After reading some helpful comments (thank you so much!), I feel like I have a better grasp of the past now. I really hope the drama explains it clearly as well.
It’s quite an ironic and hypocritical cycle, though. If I understood correctly: 10,000 years ago, the Divine Clan (immortals) oppressed humans, leading to a rebellion spearheaded by human Emperor Zhao Ming.
Fast forward to the present: Humans are doing the EXACT same thing to the Spirit Clan, oppressing and enslaving them.
It really highlights how humanity often fails to learn from history. It’s a harsh reflection of real life, honestly. There are no good or bad guys—just two opposing sides, much like in reality.
Especially the uraveled secret in the Devine realm by the Pavillion master(He Xian Wo), I'm still processing those…
Yes, it's way too much for just 40 episodes. I'm scared the last 10 episodes will be really rushed and not as good as the 1st half :'( I'm already feeling that they cramped too much in two episodes... oh man 😭
So... Zhao Ming was evil? I really didn't understand what happened between Divine Clan and Emperor Zhao Ming in the past.
Did the Divine Clan enslave humans just like the humans did it to Spirit Clan? Or why did he hate Divine Clan so much and wanted to destroy them? I don't understand his motive... Or did Zhao Ming just want to kill all Immortals, so everyone is "equal"? But Hun Du Zhu was an immortal too, right? And he loved her, right? Or she wasn't... she is the Chaos pearl.
Also I don't understand He Xian Wo's motive for sacrificing so many living beings to stay young for sooo long , just to climb up the celestial ladder... because he was a fanatic? lol Zhao Ming was his hero and he saw him get killed by divine clan. So he made it his mission to kill the Immortals? That's why he wanted to go to the heaven realm? To kill them?
I think I understood nothing of the past and I'm confused as hell. Please someone explain to me what happened the last two episodes lol
The death of the Fu Lan Sheng's parents was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time! 😭 Them dying hand in hand on the bed reminded me of the old couple in the Titanic movie, when the ship sank...
They were such a delightful couple! I would watch a drama just with their story. Actually I would watch a drama of all the tragic couples so far. Please let our mains not have a tragic ending... :')
This drama is so unpredictable and keeps me on the edge of my seat! :D The synopsis barely hints at the depth of the story, so as you watch, everything feels like part of a much bigger picture. It’s such a thrill and it actually still feels like we’ve only scratched the surface of what’s to come!
24 episodes straight without a single dull moment! It’s been a while since I’ve felt this excited about a drama. Even though Xianxia isn’t usually my go-to genre, I always give them a shot because every now and then, a gem like this comes along. That’s exactly why I keep exploring. You never know when a story will surprise you!
If the drama maintains this level of quality, it’s bound to become one of my favorite Xianxia dramas, right up there with Legend of Shen Li.
Also I already liked Sun Zhen Ni in TTEOTM, but her performance here has truly won me over. She might just become one of my favorite Chinese actresses and Mu Xuan Ling one of my all-time favorite female leads! 😊
No cause I was like damn why is he acting like that lol. I liked it though, was entertaining
It definitely made me laugh 😂 Especially because Mu Xuan Ling isn’t easily startled, so her puzzled expressions made it even funnier—like, "Alright, bro... calm down 👀 "
I don’t think Ep. 22 was a filler at all :D It was a brilliant way to weave in glimpses of past events while setting up some subtle foreshadowing for what’s to come. The writing was pretty clever and provided us with some context for the plot development.
Also, is it just me or did those 6,000 years as a shadow make Qian Guang Jun a little unhinged? His antics were so eccentric lol Mu Xuan Ling’s perplexed reactions to his behavior were funny! XD
If this drama gets a bad or sad ending, I will just pretend that ep. 22, minute 42:00 is the ending lol That would be the perfect ending. Them walking hand in hand out of the forest and him indirectly proposing to her with that String Bonding effect haha
Ya'll just love commenting on physical appearance when you probably look like a cow irl
I've noticed the eyebrows as well and it was distracting at first. It doesn't have anything to do with an appearance attack.
And as I learned that they styled it that way because it's how they wore it in Tang Dynasty, I've gotten used to it. You could've just answered that it's styled that way on purpose. There is really no need to get so offensive over it.
