Having watched the drama promo video, I'm led to the conclusion that Neo's role perfectly fits in with the direction of his acting career of the last two years. Starting from Our Times in Oct 2020, next Hu Tong, Back From the Brink, The Outcast, and now Young Babylon: it's all about masquerade. Hilariously, the promo video for Hu Tong released lately by Neo's studio is in the exact same style: https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4816829023001401 Overall, a mix of all kinds of epoque/decade & odd character costumes, wigs and silly or unflattering hairdos.
I would love to finally watch Hou Ming Hao in a plain drama of a contemporary day, wearing casual clothes and acting as an average ordinary person, relying solely on his acting skills. No masquerade any more. An actor confident in his acting abilities is all that I need to see.

Let me explain myself clearly
First of all this is MDL and the INTERNATIONAL audience here, not the Chinese broadcast distrubutor website with the info for the Chinese viewers
HERE (on MDL) , this is sb's ill intention to cause a "competition" between the three chapters, to increase the final score for chapter 3, and to ensure that Li Yin (who plays "modern" chapter) will not be associated with "propaganda" of chapter 1 or 2....
Let me tell you, Li Yin and Hou Ming Hao were both standing there arm by arm during the booting ceremony in Beijing, and no matter which one of them is in chapter 1 or chapter 3, they all participate in the SAME production, and the same "propaganda".
There is no reason to make a distinction between the actors participating in the drama and it should be evaluated as one whole thing (like it was for FMG).
If you mention Chinese websites that air the drama, I guess in the end there will be one rating for the whole drama, and it will be always evaluated there by Chinese viewers as the whole thing. Your view of the things here and there is distorted.

Faith Makes Great had all episodes about separate stories and with different cast each, and nobody split it into chapter 1, chapter 2...., chapter 40, just sick idea so what.... is this page going to just disappear later from the actor's profile page? because now it's nothing else but duplicate if we go to actors' profiles
but how come Neo doesn't appear in the trailer? he got treated by CCTV8 as insignificant support cast
CCTV6 treated him the same way in Dec 2021, both he and Lin Yi were at the same stage performing the group song but if you watch the broadcast video it seems that only Lin Yi was there, he got many camera close-ups but there is no single one clear shot of Neo, practically it was impossible to see his face in the mass of people, now this
I expected that much so I'm not even sad or angry.
Neo's poor drama choices is baneful to him (simply backfires on him) and it's one example after another but he still hasn't learnt anything from the experience. Too much of conformity in his job of an "artist" and lack of any mainstream modern dramas for a long time doesn't pay off for him AT ALL.
Perhaps he mistakes some things for patriotism, but how come his Chinese fans have been drifting away for this very reason that he doesn't meet their expectations?
How come his dramas are blocked (pretty much it's obvious that part 2 of Our Times is stuck now by censorship and adds to the pile of his unreleased dramas) or delayed endlessly (Reading Class which was suppposed to be such a "profound" theme based drama) or many of his scenes got cut out and released only partially (HT seems to be already the third drama like that after PP and FMG)?
How come that living up to the pure ideals his efforts and work get wasted and his audience cannot see him? The outflow of his old native Chinese fans is noticeable even on such a place like weibo, it's painful, he should learn the lesson finally.

I must say that I hate Neo's hairdo at the end of filming the drama. Comparing early pics from drama set and the latest photos of yesterday, the difference in his appearance is striking.
It's obvious that Neo has got much fatter within 3 months of filming, too. With that cuisine & catering they had there, it's probably no wonder... Funny thing, in one of the live broadcast (the first one) the cook from Young Babylon crew was wearing a T-shirt with Neo's drama "Back From The Brink" logo on it.

it stays the same with one page for the entire drama, if they want to watch one chapter, I cannot see any problem here
