I'm not sure about her staying. Historically, the king gets deposed and dies aged 30, so it cannot be too far in the future. The book that he writes (which is the book she had on the plane), says 'if you read this in the future, my love, I hope you'll come back to me', so technically it means that he completed the book after she had already left for the future. It's unlikely, but I actually hope the king comes with her to the future after getting deposed. The most she could be in that time is maybe a concubine, but even that is far-fetched. Then as you said, there's her dad. Though I feel like perhaps he knows more then we realise, it was him who asked to bring the book back and had her learn all those ancient recipes from old books. Hmm, we'll find out at some point, let's hope our hearts won't get broken...

I know that FL is just trying to survive, but they're making it seem like it's just not such a big deal she's stranded there after she becomes Royal Chef. For the past 2-3 episodes her fear and disbelief has entirely disappeared, and the only moment we witness a tiny moment of weakness is when she sits on her porch and thinks of her dad. Perhaps also when she gets the purse and realises the book is gone. But she knows the evil 4th consort is recorded as the most cunning in history, yet she thinks it's a good idea to provoke her? It's like she suddenly lost all common sense, there are assassins (she witnessed that first hand), people got poisoned all the time back then, and everyone is out for her head and she has to risk her life time and time again, yet she's all smiley sunshine and rainbows and is obviously falling for the king who's STILL a tyrant. And I said 'It's like ML's agony all but disappeared', we know it's still there, but it has taken the backseat way too easily all of sudden. As I said, the show is entertaining enough, just shallow. Look, I'm not here to argue or anything, it's just my opinion. 12 episodes for a good historical drama is too short, it used to be 24, then got to 20, then 16, and now it's just not enough screen time.

Lee Chae Min is decent, but he doesn't hold a candle to Jun Ho in 'Red Sleeve'.

Ah, and I'm not even going to go into the various things that don't make sense here history wise, or how she magically reproduces French (Haute) Cuisine despite the lack of some ingredients or equipment (f.e. Macarons lol) and the over the top romcom clichés, as I'll attest that to the comedy aspect.

I love cooking shows, so i'm enjoying this, but I find it a bit shallow. There's just really not a lot of substance to the characters and the plot. My fav cooking drama is 'Wok of Love', and even though we cannot compare the two as they are very different, I just feel like something is missing here. Both shows don't have a particularly mind-blowing plot, but compared to Wok Of Love, I stopped having any interest in the characters, their struggles, feelings, motivation, after episode 2. The first two episodes were actually really great, but it's like the FL's will to fight back and the ML's agony have all but disappeared. I don't mind the thriving romance, I just wish they'd give us a bit more insight. Unfortunately that seems to be the trend with webtoons and web novels, though. Not enough depth. :(

I agree it would be nice to have some variety in dishes, but this is not a random cooking show, it's a fantasy drama whose female lead was trained in Korea and France/Europe, so it makes sense that she would cook dishes from those cultures. European cuisine is popular in SK, which is why to train to be come a 'western' chef, many Koreans chose to study cooking in Europe or the US. There are of course mexican, Indian or Oriental restaurants in Seoul, but they're not as popular (yet). I think there's no point in getting upset over this, it's just a trend, and it might shift at some point.

I seem to be in the minority, but I am rooting for Kim Jae Won and I really wish him the best in such an important ML role. Fighting!

I only remember him from 'King The Land', and I thought he did very well in that role. Then again, it wasn't a very versatile role, but I still had an instant crush, he was such a green flag in that one haha So lets wait and see, he might just surprise us! And Kim Go Eun is such a veteran actress, she might bring out his best acting!

I'm having a hard time rating this drama. I know it's still ongoing, but my currently watching score would be a 6.5. Like, it's funny enough to pass the time, but it's also really really shallow and INCREDIBLY cheesy. I feel like webtoons and their adaption these days have no depth at all. There is no logic whatsoever in the 'mystery' subplots, or the history of the characters or things like the fire and the kidnapping, and while it doesn't have to make sense all the time, it takes away from the enjoyment for me. I can overlook lack of depth in manga because there's just not enough room to add all that information and development, but for a drama it has to have a little more substance. If you're in the mood for something very light hearted and teen-romance, this could still be enjoyable though.

ikr?? omg I remember, when I watched it for the first time, I was in my mid twenties and thought So Ji Sub was handsome but not really 'my type'. Now I'm 35 (closer to what their age was when this came out) and I think he's so so hot. Actually I love the three guys dynamic, Ji Woong 'cutie', Joon Sung 'pretty' and Young Ho 'sexy' lol

Agree, 2015 was also the year when we FINALLY got some nice kisses and it's just been progressing from there. Romance dramas from 2013 or before are just 'dead fish' kisses (with exception of Queen In Hyuns man f.e.). We've come a long way lol

