Just stopping by to say that the rumor is that HunanTV’s license for this drama expires in March/April. So we can expect it to air some time after that. 😅
What a GREAT project Xiao Zhan chose. I read that the director and producer and the whole team is top notch with great works under their belts. This is the kind of drama that will get critical acclaim and with Xiao Zhan’s incredible acting this is gonna be a hit for sure. Can’t wait!
Welp. Just finished episodes 20 & 21. Xiao Zhan does it again! Just when you think he can’t outdo himself, he surprises you with another brilliant performance. Episodes 18-21 have been my favorites of the drama so far. Brilliant writing. Brilliant screenplay. Brilliant action scenes. And of course brilliant acting. Gu Yiye continues to command the best scenes of the drama. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s episodes.
I finished episodes 18 & 19. And I won’t spoil anything but I want to talk about Xiao Zhan’s acting. It amazes me how much he has improved in so little time. His acting improves with every new character he breathes life into. Sometimes people tell me I’m biased but honestly speaking, I will not follow an actor for his pretty face. He has to capture my heart with his characters and Xiao Zhan does that. I’m not someone who’s easily pleased. The actors I’ve followed my entire life are actors like Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Meryl Streep. And tho I don’t yet put Xiao Zhan at the same level as these acting Titans with decades of works, I think he holds his own. I really cannot wait to see what he has in store for us with The Longest Promise because every critic that has seen ADLAD claims that he has improved by leaps and bounds. And if he’s already THIS GOOD with Gu Yiye, I can’t imagine how much more he’s improved. What an actor!
Just finished episodes 16 & 17 and I loved them. Especially 17. The story is finally picking up. The soldiers…
Gu Yiye becoming sergeant was also a great development and his friendship with Zhang Fei is my favorite. There was so much foreshadowing in their scenes. Their brotherhood is gonna make me cry. I just know Xiao Zhan is going to be incredible in these upcoming episodes. I’m so excited.
Just finished episodes 16 & 17 and I loved them. Especially 17. The story is finally picking up. The soldiers are finally going to war. And I’m so happy with the increase of Gu Yiye scenes. I’m loving his character development. And how big his heart is. He’s showing what it means to not only be a good soldier but a good man. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s episodes! 🤗
GL wasn’t mean to be the lead originally tho. Gu Yiye was. That’s why most of GYY scenes are centered around…
I get what you’re saying. But what I’m trying to explain is that Xiao Zhan signed on to both of these dramas back in 2019. He may not have capital backing but he has proved that he brings the audience and he brings the ratings. And that if you treat him like Ace did, you won’t reap the benefits. He’s in a way better position now more than ever. Look at The Longest Promise. Tencent changed the story to make the focus on the male lead. They have made it clear that he has top billing. And that the story centers around him.

Why would the lead male shoot less scenes than the non-lead male? I was on Weibo and Twitter when the drama was first announced. It turned into a complete shit show. The rumor was that investors were promised Xiao Zhan as lead so when the conference came about and HJY showed up instead of Xiao Zhan, there was a huge uproar. So many people were liking and following the drama supertopic until IQiyi showed their hand. The likes and followers decreased drastically right after. Xiao Zhan didn’t even post about the drama when the conference was held back in July. I’m guessing he and IQiyi came to a compromise bc he was able to get co male lead when he originally signed up for top billing. Which is why he’s promoting now. Also explains why iqiyi isn’t promoting the drama like they should. And why it aired suddenly. They honestly messed up. But despite everything they did Xiao Zhan is being praised by critics and netizens.

They had two directors. One that focused on GYY and one that did scenes for GL. So they did some underhanded shit. But I don’t know why they wrote GL with such a bad storyline bc he’s been useless so far and it’s so annoying.
The 180 that JNZ did in episodes 14-15 really bugs me. First with GYY and then with her dad. I get that he got…
GL wasn’t mean to be the lead originally tho. Gu Yiye was. That’s why most of GYY scenes are centered around the military. And why he had those 2 girls fighting over his affection. And why it seems like so many of his scenes were cut. That’s bc they were. Xiao Zhan filmed for 120 days compared to HJY’s 90 days. They’re obviously trying to treat GL as the lead. Xiao Zhan had to fight back for his billing and now has equal with HJY. But the cut scenes were never recovered. Which sucks bc GYY is the best part of the drama.
