The biggest mistake of YuZheng was sacrificing the development XH character because he had doubts about Wang Xing Yue and his chemistry with Wu Jin Yan. People can say whatever they want about Shen Yu Rong or Wanning being "more interesting" -well easy when they have been fleshed out by the PD- but once the drama aired the biggest traction of the show apart from the revenge storyling turn up to be Wang Xing Yue's Xiao Heng to the point this month has become HIS month in cdramaland and the drama had its peak numbers when he was very important in the show.
I think it is odd to cast certain actors and don't trust that they would work well together or have chemistry.…
They gave him a lil bit more than in the novel but his character does not dominate the screentime compared to the likes of SYR or the FL of course. So it seems like YZ wanted to do his idol costume drama version of "The Glory" where the romance is not important at all and ML is there but not so much (in both dramas FL actresses are much older than the ML actors). The thing is in "The Double" The ML and FL romantic chemistry took everyone by surprise because of how strong it was, with Duke Su character being as striking and magnetic as his bright red clothes. YuZheng definitely had doubts about the OTP.

YuZheng as the producer did not trust Wang Xing Yue and Wu Jin Yan would work so well as a pair. TTherefore I am assuming and strongly believe they did not want to grant too many scenes to the OTP nor give it more explosive execution since they probably thought it was the weakest link of the drama. Now it makes me think it must have been difficult for them to cast Wang Xing Yue as ML and Jin Yan's love interest (12 years age gap) in the beginning but they had to pick him at the end of the day since probably other actors that were approached for Duke Su role rejected it. Plus in the novel which is very female centric, the revenge of XFF is the main center of the storyline and the ML apparently does have a small role. Drama hardly had the fewest reservations among other cdramas airing this year showing how nobody really had faith on this show and even lesser on its OTP. To conclude I now understand where the drama makers especially the producer are coming from.

Not only that. But ruining a really good romantic OTP and wasting a great chemistry through self-sabotaging execution, in dramaland, is unacceptable for me and a deal breaker. If you can't shoot a kiss, shoot a hug and it would have been fine.
I have no patience for a self-sabotaging director that doesn't know how to handle a good romantic pair with a great chemistry. This is the easiest thing to execute in dramaland. The Double director f.cked up on this part and he lost me there -from WXY account himself that B. f.cked up the wedding scene they took hours to shoot.
