I can understand if people who aren’t related to her think she doesn’t match TQ, but her own family?!We have…
Yup and that can be very common among Asian families. I remember back when I was young too, I had distant relatives that would compare me to my cousins saying I was prettier but one my cousins is paler so that is a plus for her over me. 💀 They can be very blunt about comments about looks and don't understand how it can affect the one receiving the comment.
SCC had received those comments (even when they were unintentional) since she was young especially being compared to her older sister who fits the beauty standard a lot more. It is why TQ's comment during the reunion was extra painful for her. It just "confirmed" her insecurity about looks even more (especially coming from someone she had a crush on and admired) and it is something that had never been truly resolved for her until the going back to school arc.
Was there any bts intraction between Jianci and Hongyi? 🤭I like to see their public intraction but I avoided…
There was one BTS with the ambulance scene, but both had more interactions with LLD even during it (they didn't really show a BTS with just those two during the car scene, but they are friends). LLD ended up twisting her neck because she couldn't stop laughing with WHY which TJC teased her for.
...was the second leads' kissing way better than the main leads'? I loved that couple - 🔥chemistry (and not…
Yup, also kissing scenes have to mean /something/ in dramas. I see this trend where kissing in C-dramas has been used to promote the male actors. They use those kiss scenes to hype the male actor as being this amazing kisser, etc. and they go on Weibo trends for it. Some dramas have way more kissing scenes than needed when it doesn't really move the plot forward except for ship moments. Some of these passionate kiss scenes I see in dramas also doesn't align with the /characters' traits/ and end up being contributed to the /actors/.
I am glad Filter did what they did because it makes so much sense for the characters. It did actually bring me out of the experience if TQ is some amazing kisser the first time or that SCC starts tongue kissing on their first go. Not to mention both are more "marriage before sex" characters so it makes no sense for them to go the route like how GY/LY did where their kisses are more the type that did lead to sex.
Haha, I think because of the LYF references, the LYF shippers were trying to say SCC = Xiao Yao. But the Filter…
Yup, and XL in a way is not the "main lead" of LYF so there were just never meant to be together. I think the LYF shippers just want a happy ending for their ship but just based on XL's and XY's character traits, it would not have happened under Tong Hua's pen LOL.
With TQ and SCC, Tong Hua took the time to let us fall in love with them and their love even with all these filters/misunderstandings because at the end of the day, they have very similar values of the world, the people, and even their own careers.
Someone noticed that the rainbow stairs doesn't have 'purple'I don't know if it was coincidence or they deliberately…
Haha, I think because of the LYF references, the LYF shippers were trying to say SCC = Xiao Yao. But the Filter drama fans were not having it because SCC (who used the Filter to "run away" from TQ) is someone who is still able to be brave especially once TQ confirmed his feelings for her. Plus, her rejection to TQ's confession was her thinking he doesn't like /her/, and she has nothing for him to like (aka it is a "her" problem and not because of TQ) while with LYF, Xiao Yao made it into XL's problem regarding his love.
Filter drama fans are okay with TQ being XL's reincarnation, but they reject SCC being XY's reincarnation and instead say it is just TQ in this life finally found someone who love him wholeheartedly.
This is unfair! I was waiting for Tang Qi to fall in love with Quan Sheng Tang
LMAO, I get it but at that point, it was too late because TQ already started suspecting things. QST first came as a rival to him and then he started seeing similarities between QST and the other transformations. And that point, he has already started falling for SCC as SCC. He did have fall for QST if the circumstance was different but QST in a way was the final piece to the puzzle that he needed to unlock the truth.
TikTok have bad reads on drama/animation mediums in general. I checked on TikTok for anime related analysis sometimes…
I think people (especially the younger audience) just don't have the patience and media literacy skills to really get dramas like this as much as in the past. With romance C-dramas, people internationally want visual and romance quickly. They really don't care about the characters as individuals. A lot of the popular romance C-dramas here have terrible characterization when you truly break down the characters (they exist just to date).
Filter promoted itself as this "crazy" drama so a lot of people on C-platforms who tuned in don't usually watch idol romance dramas. It is a different type of audience who is more open-minded to something different, so they were able to get the characters right away because they came into it not for the romance at first. The audience end up falling for our main pair, but they first got to know and love the characters first. There is this tagline on C-platforms for this drama, "I fell in love with the female lead before the male lead did". It goes to show how Filter's audience is willing to engage with the drama and its characters before the romance sets in.
Can you please answer few questions?(Please feel free to give spoilers)1. Happy ending or not?2. Any Love Triangles?…
1) Yes, it is happy ending.
2) No love triangles. There are two confirmed pairs in this drama and they are each other's only love interest. I guess you can see the "transformations" as love triangles but not really since they are all SCC (the female lead).
3) It is comedy first and foremost but mixed in with angst in the first half of this drama. But the angst doesn't last long and these characters are all very logical so they don't let the angst last long. The second half of this drama is more fluff (but then there is angst later on too but not due to love, just due to their situation).
