I always wonder why so many Korean celebrities don't seem to date. Maybe this is the reason. Of course they could be dating and keeping it well under wraps, but with a chance of having your private business in the headlines like this I wouldn't want to come near a person outside of work for any reason. Too much to lose!
I've always felt that keeping secrets from your kids is a very bad idea. If this young actress had been aware of what her great grandfather had done she might have been able to speak of him in a very different way or not mention him at all.
Nobody can be blamed for the actions of another person, even if they are one's own family. But a person cannot respond appropriately if they don't even know what that person has done. I feel really sorry for her to be caught in this situation because of a lack of knowledge. It must be heartbreaking to discover that a person you looked up to was actually completely awful.
I don't blame her for apologizing for what he did. Is it required that she apologize for him? I don't know, but if it were me I'd want to just to show my own grief at the harm that was caused by a member of my own family.
Who cares? We get to watch the news seeing people do terrible things all day long. People who do good things should…
Agree. Donations often increase when someone famous donates.
It's funny because when celebrities spotlight a charity people complain that they didn't donate. If they donate, people complain that it wasn't enough. When disasters happen people complain if celebrities stay silent, though they might have quietly donated. No matter what they do people are going to criticize.
Since it's a no-win situation anyway I'm happy to see people donating to a good cause and publicizing it. If the celebrity gets PR, as you said, who cares? (Well obviously some do care!) As long as people who need help get it, it's a no brainer to me.
Maybe to raise awareness or motivate people or to let their fans know or simply for tax?! Whatever the reason…
This is true. I've read that when famous people donate to charities contributions can increase as a result. If I were famous I'd absolutely donate publicly even if it meant people would accuse me as the original commenter just did. The good results for people who need help would be worth it.
I went to find out what they’re talking about. And there it was, just brief - ep. 14, 24:26 mark. It’s an…
Thank you, Desereiii. As I said, I don't follow him, but I still hear about him as he has such a huge fan base. I'd never heard anything bad about him at all, only good things. Since this discussion from a year ago I have seen so many false accusations and fan wars about different actors and learned to what lengths some people will go in support of their personal favorites even if it means fabricating evidence. Very disturbing.
I wanted to add the full timeline here because the article is mostly accurate about what happened after Hangout…
Thank you for the detailed explanation and the work you put into gathering this information. Being a shy person in many circumstances myself I can empathize with him. But even if I couldn't I can't imagine a reason why this had to become such a huge controversy. It's one day in his life. Why are people so ready to attack him or any actor for things that don't directly relate to his acting in dramas? I don't get the hate so many people have towards celebrities for such minor things.
Apparently:- The accusations against Ji Soo were never officially recognized as true by any court.- There was…
"This cultural dynamic is difficult to understand (and accept) from a Western perspective, where the hierarchy of moral gravity is very different. But in South Korea, it strongly shapes how scandals are handled and how careers recover. That’s why Ji Soo’s situation is treated much more harshly socially, despite the lack of any legal conviction. Sadly."
When I read your comment my brain was kind of frying until I came to this part. It really is difficult to understand another country's culture if you haven't been raised in it. What can seem very wrong to me, as a westerner, may not seem very wrong to people from another culture and vice versa. Still it is sad, as you say, that some people can make a comeback from convicted crimes and others have to leave the country even when there's been no conviction.
