Episode 21 is so cute with the FL and ML. They only have eyes for each other. Then comes the heartbreak. 😭

I really enjoyed all the Imperial Exam scenes and parade. The sense of years hard work culminating into honor and victory is palpable. Lu Chang is very dignified, eloquent, resilient, and a fighter for justice.

Lu Chang always sincerely thanked Song whenever he helped. He even did his hair! 😂

But does that entitle him to Ming Shu's identity when Ming Shu herself doesn't know yet? No. What good does telling him do? Song doesn't have power like Prince Rui.

If she's the cousin, where are the parents? It also raises questions. And people married cousins back then so it would remove this romantic blockage so there's no plot conflict at all. No need for SML either. And safest place is with him and he needs to be at the Capitol to gain power and be more capable of protecting her.

His goals are:
1. Protect Ming Shu
2. Exonerate his master, the father figure of his life
3. Find out Ming Shu's father's murderer by extension of exonerating his master.

And he's doing all this coming from a poor background, raised by a single mother, studying hard, climbing step by step up with no resources.

The story gets more popular when the ML and FL have scenes. It's much more exciting and heart breaking.

His writing is beautiful and it's cool how he did all the calligraphy, big, medium or small letters, himself and didn't need a hand double. The Imperial Test scenes were well done, great mood.

Also, not trying to be flippant, but what did SML sacrifice? He knelt for 4 hours and was barely whipped by his dad because his mom was on top of him. Then they forgave him immediately, loved him, encouraged him to take the test. He's still rich and has a page boy to do his hair. Yes, I feel for him and his sadness, but he is fine and will have lots of other love prospects.

ML would have truly died without a last minute save from a father he never knew existed. He was ready to die or be crippled for seeing FL. And he told his mom not to let her know.

FL loves solving cases with ML. She is attracted to his intelligence, his ambition, his talent and his steadiness. He takes good care of her, cooking her favorite foods, peeling her longans, making sure her pillow is soft, cleaning and decorating her room... Little details of love that's easily taken for granted. He empowers her, teaching her to write calligraphy for her own store, supporting all her decisions. He appreciates her and she glows around him. I think it makes perfect sense that she loves him.

She said, "Someone else sweetly calls him 'Lu da ge'". Twice. And she needed reassurance that he was closest to her instead of another girl. It's not only about keeping secrets. Sisters aren't in tears about brothers keeping secrets. And she enjoyed his apology because she wasn't really mad about the betrayal but wanted his attention again.

I agree he hurt her (I think he had his reasons, justified or not), but he's made up for it by risking his life multiple times for her and the emotional support he provides. He also knows that she is dreaming of him, so it's not unreasonable that he is hoping for a 2nd chance. But he's also sacrificing his feelings to keep her from going to revenge mode. He's conflicted. Not perfect at all. Human.

I also agree that this jealousy thing is stupid and could be better written. But the drama thinks it's funny to have a have a jealous "black bellied" hero. But it's a phase that I see is over, thankfully.

Will add, for his "original sin" of rejecting her, I think he has made up for it by saving her life countless times.

Sorry, besides the ones I mentioned, I am really having trouble remembering interruptions after he recused himself to go to the academy which happened in Ep 12. He saw that he was wrong.

ML barely has screen time. So he's not getting in the way of any relationship, especially after Ep 20 when it was declared there's no relationship.

As for ML. He isn't her brother, he can't act like her brother. She isn't acting like a sister either. She's also jealous of Tang Li. She enjoyed flirting with him when they were acting like a couple. They are both attracted to each other and trying to suppress it. It's the main plot - this pseudo sibling, forbidden love. It's the hurdle they need to overcome and they will never be siblings.

It's a weird trope for sure, but I think the drama did it better than some others because we know she liked him before amnesia.

But then SML put FL at social risk for letting her come to the academy. So he made the bamboo dumplings and didn't let SML use his minor scratch to get close to her.

Trying to remember when else ML interrupted.... SML popped in on their moment when ML was getting the charm, and when FL was measuring him. Actually it's SML coming to their house to be a 3rd wheel. I have to laugh at the scene in Ep 17 when Lu Chang was threatening someone, but SML was standing behind doing..... Why was he ML's shadow?

Now FL has directly said she's not interested. He needs to leave her alone.
