does anyone just smile while rewatching those happy and funny moments then u suddenly start crying bc u remember how everything changed so much? i feel like im going crazy. the only way to move on is to hit my head hard and forget everything
this is the type of drama that when u rewatch it, the meaning of the scenes and lines will be different from how it was before. especially that fucking poem the first time i watched it i was smiling ear to ear, now im sobbing bc the message changed completely after knowing what happened in the last episode. it's like a whole new experience, a more agonizing one.
I was planning to give this drama a 9 or 9.5 until I watched that ending - the dream sequence. WHOSE IDEA WAS…
it was not a dream, it was the afterlife. yisan had the chance to go back to life if he opened the door, but he chose to stay with deokim thus the line "so the moment became forever". but it could be also interpreted as a dream or memory if u want because the drama left it vaguer than the novel.
The Red Sleeve Episode 5, when Yisan's mother came while he was tasting the coming-of-age foods and Deokim was…
another ironic thing is that lady hyegyeong was initially thought to be an obstacle in yisan and deokim's relationship, but in the end she was the one pushed it through for yisan's happiness.
The Red Sleeve Episode 5, when Yisan's mother came while he was tasting the coming-of-age foods and Deokim was present at that time.
"I have no intention of keeping a lowly court lady near me. Only the prestigious noble family deserves to be by my side. They are the only ones who can give birth to a legitimate successor and it's my duty to have such a successor. Born as a crown prince, I lived a comfortable life. Every time I eat nice food and wear expensive silk clothes, there were duties piling up. I will dedicate myself to this country. I'll never put my personal life first."
This line hits a whole lot differently now. The first 3 sentences turned out to be ironic- he kept Deokim near him, and Deokim gave birth to the very first successor/crown prince. But he stayed true to his last 2 sentences, he always put his country above his personal life :(
Funny isn't it? Would things have been different if he indeed did all of this? Or if he did the opposite of all he said? Either way, there would be always something at risk in whatever decision he chooses.
The Red Sleeve Episode 5, when Deokim thought Yisan had a courtesan he adored.
Yisan: You thought I was a bum who would frequent the courtesan house just to hook up courtesans? Deokim: No, you aren't. But you are also a man, and not many men keep their desire under control just to uphold their principles.
In the end, it was Deokim herself that Yisan desired over. He managed to uphold his principles, but it was the thing that would always hurt Deokim. The fact that he would always choose his duties as a king over her.
"I find it perplexing that despite the fact that the vast majority of people who consume kdrama are women, many still did not understand Deok Im’s reluctance to accept San’s proposals. #TheRedSleeve"
samee that's why im buying the director's cut bluray, hoping there would be family scenes there
unfortunately the bluray will only be shipped on august 2022 :( or maybe even later. idk if you'll still be checking the comment section by then but i'll make sure to comment it
And did you see this one? Brings to mind how Yeongjo told him he'd understand him eventually, even though he vowed…
without a doubt. i feel like those who haven't or doesn't get to read all these interpretations and analyses won't see and feel the most out of the drama. there are a lot of details that are quite hard to notice or understand especially if you're not korean or used to sageuks.
