It's not a melodrama, but a drama. Some people confuse drama as a genre and drama as a type of media since it has become synonymous to some with series. But a movie can be a drama movie just as a series can be a drama series. So if it's more dramatic, they tend to think melodrama even if it's not a soap opera kind of drama.

they forgot what the "com" is in romcom hahaha even if there would be some comedic moments, this is more romance drama

All I can say is Han Chae Ah needs to be casted in another villainous role because she nailed it.

but how many are commenting against the writer's approach and calling it a "pity party" or saying "are we supposed to empathize with them now?" and the like?

If you think about it, not every bad person started out that way (unless they are psychopaths but that's another discussion). They made the worst decisions and kept piling up one after another. Do we condemn a bad person willing to own up to their wrongs? Or do we give them a chance? I know this is drama and a lot of it is beyond logical. But our reactions to these characters do speak volumes.

2 - There is no "L" in Korean alphabet. Im is romanized as Lim (for our alphabet) but in fact the "L" is not pronounced. Same with surname Lee, it's really just "Ee" and pronounced like that. So... name is Sol, surname is Im => Im Sol (Romanized as Lim Sol)

Im Sol goes back in time and makes him more in love with Im Sol, not realizing that it's only in 2023 that he meets the real version he falls head over heels for
