It's not the same effect at all. In this context, 'let's break up' meant she's saving her family and herself from the emotional trauma. It didn't mean she blamed him. Very different things.
Sorry but her and her parents are being dumb.Itβs not his fault that the accident happened. He was only a kid…
You gotta see it deeper. It's more than just 'blame'. It's a mix of guilt and emotional trauma. This family carried this scar for more than 20 years (it transformed their lives for the worse after all), and they needed time to resolve this internally.
Hu Xui also said she doesn't blame him. But, being with him is a constant reminder to those 20+ years of emotional knots. These 2 are totally different.
Just finished the novel. The first half was pretty good, loved everything about it. Though, the second half was definitely not the best, dragged too much in some parts. Hope the drama will improve those parts.
Esther Yu's visual totally fit her character here imo. Looking forward to the drama.
Wang Hedi could play the playful ML but I'm not sure for Meng Ziyi. Let's just wait for the drama to air and see…
imo, they are most similar to Ill Fated Consort's couple.
In terms of ruthlessness, out of the author's works, I would rank Shen Miao (this novel's MC) second place. First place would be Lu Tong from Deng Hua Xiao. That one is borderline psycho. lol
Anyhow, Malicious Empress is a good read with many memorable characters. You won't go wrong with this one.

You are not alone with the Ill Fated Consort's ending. lol
This one's ending is much better in comparison. The romance is there, but out of the author's works, romance in Rebirth of a Star General is the best imo. But I agree, romance is not the author's strongest suit.

Ill Fated Consort can be considered as the precursor of Malicious Empress. Malicious Empress was written after Ill Fated Consort after all. It got similar plot but better writing. If you liked the first one, high chance you'll like this one.
Love how natural their relationship development is. Slowly becoming comfortable around each other, unintentionally looking out for each other, small banters here and there... ahhh too cute π

I'll pick it up soon.

Hu Xiu is such a sweetheart. Always finding ways to cheer him up.
