Despite my enjoyment of JoongDunk's exceptional natural chemistry since Safehouse days, (and yes i know, it doesn't always translate as well to their characters, but its still fun to watch their attempts), it's taken sooooo long for me to finish THK. I stopped at ep3 while it was airing, decided to wait and binge instead, but then stopped again at episode 6...
I can't explain why i kept postponing for so long, maybe seeing JD as hitman / life-threatening betrayal characters subconsciously bothered me... (I can't make it make sense, I get shy at their NCs, even though they're nowhere near BossNoeul or BoatOat, clearly i need to take JD out of whatever mental box i had put them in and let them strive artistically)... Or maybe I wasn't in the mood for "fun" BLs that I'd have to silence my critical mind to enjoy...
Anyways.... when i finally continued the series today, i binged the rest of the episodes and really enjoyed it! Especially the last few episodes... it changed the flavor of the series from just another GMMTV "fun" but over-reaching plot, and gave it a tad more emotional substance.
Disclaimer - I didnt much like the last minute drama, when i was already in "ride into the sunset" mode. Regardless, still a much more enjoyable show than I initially gave it credit for, and big nod to FK's on-screen chemistry too!
These actors could teach a master class on selling attraction, intimacy and intentional NCs to the audience. Yes there were a lot of scenes for 2 episodes, but it actually sold their fbuddies to lovers origin story even better, especially because the quality makes you truly believe the characters are very much into eachother.
It was actually the best "realistic" end to the series because we got to see a little evolution of their relationship... more settled (no bickering), more in love, even more passionate. The plot was kept light - long distance issues, interested third parties and some insecurity/possessiveness - all of which actually makes sense since it's only been a year of the relationship, and they wouldn't go from red to green flags instantaneously.
