But to answer your question, they would have never been able to have a happily ever after. She doesn't want a man with other women in his life that is her main requirement. She also wants to live a peaceful life. Also, even running , and casting, away their identities wouldn't help because he would still be considered a threat since he is the legitimate grandson and that alone makes it dangerous to be him as his uncles would still hunt them down. They would basically be on the run all their lives and while XY does want to wander and travel around, I doubt she wants a life where she has to be looking over her shoulder all the time.

She doesn't need to help him anymore at the point of the novel I'm in. But he doesn't want her to marry although keeps telling her it's her choice. She decided to leave with Nian once he decided to marry Xing Yue and when he found out that three of the five carriages thst was full of luggage were XY's he pressed her to tell him how long she should be gone and he decided 13 months and told her he would personally go get her if she didn't come back when that time came around. And there are other things he does.

2. I think I saw a clip where he tells her. I haven't reached that part in the novel yet, but he's already becoming more controlling.

Ah, so it's basically like she kept going back to that moment in the orchard, but XL was doing his magic so it pulled her from the memory?

So, XY goes to help his grandmother because she took in a bug too to extend her life, so she could live long enough to ensure Jing became the clan leader. That's when FFYY realized the woman he loved was XY and started to freak out because her "rival" is a princess who doesn't need nor want any of the material things or the prestige the clan has to offer. She starts to get desperate then because if it was a "normal" she could see why she wants Jing. (AT THIS POINT I WAS FOAMING AT THE MOUTH). Good ol' granny despite XY's efforts doesn't approve because the clan doesn't choose political sides. The next time xY vists his house again to make more pain medication, the damned wench faints and XY takes her pulse. She is pregnant and Jing looks guilty and ashamed as hell and did not refute when he was congratulated. So XY leaves and gets really sick (spits out a blood clot from her heart) once she gets home. Jing does explain what happened and they ( fiancee from hell and grandma dearest) cast a formation which drugged him and caused confusion. XY says she believes him. Obviously, there's nothing that can be done because regardless of how they feel now he is even more tightly bound to duty his duty to his family. It's really sad. She's depressed as fuck , especially after CX gets the crown because now she doesn't even have that to focus on. And he's depressed too, to the point that is causing premature aging (his hair is full of white).
