Great Review! I am huge YuYu Hakusho fan as well (manga and anime both). You summed up everything I felt watching this as well. I was hesitant about watching it originally, cause I was so afraid they would mess it up. As you said they mainly condensed the story way to much and you don't feel any connection to the characters. They did do well with the acting and the fight scenes, but I love YuYu Hakusho for the story and I didn't feel it here.
I am huge fan of the manga and anime. I am on episode 2 of the live action right now. The acting is good, the fight scenes are incredible so far, but I don't like how they are condensing the story. It is way to fast-paced and you aren't really getting to know these main characters at all. I will see how the rest of the series plays out.
Although, I haven't finished, I agree with most of your review (all the parts you mentioned that I actually have watched) I think I stopped watching it at about around episode 12 or 13. I may eventually go back and rewatch it. I love Miles Wei, but have been so disappointed with his dramas lately. My absolute favorite of his and what got me originally to be a fan was Unforgettable Love (I have rewatched that one numerous times, because it was so good and cute )and he wasn't bad in Only For Love.
I don't know why kdramas now a days have so many mixed reviews. Some rate it 9.5 while some have rated as low…
I just binged this in the last 24 hrs, mainly because I saw a lot of really good reviews on IG, FB, and Twitter (X), so I decided to check it out. It has a really slow start, I almost dropped and didn't understand why so many people liked it, but I kept going and glad I did, it was good.
Finished, almost non stop watching it after episode 1. I did fast forward through some of the sister's scenes with the FL's ex, cause honestly I didn't really like his character at all, he was very boring and just kind of a blah character overall.
The drama was really good. If you are like me and wanted to drop it in the middle of episode 1, don't!!!!, give it more time at the end of episode 1 and on it really kicks up. It was really good acting by all. At first I wasn't sure if I liked the FL, but she ended up being pretty good. Although, they did way to many close ups of her face (her eyes really stood out to me and it kind of was weird). The story was good and most/if not all the plots closed up nicely. I more than wish the sister had gotten more of a bad ending (granted the one they gave her wasn't the best, but honestly she could always rise up from that situation, imo). I was kind of hoping the older brother of the ML would have had a better ending, I was looking more of a redemption/turn around for him. I don't like what they did to him.
Also, I saw a lot of comments who thought the FL's father should have been punished, but I don't think so. He was oblivious most of the time and he basically was manipulated by his wife, so I can understand a bit and he came around when it was important. I almost thought the grandpa should have, but he helped the FL so much that I forgave him as well.
I was more than a bit surprised at all the money being thrown around and with all the bribes, etc. I was beginning to think that the families had money trees in their yard or something.
Good story and great acting. I really like watching Sung Hoon and am so glad this was a good drama for him.
It definitely was a good watch and I am happy with the ending.
Just started this because I heard so much more positive about this than negative, a lot of "must watch" reviews. I am halfway through episode 1 and bored. Also, I don't know if it is my TV, the Viki app, the camera, her makeup, or what but the FL's eyes seem a bit weird and they seem to focus strait on them from time to time. I am going to stick with it because of the ML, I really enjoy watching him and hope it gets better.
For those who are familiar with the story and/or have watched the first few episodes of this drama, do you think…
Thank you for all your replies. I mainly ask because I can't watch ALP and I have tried multiple times. The story looks good and it has a lot of my favorite actors in it, but I honestly did not like the FL. She may be a great actor, but I just felt uncomfortable watching her and just didn't feel her in the role (just my personal opinion). I really wanted to watch it too.
For those who are familiar with the story and/or have watched the first few episodes of this drama, do you think you need to watch Ancient Love Poetry to watch and/or fully enjoy this drama?
Speculation is rampant with this original script. Can't go check the book for spoilers. I'm loving some of the…
That's how I like it, no expectations or disappointments if certain people don't play the role like intended or the script isn't following the novel, etc. I love original screenplays.
The contrast of the black and red was nice to watch. The whole fight sequence was well choreographed. The only thing I found a bit unnecessary was the poses (pauses) for the camera effect.
