Chinese version of Mr. & Mrs Smith. Decent Spy drama of a couple from different sides.
Mr. & Mrs. Chen is a spy drama set in the 1940s. Former lovers Zuo Shuang Tao and Chen Jia Ping unexpectedly reunite and rekindle their love in a sea of spies as they pursue the same goals. This is the Chinese version of American Mr. & Mrs Smith (played by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.)
It is not a bad drama with a lot of suspenseful moments. The acting is good from the lead actor and actress (Elvis Han and Guan Xiao Tong.)
I would rate it higher if it showed more romance between the lead actors. It is a good watch, and I enjoyed it. I give it a 7.5 rating.
A decent Wuxia drama with good acting, but too long and draggy. Probably better with 30 episodes
Finally, I finished "Destined." starring Bai Jing Ting and Song Yi. The story is about Liu Yu Ru, the only legitimate daughter of a former cloth merchant living a stoic life with her mother in a household where they're mistreated despite their status. Due to a misunderstanding, she is married off to Gu Jiu Si, the notorious son of Yangzhou's wealthiest family, infamous for his idle lifestyle and indolent ways. At first, Gu Jiu Si does not like Liu Yu Ru, believing her to be calculating and scheming. As she settles into her new life, she learns business from her welcoming mother-in-law while growing closer to Gu Jiu Si. However, the storm clouds of war are gathering on the horizon, and the Commissioner of Yangzhou creates endless days of terror, forcing the Gu family into unimaginable circumstances. As the couple grows closer through their hardships, the benevolent pair becomes destined for greatness. The story is good and believable; however, I found it a bit too long and fell asleep watching it. I also FF many scenes and episodes to move the story along. The acting is good from the entire ensemble. BJT and SY did a good job, but I think the one who acted the best was Zhao Zi Qi, who played Gu Jiu Si's mother.
I give it a 7.0 rating, and I would give a higher rating if the drama were to be cut short by 10 episodes. The first 25 episodes were good; 25-35 were too boring and repetitive. The last 5 episodes were more interesting after the Emporer died.
Not much romance between the main CP, but it’s a decent Republican era drama.
Thin Ice is a Republican spy drama in Shanghai in 1943, starting with Peng Guan Ying as Chen Qian and Chen Yu Qi as Yu Chun Yang as the main CP. Fu Da Long, Gao Han Yu, and Chen Xiao Yun as the 2nd leads.Republican drama is not my genre either because of too much propaganda about the communist party and the fighting of the Japanese. Too many dramas have been done in this era, so it is predictable, boring, and too much of a rehashing of the past.
However, I like Peng Guang Ying because I think he is a good decent actor, and in this drama, his character disguised as a Japanese envoy and went deep into the enemy's camp. It would be interesting to see how his relationship develops with Yu Chun Yang and Wu Ruo Nan throughout his spy duty.
One of the things that annoys me is the fake Chinese/Japanese accent of his character and other Japanese characters.
I think Chinese dramas should move away from this genre or not create repetitive dramas about the 1930s and the 1940s because every drama is about the same plot, fighting the Japanese, the civil unrest, and the Communist party. Too boring.
This is one of the decent Republican era drama that I have watched.
Very bad drama - don't waste your time.
Gentlemen of East 8th is the worst drama that I have watched, with Zhang Han as the ML. I watched quite a few dramas where he always plays the arrogant and bossy character. However, in this drama, it seems life imitates work. He plays one of the four gentlemen in their late 30s and (early) 40s who have not been in a marriage or lasting relationship.
The story's premise and flow are dragging and boring, and the acting of the supporting cast is not good either. I can understand why Douban only gives it a 2.0 rating.
I have watched 14 episodes already, giving it a 2.0 rating. I may finish it because I want to know why these four guys take so long to settle into any relationship and how Tong Yu has a son. So far, there is no mention of it, and YouTube has an auto-translated caption which is no good. Stupid but expected ending.
Predictable and typical Republican period drama, with bad acting and propaganda.
"The Last Princess" is another mediocre and bad Republic of China period drama. How many dramas do China needs to make about this era? I understand it is part of history, but every year there are too many replicas of this type of drama, and it is gotten old and boring. The drama is set during the early years of the Republic of China. The story follows a fallen noblewoman, an aspiring doctor during the Qing dynasty, and the son of a great family who becomes a soldier.
Zhang: He looks young for his age and is another one-dimensional actor who can't act. His onscreen chemistry with Rain Wang is not great, either. The entire ensemble's acting ability is also bad.
Actress Rain Wang couldn't act either; her crying was awkward and showed no emotion. She appeared to laugh rather than cry in most scenes, especially from episode 20 onward. Her character, Yurong, is annoying, too self-righteous, stubborn, and her husband is also weak. He can’t control or put his foot down when she is stubborn and stupid. The plot is also predictably stupid.
I have watched 26 episodes already and want to see the ending since I have invested so much time in it. I am giving this drama a 4.5 rating. Predictable ending where he miraculously recovered from amnesia and join the communist party.