Just finished ep. 21 and I’m STILL OBSESSED! 😍 How the tables have turned—now he’s the one doing the seducing and courting and I’m absolutely loving it! 😂❤️
I’m honestly so impressed that this drama has kept me fully engaged even halfway through and I haven’t skipped a single scene! That’s such a rare feat for me with dramas lately! 👏🎉
This drama has become my favorite among all the ones I'm currently watching. It wasn’t even on my radar and honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of Vin Zhang. I hadn’t enjoyed any of his previous dramas that I’d seen, so I initially thought I’d skip this one. But on a whim, I decided to give it a try and I’m so glad I did!
It’s funny because I was much more excited about other dramas, but none of them have managed to hook me yet. It just goes to show that a popular cast and director don’t guarantee anything. At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal taste! 😄
Its the execution of the cliched plots. It may be the same but is it well done?I've read thousands of books. There…
Thanks for your detailed comment on my thoughts! It was a pleasure to read and I appreciate the time you took to share your perspective 😊
I completely agree with you about the production quality and the attention to detail. It’s something I noticed and liked as well!
Regarding the clichés, I totally get where you're coming from. When they’re done well, they can be charming and enjoyable. But weirdly I couldn't enjoy them here. The first six episodes leaned a bit too heavily on familiar tropes, which dulled the excitement for me. Also the flood of unlikable characters early on made it so hard for me to get invested.
That said, it’s not that I didn’t enjoy the episodes at all, I just didn’t feel the same overwhelming excitement as some other viewers who are praising the storyline.
I’ll definitely keep your perspective in mind as I continue watching. Perhaps the beginning was heavy on stereotypes, but the real test will be how the story unfolds from here 😊
Don’t worry, all comments are respected and should be welcomed. Your points are valid. I guess what grab me…
Thanks for your kind words about my comment! Hopefully, I'll have a change of heart watching the next episodes 😄
I really wish I could understand Mandarin as well. I’m sure there’s so much nuance and depth that gets lost in translation! I'm trying to avoid to watch with Mango Subs, so I couldn't watch ep.7 yet 😅
Everyone's opinion is appreciated as long as you don't directly insult the actors 😁 Now I do want to comment…
I really appreciate your reasonable perspectives on my thoughts!
While I can understand most of your points, I still feel strongly that Youzhen is evil. Killing a rabbit out of jealousy? That’s unhinged and downright cruel. She cray cray and evil imo 😂
I'm not sure if I will ever like or sympathize with her or Liu Chang, even if writers give them "character development" or a heartbreaking past to explain their behaviours...
After finishing episode 6, I have to admit this drama still hasn’t hooked me 🥲 While the production quality and acting are undeniably phenomenal, the storylines feel overly familiar. So I was a bit surprised that viewers praised the storyline, because nothing new has stood out so far for me...
- A smart FL with an exceptional talent for business and numbers - Greedy, shameless and murderous in-laws - An cowardly and abusive husband - The evil mistress trope - The FL’s mother dying of sickness - An evil, manipulative stepmother - A cowardly, easily manipulated father - A powerful ML occasionally stepping in to rescue the FL (tho I do appreciate that ML is not that much of a stereotype so far, he's rather indifferent, doesn’t pity her as much and isn't overly noisy) - Tons of evil people - Endless suffering and misfortune for the FL, one blow after another—she really can’t catch a break...
The list of clichés could go on. I was genuinely excited about this drama, especially with such a brilliant cast and a director whose previous works I’ve loved. That’s why it’s disappointing that it hasn’t resonated with me yet.
I’ll keep watching, but honestly, I feel like I’ve gotten so negative about it that I might need to take a break and return when more episodes are out 😅
Please don’t jump on me for this—I know many people enjoy this drama, but this is just my opinion after six episodes.
Maybe bcs you are still on EP 3 but if you watch further you would see that the ppl you call villains aren't necessarily…
I’ve watched up to episode 6 and still feel the same. I appreciate flawed characters as well, but if you're labeling an abusive, potentially predatory person as simply “flawed” or “complex,” then we clearly have very different definitions of what separates a “flawed” character from a villain.
