I'm confused by the book. Seems like nobody won the competition and no one is king. I really have to go back and read over those chapters.

Maybe the special chapters will tell me more. I kind of hated the way the book ended. What happened to Khanin's love for Emmaly and his vow to help the people?

Pilates helps, but genetics is just the luck of the draw. 😮

Since you read the novel you already know why. I finally broke down and read to the end today but haven't started the special chapters.

Speaking from my vast experience as a woman of grandma age if not actually a grandma, some grandpas are still hot and some are not. When you get old being in shape and genetics counts for a lot. 😉

This board is much more negative than a lot of other places that review the show.

There is a reason that TNP is number one in 15 countries plus Thailand.

For the most part the negative reviews are from haters. You can always tell a real review from a hater review because a real review will tell you what plot points they don't like, what they think was wrong with the writing, with the acting, with the characters.

If all they say is we hate Zeenunew, we hate royalty based shows, we think the writers suck that's not a real review.

And if you already don't like the genre and you don't like the actors then why would you start watching it in the first place?

It's not perfect. And if you hate yourself enough to read my very long review of the NC scenes comparing TNP and Cutie Pie, you'll see that I don't say positive things about everything.

You’re assuming that he had the ability to get a phone with any SIM card that he wanted. I think his ability to post on Facebook, make a phone call, or enter a chat was severely limited.

Feminine gay men are still men. Khanin is not trying to be a princess.

And FWIW I think in the end Khanin is the only one who has any diplomatic skills at all, and that includes the current king and all of the princes that are up for replacing the king.

Royalty has produced a rot and a distance from the common man. And you can't rule unless you understand their needs.

All of the people who really understand the needs of the people in this series are Charin, Khanin, Thatdanai and Chakri. and I think Tharin is willing to learn. He's the most compassionate out of all the first generation princes. Ramil and Ava are probably trainable too, but without the next generation producing any heirs this series is probably the last prince rather than the next prince.

Might be time for democracy. 🙂

Aof said the budget for TNP was approaching nine figures so that's 100 million baht or almost 3 million.

Had to look it up because it's been a long time since I saw the old promos to the series.

Prices in Thailand must be a lot cheaper than in the US. There are TV series in the US that cost that much to produce one episode.

And stars like NuNew and Zee would be making $1 million an episode each.

I saw Cutie Pie and I think the script writing for TNP is three times better. There are a lot of inconsistencies in Cutie Pie and the series was carried with the natural chemistry between Zee and NuNew.

I think it's a lot higher. 30 million baht is less than $1 million.

My take on it having only seen the series and not read the book is that first, Tharin was subject to the most abuse by the king compared to the other three princes because he's actually his son. And secondly, Tharin never thought he was going to have an opportunity to be king because he didn't have a son.

Also the abuse that he suffered made him into someone who felt he had absolutely no agency even where he did.

He never did anything about the mining situation because he didn't think he had the power to do it.

Anyway it's not surprising to me that he also didn't think he had the power to be king even after Khanin showed up.

When Khanin said he wasn't interested in taking part in the competition his father never tried to coax him to reconsider. And I honestly don't know if he wanted to be king until he saw his son get energized about actually doing something to help the Assavadevathins.

First of all both Charan and Chakri are training him. Charan in history, fencing and archery. And Chakri in history. They are both experts in their subject matter. And Charan is the best fencer in the country. In addition because Charan keeps his expertise secret the other two competitors have no idea the kind of training that Khanin is getting.

They use the mine situation as a catalyst for Khanin to start taking all of this seriously.

Don't forget there's a lot of abuse, characters with extreme mental health issues and PTSD from the way they've been treated throughout their lives in Emmaly.

Tharin has admitted because of the way he was raised that he didn't feel he had any power, even though in reality he did.

Anyway it makes sense for Tharin to leave the training to the people who are best equipped to give it to Khanin.

You've obviously never met anyone who has dementia then.

I didn't read the book but plan to as soon as the series is over.

But from the way it was promoted it's the story of a college-age boy who was unknowingly raised to be a prince and take part in a competition that would result in his father becoming the next king should he be successful.

During the many press conferences before the series was released Zee said that the character of Charan took up much less space in the book and they made the role larger to accommodate Zeenunew.

So while there is more of a role for Charan In the series than there was in the book the primary plot point is still the competition and the results.

Good. We need to see Charan not stressed TF out every time they have sex

I'm enjoying it too. I noticed after episode 7 that the ads have died off. Hopefully it stays that way.

The protest song sounded like a lot of protest songs I've heard in the past. I went to enough protests in the 1960s and 1970s. I don't have a problem with people criticizing it because at least it's a real opinion. One I don't agree with.

I haven't read the book but my take on it is that Ramil isn't morally bankrupt like his father and grandfather.

He was pretty decent to Khanin on their bike riding cave trip.

And he does realize the effect his father's violence has had on him and seemed to be letting up on Paytai last we saw him.

The rot doesn't seem to have seeped too far down beyond the king. Obviously Rachata is evil and maybe Wasin. Chana is an unknown quantity and Tharin is most likely a good guy brow beaten by his father.

He only did it because he was in danger and his prior existence was gone. His house was burned to the ground and he thinks his father is dead. He doesn't even learn that he's still alive until episode 10.

His entire life is sort of in limbo. The place he feels safe is gone and here he is in the Royal Palace filled with pit vipers.

It's also the reason he has been clinging to Charan even before there was romance. Charan was he only human he could trust.

The mining issue was the catalyst for him to start caring about the people of Emmaly.
