I really loved this. it's not mind-blowing but there's something really lovely about their simple lives done just right. I didn't know I'd love the story, and I didn't know I'd love the characters even more.
that whole conversation between them was uncomfortable. i couldnt get where he was going with it. was he blmaing…
He was blaming her for sure. Came to shake her up a bit (a lot). If you make a mistake just say "Ah, it was an error". It's not like he would've gotten fired. A few higher-ups would have scolded him a bit and that would have been that. No, his pride was too big to admit to a mistake. I always hated when my literature questions had 2 interpretations.
dig ding ding! We have a psychopath on our hands- Mr.Pyo. I was so uncomfortable and annoyed by him and his existence that I watched that scene in her office at 2x speed. He talks like he could eat my head😠I sort of wish Hye Jin wouldn't cower in front of Mr.Pyo like that. It makes me worried that she will lose. The drama has told us that she's a fighter so I wasn't sure how to feel when I saw her reaction to Mr.Pyo. He knows she's afraid of him too. My interpretation is that she really didn't consider any of the other teachers in the industry to be serious competition but can see that this man is made of something else. Actually, I didn't completely understand the lecture Jun Ho's friends and teacher Nam gave him, but I understood that he hadn't seen much of her vulnerable side before. I think he thinks she's Superman lol. They've told us she has a strong side. I want to see it, please. Because I think Mr.Pyo is being too much. I still stand by the opinion that Hye Jin was right about that question. And if she was right, then it was right for the kids to ask for it to be remarked. She only had a go at him because he refused. Even though it was indeed close to a win-win situation for her(not a total win-win because of the danger that he would give the kids bad reviews on their records), she did ask to see him privately when she first stepped into his office and he refused that. So I don't care if she had been hoping to have it out with him in the staff room. It was his idea to sit there like someone untouchable.
I also agree that she has a weird complex about her job. And she can indeed be hypocritical. Her reaction to the whole situation made me upset. We need a plan. You can't have a meltdown right now (then I remembered that I'm in no position to criticise another person for their meltdowns). I was even more irritated when the assistant teacher went to be him. Sis be fr.
Dating someone you're working with is almost always a bad idea. The preview shows me that she's going to attempt to eat Jun Ho alive in the next episode probably because of a new idea that he will probably be right about. I wish she wouldn't yell at him with everyone watching but when it comes to him she gets particularly upset. I wish him luck. Actually, I knew she would be super "flighty"- or maybe sensitive is a better word- about working with Jun Ho. I think she doesn't like that he thinks she's infallible, and I think something about him being able to see her life from the lens of an adult scares her. Because she knows in his mind she's this great person, and she thinks it's overblown. Of course, it is a bit but I think she's looking down on herself/ feeling super insecure. They're going to break up at some point, aren't they?
Also, I am sooooo excited for teacher Nam and Jun Ho's friend. "I just have something to say to her about how history is taught" Yeah right (and I really believed that at first *slaps head*).ðŸ¤I'm expecting only cute scenes from them and almost zero serious angst so I am super excited.
Anyway, it's my joy to overanalyse every breath they take.
Lastly, what did she mean when she told Jun Ho (in her bedroom) in yesterday's episode that she "can't teach him this"? Did she mean she has like- zero experience or was it purposely vague? I can't tell.
do you recommend another similar to this? besides nevertheless (I've already seen it)
hmm, it depends on what part of it you are looking for in another show. I mean, what is the similarity between this drama and Nevertheless that you looking for in another drama? Is it the realistic feeling of the relationship? If yes, I haven't watched other shows like these 2, but you can check out my Liberation Notes for the character study vibe. It's much slower though but it fits the show well.
To me, the biggest problem with this was not the FL's acting but the writing of the FL. It was really flat. I know SSK isn't that good but if the writing had been better then the show would have been much better. They set her up as a smart character and made us question how on earth she was smart, since her actions were not smart at all. If you're so smart then you should know that to betray someone you are actively, completely in love with, then you must have a strong reason so that your brain can make sense of it and you can attempt to hurt someone you love. But the reasons the writer gave us were so shallow; a misunderstanding that was not even realistic.
Although it was nothing special, SSK's acting was not unbearable. At certain points, it was even pretty good. The writing was the worst part. I still liked it quite a lot but that might be because my expectations were low in the first place and I reallllly wanted to watch JJS. He was so in love with her (and she him imo, even if she was so foolish). It was really fun to watch that. It's not amazing, but it's nice to watch casually. I still can't forget my favourite scene in this gosh- The scene where he finds out that she's a girl. I live for that scene lol. It was gorgeous. Both of them did so good in that scene (JJS carried it but it was still great). If you want to watch it just keep your expectations low and you'll be fine.
The simplistic characterization is showing its limitations. "I'm all about the money" FL has a change of heart…
About the "I'm all about the money" on the part of the FL- imo, she only says that. That's what I see in her attitude when she says that- like it's BS but she wants to believe it too. It's only part BS; the money is a great perk and she knows that. She doesn't actually think it's all about the money. She just says that because it's a way to help her not criticise the job and to be satisfied with it. She enjoys teaching, but is in a position that is not exactly teaching in the traditional sense, but is also sort of teaching and pays much, much better. I think she just accepted it as a path that was not bad to follow, but is not satisfied with it completely because she can't teach the way she would like, but says that to cover up that she feels that way about it. Didn't say anything about ML because I didn't see where he changed his stance.