Not as good as I expected
The production quality of this drama was awesome. iQiYi production quality is much better than Tencent and MangoTV.I like the first 10 episodes of this drama because the acting skills of the lead actors are good and quite comical. The entire ensemble is good too.
However, I got so bored as the story unfolded about the fighting among the brothers, and it got draggy; hence I got bored and found myself fast forward some of the scenes.
Bai Jing Ting and Tian Xi Wei did a good job as the main CP, and their onscreen chemistry is quite good. I like Bai Jing Ting a lot and have watched many of his dramas and mostly modern dramas. I watched this first costume of his, and he did a decent job. It is a drama where he had multiple kissing scenes where he had not had many kissing scenes in the past, like Irreplaceable love, The ordinary Glory, etc.
This is my first drama with Tian Xi Wei, where she played the lead role and did a good job. I will give it a 7.5 or 8.0 rating if the drama is cut short to 30 episodes instead of 40. As it is because it was draggy, so I am giving it a 6.5 rating out of 10.
Jing Boran and Seven Tan acted great, but the plot was draggy, boring with stupid ending
Road Home is a modern drama focused on a long lost love of Gui Xiao and Lu Yan Chen during high school when they broke up and rekindled their love 15 years later. The drama started great, and Jing Boran and Seven Tan acted great. Still, the plot got boring, stupid, repetitive, and very draggy, especially in the last 5 episodes.
The ending in episode 30 was stupid; it replayed their first encounter, which was repeated in previous episodes. I wish the conclusion showed the married of the 2nd CP.
I agree with Duoban's rating. I initially rated it high, but I am downgrading it to 6.0 because it was boring, draggy, and stupid.
iQiYi did it again with short-series, good story about time revers crime drama. BJT was awesome
Mobius is a time and space crime drama starring Bai Jing Ting, Janice Man, and Song Yang.Bai Jing Ting's character (Ding Qi) was a skilled detective who utilized his reverse time ability to solve multiple crimes involving murder suspects who also possessed a similar gift.
There were some humorous elements in this short-series drama; however, the romance between him and An Lan (played by Janice Man) was not particularly compelling. Their on-screen chemistry was not good.
Synopsis: In a specific time and space, detective Ding Qi accidentally discovered that he could reverse time and repeat the cycle five times on the same day from time to time. He utilized this superpower to solve numerous challenging cases. One day, a murder notice from suspect X suddenly appeared. Several previous cases of suspected X's perfect committing methods made Ding Qi suspect: X also seems to have the superpower of the time loop. The investigation team, headed by Ding Qi, joined the case investigation. During the investigation, Ding Qi discovered that more and more doubts surround a certain genetic research group. As the investigation deepens, more people become involved, including those close to Ding Qi.

A Refresh look at China's modernization of the manufacturing industry in the 90s.
Created in China is a modern business drama about the rise of China's manufacturing industry in the 90s, starring Zhang Xin Cheng and Song Er. The acting and on-screen chemistry between Zhang Xin Cheng and Song Er were good. It was great to see the struggles, the rise, and the fall of doing business in China, where Lin Jun wanted to modernize it, but faced resistance from the old generation. One of the disappointments of this drama is that Song Er's character, Cui Bing Bing, did not appear until the midpoint of the drama.
Synopsis: In the late 1990s, Liu Jun, who studied in Germany, returned to his hometown of Donghai. Following the tide of the times, he is determined to modernize his father's old machinery factory with leading technology. It was great to learn how it was all started for 鄧麗君 and learnt about her humble beginning.
Teresa Teng is based on the true story of the life of 鄧麗君, a well-known singer around the world, whose life was cut short at the age of 43.Synopsis: The story begins with the unexpected situation of the concert in Shanghai in 2008. Lying on a stretcher, the third brother, Deng Chang Fu, recalled that on the morning of the early winter of 1953, the fourth child of the Deng family, "the girl," was born in a village in Taiwan's family. The girl's talent in singing appeared when she was young, but her father, Deng Shu, firmly opposed it. Deng Shu retired from the army and began his career as a market stall. The girl was puzzled by the depression and homesickness in her father's heart, but she became a little helper for her father to sell steamed buns. After graduating from primary school, the girl was not admitted to junior high school. However, winning the singing competition through the radio has become a regular shift for singing programs. Deng Shu clashed with hooligans at the market stall, was beaten and injured, and went into a lawsuit. Late at night, the couple felt all this was due to the lack of a fixed store. The girl listened in her ear, loved her parents, became a signed singer, paid in advance, and used the money to top the store for her father. Deng Shu was moved when he knew. The girl finally made it to the stage and got countless good reviews.
My Reviews:
1. I idolized 鄧麗君 and grew up listening to her music. My parents adore her music as well.
2. It was good to see how she got started in the entertainment business. She came from a poor but loving family. Her parents and four brothers protected and supported her dream.
3. It was also sad to see that her love life did not plan out how she expected, and she was lonely and unloved by her lovers.
