Yes, Prince Han is his biological father. For that part, the Imperial guard was on his own. He plotted and carried out a scheme with the dying consort to first frame Crown Prince so as to set Prince Han up as the actual accomplice to bring down Crown Prince.

Why he did that? Guess he wanted to draw Prince Han's attention. Owing to him being an illegitimate child, Prince Han didn't acknowledge him openly in the past. Also, because of the father's wrongdoing towards his mother, he's also seeking revenge on Prince Han.

hi Lori, yes, that incident is due to a little dose of food poisoning, but it had such a big effect on him as to cough up blood while the wifey is still ok despite her self poisoning over a longer period... Anyway, my initial question and thoughts weren't on that incident. I was thinking out loud on whether this is based on novel or history. If it's not an adaptation of novel, then it's history. And that to me is somewhat my prep to not expect too much of a HEA ahead to avoid disappointment... The other historical drama years back had such a tragic ending

Well, in Wikipedia, Emperor Xuande alias Zhu Zhanji is recorded to have died from illness. If it's not, then perhaps there are more accurate recordings in China history.

As seen on air, he's coughing out blood and that means he's weak in health. In olden days, this kind of illness is almost incurable (of course, this doesn't apply to wuxia or fantasy dramas).

Also, based on history, his reign is only 10 yrs due to death from illness.

I'm with you on this. I'm a fanatic for May-Dec love and i like ML but this one is somewhat a push off for me and interests dropped after #2. Just waiting for #40.

to watch this drama, one needs to pay attention to its dialogue every second, and to read between the lines too.
But LOL, the subs aren't helping any non Chinese speaking viewers at all.

#1 ML married 2FL even though he knows she faked her total paralysis from waist down.
#2 ML was indebted to Aunt Jing for her adoption after his parents died.
#3 ML though inwardly hurt and saddened by Aunt Jing's threats, he went through the ordeal.
#4 @17: they couldn't prove 2FL faked her paralysis, but they're aware of her intentionally stopping treatment to prevent recovery.
#5 ML gave 2FL the wedding she longed for but didn't consummate or shower her with love. He knew that if he didn't, both 2FL, Aunt Jing and Lance would not give him up.
#6 After the wedding, ML knowing Lance is uptight with his mom's favoritism towards him and her intention to transfer shares to him, he intentionally reminded Lance of Tian Ji's management in future after the transfer so as to irate him, thus causing him to become estranged with his mom & sis.
#7 Lance felt hurt & neglected at home when his mom & sis had eyes for ML only.
#8 2FL mom realized her wrongdoings only when her spiteful son turned against her and after he "kidnapped" his sis...

hv seen much worse TW soapy dramas than this. My watching process is to go straight to the end and then move from the start and also read viewers' comments which were not encouraging at all.

Because it's only 20 eps and i like the main CP visuals, i ploughed on. I'm glad i didn't give up this drama. Else, i won't know why...

haha, there are much more worse TW soapy drama than this. Perhaps some parts have been snipped off during editing, probably to make it a 20 eps series But thank goodness, this is only 20 ep!