EP 5 I loved this episode so much. The drama is wilddd omg. I screamed from excitement at the end. I'm worried that the episode raised my bar too high for the next ones. I knew he would try to convince her not to take it, not just for personal reasons (which he definitely has) but because he genuinely wants to learn from her. On the other hand, I'm so curious about what is making her hesitate. She told her lawyer friend to watch over her and not ask more questions because she's not ready to face herself yet. Some of it is about career growth I think, but I wonder if she's also worried/thinking about Jun Ho? I feel like she is, but is not sure what she's thinking? AAAA it was so fun this episode.
And then the way she smiled at the director at the end? It was so sly that I had to laugh. It was like a "ha I have you now!" smile. Honestly, I was surprised about the reason they reduced her class. I understand the business side but since I'm watching it from her pov, I can freely empathise with her. That must've hurt like hell since every student in a teacher's class is there because of their sweat and blood.
I feel like the preview is for the next 2 episodes instead of the next one? I'm not expecting him to try to kiss her in the next episode at all. That would be scandalous (because I feel like she will freak out lol) so I'm not going to raise my hopes and just expect it in episode 7. Oh, and it looks like they're going to have an argument? I'm sat. That offer from the Witch is crazy though. How do you pass up on that? Life is hard. If I were in her shoes the anxiety about if I would be making the right decision or not would drive me crazy. Also, I really love the music on this. I know some people hate it but seriously, I cannot relate. Once I hear it my heart gets so sentimental and mushy. How can I not love that?
Tbh if you don't like this episode, I think it will be hard to like the rest of the show, although it looks like the romance will start soon, I think most of it will be like this.
It's not a perfect story. There are some rough edges here and there but on average, it's a solid 8. The character used to be an idol and was very hurt by the past. Her character and actions matched what a person in her position would possibly be like. The direction was good quality and the acting was also pretty great. Toxic character or not- if a person can be like this then a story can surely be made. Let's say the character really is toxic; the director is not saying it's okay to be toxic- he's telling you a story about this toxic character. If you like mellow shows and enjoy character study then this will at least, not be a waste of time. It was interesting to meet that kind of character, and so well portrayed too. Respectfully she was a bit mad. Her desperation, frustration, sadness and confusion came through quite well. Not in an in-your-face way, but in slow moments of realisation. This is my favourite kind of drama to watch.
Completely underrated show.. I don't think people realize it accomplished exactly what it was going for! Absolutely…
I'm so surprised by the rating. I saw a comment saying it was shit and was so surprised because my rating was so high. I came and saw a 7.8. That is actually sooo surprising. Exactly what you've said is what I think- a story that achieved everything it set out to
I had fun with this episode, and the way the next episode will go was unexpected. I like where it's going now. I knew the kid was going to tell his other classmates that because I also think he was lowkey pissed that they sent him there, just for him to show up and be taken such good care of. It surprised him lol. SYJ still treats JH like a kid and I was surprised but not too surprised. It was believable because she was stressed and is used to being in control of things; since he basically begged her to work with him on this he knew it would be difficult to argue with her on this one. But as we see at the end he was right at least on a one-to-one student basis. SYJ loves to teach and loves her subject but can't teach it the way she did with JH because it's not possible to spend that same amount of time on a whole class of students. Even though she's considered smart she hasn't tried to change her teaching methods in years and it seems that change scares her too. She isn't a perfect genius. Jun Ho is less afraid of change and has better ideas at this time and that is okay. And she's never going to be "nice". She just isn't that character. If/ When they do start the relationship I think she'll try to be less harsh but it will never completely go away. Not everyone is like that. Also, Teacher NAM is scary omg. Not sure where we'll go with that one now. I think it's a show that most people will prefer to binge. But it's just so my style. If you're expecting them to be cute together or just waiting for that then it'll be difficult to enjoy this show. You have to be able to enjoy just plain life itself unfolding. They don't have that kind of chemistry but I see it in split moments. But they are not really supposed to have that at the moment, are they? I don't even know if they will have that sort of chemistry. But they obviously work very well together. I can see that they're close though. Even their coworkers can see that. He can physically hold her and shake her out of her shock and that's not a problem, I think even the way she talks to him shows that- when she's being harsh and when she's not lol. Before they went in for free lecture she said "Let's do this" lol. Me and ML can see through her. She was turning to him for encouragement. She was scared scared. The romance will come. They obviously admire each other but she first has to stop seeing him as her student. So until then. But she won't take the new job offer I don't think because the poster looks like her current office.
If you make a mistake just say "Ah, it was an error". It's not like he would've gotten fired. A few higher-ups would have scolded him a bit and that would have been that. No, his pride was too big to admit to a mistake. I always hated when my literature questions had 2 interpretations.