4. She died at such a young age, 43, without having a family of her own.
5. I am curious to know how true the drama portrayed her best friend, Duan Ning. If it was true, 鄧麗君 should cut ties with her because I hated this character in the drama. She was selfish and not a true and caring friend for 鄧麗君. She only thinks of herself and does not allow Teresa to get involved with Zhou Tai Sheng, whom she had a crush on. He did not love her the way he loved Teresa Teng.
6. Peng Guan Ying, who played Zhou Tai Sheng, did a mediocre job playing this character. He did not show good emotions when he felt he made a mistake and lost her.
7. Peter Ho did a good job playing Wang Zhong Wen; at least, I can see his emotions when he called off the wedding. He felt guilty about hurting Teresa.
8. Michelle Chen did a good job playing 鄧麗君; the last few episodes were so good that I was balling.
I enjoyed this drama, and the music brought back good memories of my childhood listening to 鄧麗君. I give it an 8.0 rating.
This Republican Era genre had less propaganda, good script and acting, especially from Li Zhi Mo.
Shooting Stars is another Republican-era melodrama genre. I wish China stopped producing so many dramas for this era. The plot is pretty much the same for every Republican-era drama. This one focused less on the communist party and more on the relationship between the Unit 4 police station and their friendship. My Reviews:
1. If you are looking for romance in this drama, you will be disappointed because there is very little romance between the main CP and 2nd CP.
2. The gits of the story about espionage and the intro and recruitment of the communist party.
3. I adored Li Zhi Mo, who plays Li Qiu Shi / Meng Duo Ci's character. This young actress has great potential. She acted so well in the first 10 episodes.
4. In this drama, she acted better than Ren Mi, the FL. I don't like her acting ability, so I dropped most of her dramas where she is the FL.
5. It has an interesting twist about Li Xian's character as he discovers his own journey and how his family was involved in smuggling weapons and selling them to the Japanese. It went against what he believed and eventually went against his brother and family joining the community party.
I give it a 7.5 rating for decent scripts and good acting, especially from Li Zhi Mo.
It is good crime investigation drama about intelligent humanoid. Good watch.
The Bionic Life is another light-on-series from iQiyi, and they are the leader in this type of short series. I have watched many of their light-on-series, and they are excellent, and this drama is another good one.The plot is about investigating which humanoid is the killer of humans. Song Wei Long and Vicky Chen are this drama's lead actors/actresses.
The acting is good for both the lead and supporting cast, especially Vicky Chen. She is young and talented, especially in this type of genre. Song Wei Long acted his best in this drama compared to others he was in.
I enjoyed it and highly recommend you check it out. My only complaint is that humanoids are intelligent robots, so why is their blood when they die? Not realistic. I give it an 8.0 rating.
Good story with many twists and surprises. Enjoyable to watch.
The Legend of Zhuohua tells the love story of a woman who overcomes many trials to become a female official and a general who has weathered many hardships on his road to victory. The acting in this drama is quite good, especially Jing Tian and Wang Li Kun. It has so many twists and surprises that it keeps me engaged with the story. I didn't know the story's villain was Princess Rou Jia, played by Wang Li Kun.
The death of General Liu Yan in episode 37 was a surprise, and I thought the empire would collapse because of the weak Emporer, Liu Chen (played by Zhou Yi Ran), but the twist was he faked his death and came back to help conquer the kingdom.
It was enjoyable to watch, and I gave it a 7.5 rating. I would give a higher rating if the production quality of the drama is better. What is up with TenCent when it comes to historical drama? They make everyone look so white, like ghosts. It was hard to see it on screen, and I wish they had used the natural skin colors of the actors.
Cliche and cheesy romance drama, and the acting is worse than first season.
"Love Replica" is the second season of "Mysterious Love" with the same cast and director. I wish the script to continue the previous one where the story was more believable and interesting."Love Replica" has a completely different story, and this drama's acting is worse than the previous one. It is cliche and cheesy, so I'm not fond of it. I would not waste my time in this drama; the ending is so stupid; it revealed that XiXi is a robot and AnYue, a human supposed to save the robot with a brain transplant. WTF, how stupid is that, and the father, Xu Yong Yu, is willing to sacrifice his real daughter, An Yue, to save a robot, XiXi.
The director and cast members are 90% the same as in the Mysterious Love drama. That drama has a better plot and is more believable than this stupid one. I give it a 4.5 rating.
Unrealistic, cheesy RomCom but watchable, the FL did a decent job
TGWSS drama is a RomCom 24 episodes drama. It is an unrealistic drama about someone's saliva can cure a strange disease. The plot is stupid and cheesy, but the acting of the FL, Jin Zi Xuan, is decent. The same cannot be said for the ML, Jia Yi. However, the love they have for each other is believable. I like Du Hou Jia's acting as He Le role; he is funny, and Bai Bing's character is annoying, stupid, and can't take 'No' for the answer.
I don't like female character who is conniving, clingy and do not think the best of themselves, and do stupid stuff like Bai Bing's character.
I binged watch it since it was released with 24 episodes on iQiYi; it is decent but not great drama. I give it a 5.0 rating.