You're entitled to find it boring or the actors unattractive, but that is really very subjective now, isn't it? I personally think both of the leads are very attractive, both appearance and personality wise. I must've watched it more than 10 times in the past decade, it always manages to cheer me up. Unfortunately I have to say that the subtitles on Netflix for this are really lacking (as is the case with many other shows I rewatched there), compared to the fansubs back in the day (I watched it so many times I almost know them by heart). It takes away the charm of a lot of the banter and wordplay presented in the show. More importantly even, facts are disregarded and the plot distorted, because the person translating apparently only reads the script instead of watching the show! For instance, in episode 7, Min Jun's baby sitter is in the hospital, we know she's been subject of domestic violence. Now, in several phone calls between Joo Eun and her friend, Hyun Woo calls her 'Min Jun's halmoni/grandmother' in Korean. But on netflix translation, Hyun Woo says 'my mother in law', which is absolutely not true!! They have no family relation to each other, she is just a baby-sitter to Min Jun. People must be so confused upon watching this, thinking 'why is she or her ex-husband not doing anything if her mother in law is getting beaten up by her husband?!' It's tragic, really. I know translating is not an easy job, but you should at least have the basic character dynamix down. Netflix replacing certain music and even cutting out News or television shows must be due to copyright issue, but it's so so annoying. Ok, rant end, now to the actual commentary:

It's a feel-good drama with a lot of heart and laughter, but also pain and struggles. It is true, it is more on the lighthearted side, but what in my opinion makes it stand out from the rest, is that the sad and painful moments are not trivial. Each one is carefully placed and considered, which is why I can appreciate them much more than all those mediocre dramas where they add trouble and tearjerkers, simply to make you cry, even though the story doesn't ask for it.
Oh my Venus is so much more down-to-earth and 'real', even with its chaebol world (which it luckily doesn't focus on too much) and comedy.
I whole heartedly recommend it to everyone who loves amazing chemistry, real relationships and a sentimental slice-of-life. I gave it a 9, even though now I cannot really remember why I haven't rated it higher. Maybe because it's 'only' a romcom, which shouldn't be a factor at all. Also, I have to add that my love for Chief Min almost rivals that of our three main bros. He is just the bomb! (And in the very last shot we get to see him smile, hehe)

So far I'm really enjoying it. Unfortunately I think the sister's story will be heartbreaking. Hope the comedy will still take a lead, although I do enjoy the more serious aspects of the story as well.

Have you ever stood in front of hundreds of people and cameras, and then speaking about such a heavy topic, such as the death of your ex-lover and you yourself being accused of causing their death? When everything you say may be held against you, words twisted or fluffed up for good measure? Reading prepared statements is common practice for press conferences for a good reason, his agency may have advised against answering questions as well. Her death is tragic, and hopefully it will be revealed what truly happened, if there was anyone to truly blame for. Until then, their private lives should remain private. All the hatred and scrutiny he is getting now is not better than people turning on her for her drunk driving, or other celebrities that got shamed after one mistake and consequently ended their lives. This nonsensical attack on celebrities for nothing but rumors and lies or half-truths must stop. Now he even gets criticized for appearing put together at a press conference, and he's called dishonest (btw nowhere it was proven he was wearing a wig wth)? Had he appeared completely disheveled, people would've criticized him for trying to to get pity points, so clearly, no matter what, he couldn't have done it right by the public. Everyone should really go watch Pinocchio Kdrama, perhaps that would remind them to chose their words carefully. This 'netizen' fandom sickens me.

This is by no means a fantastic drama. It's not new, innovative, or even very deep. But is it worth watching? For the most part, yes. Especially the beginning is extremely funny (in a silly way perhaps, but still funny). I usually binge-watch dramas, but this was one of the few I watched ongoing, and I think binge-watching would've made me extremely annoyed at all the characters and it was better as a weekly comedy-fix. First half was definitely better than the second, it lost its momentum and the chemistry that had made it so charming. I also hate that Kise never got what he deserved (a kick in the nuts amongst other things) and I think they would've done good in fleshing out FLs time at corporate more, perhaps meet some old colleagues and get an apology or something. Backstory of the SL and second couple would've also been interesting. I love small-town dramas, so I may come back for a rewatch without big expectations. I'll settle on a 7.5.

I am not saying her character is unrealistic, I just laid out why I personally find no enjoyment in a show so dark and with so many ill minded people, especially as it was advertised as a wholesome comfort drama. Perhaps she will find healing much later in the show, perhaps those terrible villagers will redeem themselves, and good for those that care enough to stick around until then. I gave it a chance 3 times and couldn't get past episode 5, so I'll bury it once and for all. To each their own.

Welcome to Samdal-Ri, it has comedy and some psycho characters, but there is healing and beautiful Jeju Island.

People say this is a healing comfort drama, but I'm 3 episodes in and something just really ticks me off. It's painfully slow, which would be okay if it was a poetic kinda slow, like When the Weather is fine or Lovestruck in the City. But it's just... unsettling. FL basically went from abuse at her workplace to a town where people bully her for no reason, they have no regard for someone's feelings, and again, she's just taking it and not standing up for herself. And I tried to watch it before, and remember it getting much worse with vandalism and a mystery case and people blaming it all on her. I just find no enjoyment in such a premise, considering she set off to find peace and healing. I'll try to stick it out, but the first impression isn't so great.

But isn't that the crux in the first place? She became humanized, thus she sees the world differently now. As a 'human', she feels a palette of feelings, even love, while her demonic tendencies take a backseat. I thought they made it quite clear that she didn't risk her life just for him, but for all the families of the victims who've been suffering for decades. Her compassion for humanity (Da On included) is what makes her want to stay and judge sinners in a world where justice is dead.
