So funny!!!

I really liked this movie. It wasn't super complicated or thought provoking but what it lacked in substance it made up for with style. Park Seo Joon is a favorite of mine. The more I watch of him the more versatile his acting seems. Kang Ha Neul is new to me so I'll be looking for more of his works. The friendship between the main characters is what makes this movie awesome. The chemistry between them is on par with Gong Yoo and Lee Dong Wook in Goblin. The fist bump had me rolling. They hit on some very deep dark problems but didn't really explore them. But that wasn't really the point of the movie. I don't really remember any of the music so it wasn't really great or really bad. Truthfully, the osts in general rarely stick in my memory. It's a great movie for a good laugh and good fighting. I'll probably re watch it later when I need a laugh.

If at any point you find yourself thinking during this show, you need to step back and stop it. This show isn't for any type of thought. At no point should you try to find meaning or ponder good and evil, light and dark and it's impact on our lives. If you feel this drama is leading you into a deeper path, you are dead wrong (See what I did there?). It is best to watch it with out a thought in your head and in that way it is truly entertaining.

The story had such potential. The idea that a college student and his ghost girlfriend help with supernatural problems sounds very interesting. And at first it was. I liked the meet cue between the ML and FL. It was fun with a hint of scare and a bit of action, what's not to like? But instead of continuing with this main theme it gets lost somewhere in the telling of the personal story. It would have been much better if they had been able to integrate the ghost fighting in with the personal stories better. Yes, they did have an evil spirit that connected everyone but it felt like two different shows to me. Someone else said the pacing seemed off a little and I agree with thought completely. It really wasn't that scary either, which is good for me. I don't do true 'horror'. There are some jump scares and at first the ghosts are creepy but that gets old quickly because they all looked and moved exactly the same. I often got bored with in some of the episodes but not enough to drop it. The story kept going just enough to keep me interested overall.

The acting was decent. I really liked the two goofy friends who are a bit over the top but it felt like it fit to me. Kang Ki Young, who plays Choi Cheon Sang, really does this kind of character well. The main couple did a good job. Taecyeon had that cool, outcast, badboy with a heart of gold part down pat. And I liked how Kim So Hyun played the sassy sidekick. None of the characters had any depth and depth wasn't needed.

The beauty of this show was in its lack of depth. Don't ask questions, just accept it and you will be entertained.

Entertaining and a little Goofy

So, the other reviews that I've read are pretty spot on. The comparison to Pirates of the Caribbean holds true if you are talking about the later movies. This is very goofy but it made me laugh throughout. The CGI is just so bad it is good. It fit with the completely goofy parts. The cast was great, love the main leads. She's a strong character which I like. He's the biggest goof ball. I wish they had made him a little more serious and he had more fight scenes with the female lead. I'm a sucker for flirty fighting (see Legend of Fuyua). Some one else mentioned the slow motion fight scene in the beginning, it was about to get annoying until ML avoided the sword Matrix style and pulled his own sword up out of the puddle. That was super cool. So, I appreciated the slow motion after that, especially since the rest of the fight scenes were a little hard to keep up with. The romance felt like it was thrown in as an after thought. Like someone said "Oh yeah, the leads are good looking and we need a little romance, let's put em add this." It would have been better if it was left out entirely or if it had been developed slowly throughout. It doesn't have to be a main focus just not that awkward. But the best character was the whale. I cheered for the her the most. She was the heroine of the movie. The music was ok. It did what it was supposed to do but it didn't leave a memorable impression.

If you are looking for a cute action film that will make you laugh this is a good one. Its worth the 2 hr investment.

Sweet First Love

This show is so great! It's a true romantic comedy, endearing and funny. I got butterflies and laughed hysterically. It is truly a great show and I don't know why I waited so long to watch it. The story is unique in that it is not so overly dramatic that you get heartburn but adds just enough conflict to hold your curiosity. The cliches are heavy but let's be honest, we all love the cliches or we wouldn't watch rom-coms. The cliches are slightly different in this one because they approach it from a light-hearted and funny perspective without being stupid silly. It has silly moments and a bit of ridiculousness but it fits.

The cast is what makes the plot work. The ML was amazing as Louis. He was so endearing and charming as an overgrown puppy. Even when he's being completely and cluelessly selfish, he is charming. (100 Days My Prince, take note!) He was blunt without being mean or bratty which is somewhat hard to act without being annoying. He was by far my favorite. The FL was a good counterpart to the ML. She played her part well and I liked her character. The chemistry between them was so believable, I got all goosepimply when they had there first kiss. It was so sweet and innocent. The supporting cast was good too but the main leads were what made the show.

