Drama writers made TTJ too much of a green flag prolly coz of censorship but didn't change the characterization of LSS from the novel so she appeared harsh to him. Novel TTJ was evil so they balanced out there. Unfortunately, drama had to cut out many immortal arc scenes coz of the sudden max 40eps with 45-50mins/ep.restriction mandated by the NTRA before airing so the story between CJM and LSS suffered.
But at the end of the day, LSS' mission was to save the realms - not to fall in love. She did that anyways - although not too obvious coz I mean what is giving up an eye and her divine essence --- developed through suffering from lots of pain and becoming almost totally blind --- to help your enemy become good. She changed TTJ's predetermined evil trajectory and made him love the world. If that isn't love, I dunno what is. Although I do get what you mean by the back and forth not paying off in the end. It was frustrating that the drama writers chose the BE/OE because they wanted a more long-lasting impact. There are literally HE chapters in the novel. LOL! How does Bo're Dream arc fit into growing the main leads' characters in the main story?-> There are certain artifacts that will be shown in the dream arc which will have significance in the story later esp.for TTJ and LSS. LSS will also discover a way to "defeat" DG.
Does "good" in this story mean "cares about the welfare of others and is selfless" and "bad" or "evil" mean "selfish and willing to harm others for one's own benefit"? -> Yes and yes for the most part. Although some characters are morally gray.
And are all gods good except ADG? ->Yes. All the ancient gods were good. ADG is the evil foil to all of them.
As are immortals? -> Immortals in this world are beings (humans/spirits/demons) that have ascended to a higher level (but not yet gods). They do this by cultivating and there are many levels even after turning immortal. They become members of various sects like Hengyang sect, Xiaoyao sect, and other ridiculously translated sect names. They on the other hand cannot be all be lumped together as good or bad but we nicknamed most of them as immorons and you will understand why later on. LOL!
Who is Sang Jiu? -> Sang Jiu is the clam princess of the Mohe River clam clan. She is a clam spirit - not a god. She met Ming Ye by chance which led to their entanglement.
And is Ming Ye a good god or a bad god? He was too good as the God of War - meaning he cared too much for the general welfare to the point that SangJiu became collateral damage. (*coughs* horrible husband *coughs*)
(since it seemed his river dragon self was still torn between becoming good or bad--was a bit confused on why, and how the four characters could make a difference through their role-playing?) -> He was supposed to become a True God(higher level god) but he wasted his cultivation after a major sad event and he pined away at the bottom of the Mohe River. I dubbed him emo god at that point. Haha! When TTJ came around he was so emo'd out that he couldn't decide yet whether to devilize or not. He will make a decision for the good later on. As for the role play, all of the 4 main characters will be emotionally affected by what they "experienced" and will have significant bearing to their decisions later on.
Why was he a demon river dragon? -> He was originally a flood dragon from the East Sea but he cultivated diligently, ascended, and eventually became a god.
What does it mean that some are demons vs. immortals? -> Immortals I have defined above. Demons are beings made by nature. There are many kinds like the drought demon(Si Ying - ADG right hand woman), dream/nightmare demon, etc. They are not naturally "bad" although they might be mischievous but snotty immortals look down on them and even tried to exterminate them.

DG 2.0 is the first appearance of Xixi in ep1. He is the one with the iconic entrance in his flying chariot and annihilated all of the sects including LiSusu's Hengyang Sect. This triggered LSS to go back 500 years making her meet Tantai Jin 2.0.
ADG =Ancient Devil God was born from pre-world chaos (aka pre-Big Bang in science terms) during the era of Nvwa and Fuxi (creators of the world and humanity in Chinese mythology). To protect humanity in case Devil God ever descended upon the Three Worlds and Four Continents, Nvwa and Fuxi created the Twelve ancient Gods. So the 12 ancient gods are actually a generation below Devil God, hence the huge difference in ability. He co-existed with the other creation figures (Pangu, Nvwa etc.). They represent goodness, while he is the shadow/evil of the world. Think of it as a VR game - TTJ plays MingYe, LSS/YeXiwu plays SangJiu, YeBingchang plays Tian Huan, and XiaoLin plays SangYou.

My goodness! How I love Liu Xue Yi and Wu Jin Yan! It is awesome to see actors of the same caliber facing off on screen. Their line delivery is impeccable and the chemistry is chemistrying. They certainly brought their acting game on. Even the supporting actors can hold their own (so far haha).
Whoever is in-charge of the music score has done an A+ job! The scene after Murong JingHe declared himself the Ghost General, one of the OSTs with an ululating sound started with ghostly whispers underscoring it. This is how a viewing experience is really amplified. ***goosebumps!***
The cinematography is chef's kiss. One can tell that the director of photography really took the time to frame the shots. The color grading is spot on and really sets off the colors, textures, and even the sheen of the fabrics. That overhead shot of Mei Lin's golden sleeves billowing against her black dress while she was pushing away Murong Jing He was pure cinema.
I feel the urge to rewatch the episodes which I normally don't do just to catch more details. Haven't been excited to watch a Cdrama in so long and can't wait to see more! 🔥🔥🔥
