I agree. He deserves to be free but it’s not his destiny. It’s pretty saddening to me but I someone has to save the people. Eun Jo definitely loves the people more, though she loves him. Her sense of Justice is just really strong. He’ll make such a great king and she knows he can do it. I don’t think he’ll hate it a lot either. He likes to be useful anyway. I think that’s what people are expecting but that’s not good acting or directing imo. It’s great here because they literally switch bodies and characters nearly exactly or at least tried their best to.
Also, even if you can tell that she’s older, what does it matter? It’s not a very large gap and besides people date and like people older or younger than them all the time, so what’s the issue?