4) They "officially" get together by episode 24-25 but both liked each other from way before. SCC had a crush on TQ (the male lead) which she shut off in the beginning due to misunderstandings (but her actions say otherwise such as caring for him, etc.) and TQ fell for SCC's "transformations" early on again and again.
5) They don't break up after they get together.
6) Oh man LOL. This entire drama is based on their misunderstandings. The title "Filter" is not just about the bracelet, it is also the "filters" the characters have on each other. It is like pride and prejudice. SCC thought TQ called her ugly while TQ thought SCC used to bully him. These misunderstandings hindered TQ from seeing SCC as SCC at first. But these misunderstandings are honestly more on the funny side and they do get resolved as the episodes go by and right before they get together, they resolve all their past misunderstandings.
7) Amazing plot. There are so many details and callbacks to this drama that you really have to watch without speeding through. It is also very character-driven and you can tell the scriptwriter loves her female characters in this drama.
8) In the beginning, the leads "disliked" each other so you might not feel the chemistry at first because you are not meant to. But as they develop into a mutual romantic relationship, you can definitely feel it. Their relationship is literally two souls falling in love. Nothing to do with appearance, education, gender, etc.
I just know Tencent is rubbing their greedy hands and laughing to the bank with this drama. They released another BTS exclusive clip ONLY for those with 1 YEAR SVIP subscription to Tencent. Thankfully, someone shared the clip on XHS.

7.2 at this point on Douban is a miracle LOL. It is "unfair" because most people there agree it should be at least an 8 but with the waves of negative ratings, it is a really stable score (and if you compare it to the other modern romance dramas that aired around the same time, Filter's review positive reception is the top on C-platforms). Weibo score though went up to 8.6 so at least on there, the rating increased. Tencent also doesn't seem to care much about this drama compared to their other in-house productions so this drama achieving what it did and continues to achieve is already a great feat.
MDL rating wise, it is whatever at this point because people here rated this drama at 7.8-7.9 at one point. 💀 I know there are people bombing the reviews on other sites too but well, some people/teams have money and time to spend.
the comments on youtube and tiktok are so frustrating! saying the ML is despicable and shallow, only loves based…
TikTok have bad reads on drama/animation mediums in general. I checked on TikTok for anime related analysis sometimes and half the time they just reiterate the same wrong information and when someone else provide proof from the anime/manga that states otherwise, no one wants to admit they were wrong. It is also the inability to notice details because tbh, since episode 1, we already have hints that TQ is not a "jerk" from his eye condition, him leaving the book/make-up to SCC/stranger who was having a hard time, to his flashback of SCC, etc.
It is also a patience thing. Unfortunately, short form medium is now a trend, so a lot of people no longer has the patience for character development or waiting until later for more character/plot reveal. It is almost like you have to serve everything up by episode 1 or else people will drop it thinking the characters in episode 1 = characters in the final episode.
Ngl I don't expect viewers outside of China to "get" this drama in mass just based on the type of romance dramas they rate highly here (which have been torn apart on C-platforms). It is great if more people on international platform finds this gem and comes to love it, but it is whatever because C-platforms love this drama and that is the most important thing. This drama is boosting all of the cast's careers.
Filter's Weibo reportWith 213 trending topics on the main list and 268 in entertainment, discussions have skyrocketed…
Nice! And Douban raters for this drama also reached over 161,000+ which is super impressive. The audience for this drama is engaged to the point that they are willing to rate this drama.
This is so refreshing. One of the thing I hate in c drama/novel when they make most of the characters as bullies…
Yes! I think those dramas have their place/audience since it can be exciting and "thrilling" to give it back to the bullies. But I also enjoy dramas like this where the characters are down to earth and not everyone is out to get the main characters. Sometimes the side characters can be just as kind.
Another thing I really like about this drama: how unexpectedly kind the characters can be.
TQ mentioned to SCC that he thinks there are more good people in the world who are willing to be accepting, and I feel like since episode 1, we see this with the side characters that we don't even know the names of.
In the reunion scene, TQ was very blunt/awkward with the way he had his convo with his 2 classmates and instead of being annoyed/talking bad about him, they just changed the topic and adjusted to him. When SCC started carrying those canned drinks for the worker, a classmate on the side praised her and whispered wow she is amazing. When SCC admitted that she actually doesn't have a job yet, her classmates changed the topic instead of making fun of her.
In the after work drinking scene, when SCC lifted up TQ with no problem, the restaurant owner praised SCC's strength when she left.
There are many more examples, but I like how throughout this drama, we see scenes of just normal people having social awareness and that kindness does exist, even when our main characters don't see or hear the praise. SCC was shown to be bullied by a group of boys when she was young for her strength and though she later used that physical strength to get into college, I do think that is a sore spot for her. So it is nice to see that in other people's eyes, that strength she used to be bullied for is an aspect of admiration for many people, especially for TQ.