The music is one of the few that I remember enjoying. It was fun and fit all the scenes.

In general, it was a sweet story of innocent first love without all the angst and stupidity of teenage drama. It is a lovely story and perfect for a dreary day to lift your spirits.

Came for the story, stayed for Jang Hyuk

Overall this is a cute show. The best part about it is the food and, most importantly, Jang Hyuk. First the food, it made me want Chinese food all the time. I love shows that are based on food (Dating in the Kitchen is highly recommended). But the highlight is Jang Hyuk. Let me just say the FL is a fool!! Who wouldn't love a bad a$$ like that? This was the first time I've watched any of his works and now I'll search out a lot more. He does most of his own stunts which is extremely cool and he's so attractive. He does have an odd laugh and sometimes he's over the top but overall he's one of my current favorite actors.

The plot sounds really interesting and entertaining. Unfortunately, it's largely forgettable. I finished watching this show a few days ago and the only thing that sticks out is my confusion over why the FL would chose the ML. The chemistry between the two didn't happen until the last part of the show. But she was pining away for that man at the beginning. Also Jang Hyuk's character was a stand out. Other than her lack of judgement, the FL was good. Her smile and attitude were bright and easy going. I can understand why both men would like her. The supporting cast was great, very entertaining. But have I mentioned Jang Hyuk, yet? In the end, Jang Hyuk and his band of thugs are what carried the show.

I do recommend it but it isn't a high priority show. It's funny and entertaining but not to memorable.

The story doesn't sound like it would be that interesting. A look at office life, big whoop! But it's a small taste of the characters lives. It's like we've been given a peek into a couple years of their lives. The plot twist in this drama is definitely different than in any of the kdramas I've seen so far. "Plot twist?", you say. Yes there is a bit of a plot twist and it's pretty cool. One of the rubrics that I always use to determine if a drama is going to be good is "does it have a good ending?". The answer to that question my friends is yes. Things get wrapped up nicely and you are left feeling like you watched a complete story without the post drama hangover wondering where you made the wrong life choices and would you do it again. This drama isn't necessarily binge-able. Of course, you can watch it however you want but I found it frustrating and draggy to binge. (I personally don't know how to watch Korean and Chinese dramas without binge watching them.)

The acting and cast are some of the most SOLID I've watched as a whole so far. Lee Sung Min as Oh Sang Sik is the star. At first, I didn't know how to take him. Was he going to be a jerk and villian that I hate or a decent boss that you love? Lee Sung Min really gave this character so much depth and feeling. He's the it in this drama both the actor and the character. Im Si Wan was great as the nervous newbie trying to make it in a new world where you have to fake it until you make it. Siwan's acting isn't as strong as Lee Sung Min. But he's cute and he held his own for the most part. The rest of the new employees were so good. My favorite character of course is Han Suk Yool. How do you not love that dude.

The music really made this story exciting. It's not a soundtrack I'd put on my playlist. But without the music the story would have been very boring. The music really helped you feel the mood and that's the point of soundtracks.

Watch it!! You'll love it.

This is a good one. The story, the acting, and the music are all enjoyable. The story isn't new but it's mostly executed well. The main actors are fantastic but the supporting cast was a bit lackluster even without comparing to the main cast. Usually, the music doesn't stand out to me. There's been about four dramas that I've looked for the music and want it on my playlist. The opening and closing song in this are in that category.

Now the in depth review.

The story isn't new, as I've said. There are the expected plot lines but let's face it David and Goliath stories with revenge thrown in are tried and true classics that everyone enjoys watching. The start of this drama is great, the first half is setting the stage and introducing the characters, which was interesting to watch how the hero and heroine were connected and their tragic backstory. It was surprising to me to see how fast the ML and FL fell in love. This is not a slow burn romance. It made the story slightly better for me since there wasn't any angsty love thrown in amidst all the revenge and justice being served. That was a nice change of pace from some of the other dramas I've watched recently. The weakest part for me was the ending court room scene. I felt like that was a hot mess. I don't know much about the South Korean legal system but it can't be that the judge starts interrogating the witnesses. And why wouldn't the judge recuse herself or have a forced recusal? It just gave me a headache, my suspension of disbelief completely left the courtroom.

The acting by the main leads is great if melodramatic at times. Some of the intensity made me think about when the director says cut and they have to relax after the scene. So, it took me out of the drama a bit. This is the first time I've watched Lee Joon Gi. At first, I just didn't get why everyone was all about this dude. But then his intense gaze happened and he started to pull me around but what clenched my interest was the fight scenes. Dude is a great fighter and knowing he does his own stunts makes it so much better. I really liked Seo Ye Ji. She is beautiful and had an intensity to her blank face that alot of actresses lack. Her stare says so much even if her face is passive. Lee Hye Young. What a brilliant and deliciously evil portrayal! This woman can do evil. I absolutely love to hate her characters. The supporting cast was lackluster. Choi Mon Soo portrayed Ahn Oh Joo way over the top. I hated watching him and hearing his voice. The only thing I liked about him was the last scene that he was in. He did crazy well.

