankind didn’t deserve their selflessness. At least here the humans know that the "evil demon" sacrificed himself to save them.
Now, how do I recover from this and get some sleep? >_>
Genuine question... what was the grand idea for giving 2nd couple two kiss scenes and our lovely main couple none? I mean... why? Why would you do that, writer?
I just finished binge-watching the last seven episodes and overall, I really enjoyed this drama. The main story, cast, humor and characters were fantastic!
That said, it’s another drama that suffered from a noticeable drop in quality in the second half. I’d rate episodes 1–20 a solid 10/10, but the rest barely a 7/10. While I liked the ending and its message, it still felt unsatisfying. Couldn’t they have given us a proper reunion in the real world? It felt like the writers just said, "We’re done here — imagine the rest yourself."
Starting with episode 21, the writing became messy and lackluster. It was frustrating how some interesting story arcs were either ignored or barely touched upon, while dull and unimportant subplots were given way too much screen time. I don’t understand why so many C-dramas spend so much time on boring stuff instead of focusing on the main story. They could’ve devoted more time to the main couple and their journey and maybe also more time in the real world.
Speaking of romance, the main couple had incredible chemistry and tension early on, but it all fizzled out after their semi-confession and sudden engagement. I don’t need kiss scenes to feel the romance, but there was zero progression in their relationship during the later episodes. Despite being engaged, their interactions felt no different than when they were just friends.
Meanwhile, the second couple got all the romantic milestones—kiss scenes, marriage and so on. Don’t get me wrong, I like Yao and Li Fuyi as individual characters, but as a couple, they were painfully boring.
In the end, the drama set high expectations with its first half but failed to meet them in the latter half. I still liked it overall, but it could’ve been so much better.
On a positive note, I loved Ziqi as a character. The actor nailed every expression and nuance! Esther also did an amazing job—I really enjoyed her performance. 😊