The music is great. I loved the song at the end!! It's bad assery added to the drama.

I definitely recommend this to those who like crime and revenge dramas. The action was a lot of fun too.

This is good but not great. The story is interesting enough, serial killer dramas are always interesting. Examining what makes people good or bad and why some people kill and how serial killers are made is something society in general is interested in. My issue isn't so much with the story or the acting, but the justification of the serial killers. (And there seemed to be an inordinate amount of serial killers around these people.) It felt as if we were being lead to have pity and understanding for the bad guys. The question of whether serial killers are born or made was asked at a basic level. They could have gone a lot creepier. But because it didn't go darker it made it a little easier to watch but possibly a smidge less interesting. It was a bit boring to me in places and didn't necessarily keep me desperate for more. But it was engaging.

The acting was a mixed bag. Seo In Guk did a great job of portraying realistic growth. His character is cold, intelligent, and brutally arrogant. The love story is very small but it seems an important part to the development of the ML's character. At first, the one-sided love of the FL is a little painful and a lot awkward. It's obvious that Lee Hyun has no feelings for Cha Ji An. I wasn't sure how it was going to develop but before I knew it I believed in the romantic relationship. Jang Na Ra did fine as Cha Ji An, she didn't blow it out of the water but she didn't stink up the joint either. Ironically, the creepiest and best portrayal for me was D.O. as Lee Jun Yung. I've only seen him in 100 Days My Prince and I hated it. But this was the perfect role for his stoic and handsome face. He was so creepy and completely believable as a psychopath. Choi Won Young's character is more pathetic and way less scary than D.O.'s which is a bit of a bummer. I'm not sure if that was a director's decision or the actor's choice. Between the two, I preferred D.O.'s characterization. Choi Won Young's facial expressions had me rolling and I don't think I was supposed to be laughing.

Music was meh. I don't remember it and I just watched it so neither good nor bad.

People are hating on the ending but it seemed like they were leaving it open for a second season. But since there hasn't been one yet, it feels like a nod to the end of Silence of the Lambs but less creepy. The ending wasn't really a problem for me; it seemed to suite the attitude of the show in general towards the bad guys.

It was enjoyable and I don't regret watching it but it isn't one that you have to go watch right now.

The most frustrating ML I've watched so far!!!!!

I'm giving this a low rating because I HATE the ML!!!! I'm only 4 episodes in and I want some one punch that SOB right now. Why is everyone giving into all his demands and protecting him from all the consequences? I was expecting more of a fighting spirit in the FL and so far I'm completely disappointed. If some character development doesn't happen soon I'll have to quit watching and move on. I started this show because I was expecting a little hearted historical romantic comedy with cute leads. The clichés are all there and that's fine, that's expected. If the writers and director meant for this first part to be cute and funny, it falls woefully short.

So far, the music isn't anything memorable. The only thing I like right now is the scenery and the support cast.
I'll edit if it gets any better.

This is a good one if you are not looking to binge watch a show but want a good romantic xanxia style drama that you can put down and pick up with ease. The story is good but not very original, which frankly I don't always want new and different. It's like a comfortable pair of shoes. You know what you are going to get and it's comfortable. I did feel like it really dragged at a lot of places and then all of a sudden something major happens. So, instead of spending a lot of time on something that really didn't further the story they should have focused on how that major event took place, how the feelings developed, etc. The comparison to Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (TMPB) and Three Lives Three Worlds (3L3W) is only fair in that it's part of the same world. So, there will be some things that remind you of both dramas. It is not a remake of either one but it is sophomoric.

The cast was decent. There's a lot of strange comments about the Male lead not be good-looking enough, but I'm like what about his acting. Well, I'll tell you, he was great. He was cold and aloof but turned on the heat a few times. But mostly he was very serious like the God of War would be. The female lead is stunning, so it made it hard to truly evaluate her acting. But she did a good job of portraying the growth and maturity of Ling Xi. But the second couple was what I really looked forward to watching. They were great together. And I ended up loving them the most.

I hated the music. It was boring and annoying.

Overall, I love xanxia & wuxia style dramas, even though this didn't deliver much in martial arts the fantasy and love story were enough to entertain me for a while. It's not my favorite but I'm glad I finished it. I might even edit the review later on when I've had time to think over the show.
