It depends a lot on the MDL viewers too. It just happens the vast majority of MDL members love mainstream, non-BL…
It's always biased as mentioned. It's really difficult for non-Chinese, non-Korean and BL dramas to be the top. That's why getting #50 ranking for Bad Buddy in MDL is already a most amazing achievement here.
Just want to share more insight on the EP 10 and the reason behind the feud between especially Pat's dad (Ming) and Pran's mum (Dissaya) based on my own personal experience.
I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to receive two scholarships for my education, and I still remembered how proud my parents were when they knew that I managed to get those scholarships, especially the first one, which I got for my high school. The second one was for my university.
But it wasn't an easy journey. Getting the scholarship is one thing (not easy to get), but maintaining it is another. I am thankful that my parents were very open-minded and not putting a lot of pressure unlike many other Asian parents (especially East Asian/Chinese parents - although more parents these days are less demanding on their children).
I still remembered how I did badly at times and how I lost 15 kg or so towards the exams in my final year of high school likely due to all the stress. In the university, the reverse happened, as I ended up gaining up to 20 kg just towards the final year because of all the stress (and probably eating to reduce that). Thankfully, over these past few years, I managed to return my weight to a stable and ideal level.
And the stress of worrying about my results hang over my mind throughout my education years, which was probably almost a decade long in total. Getting scholarship, struggling to get it, and then persevering to maintain it are really no joke.
So, even if the parents didn't openly pressure, and like my case, relatively little pressure, but the societal demands and expectations can also play a part to make the young child to undergo quite a bit of stress. I personally didn't want my parents to worry about me and my future.
Imagine then what would happen if the parents openly and fiercely exert pressure on their child (like what happened to Ming, Pat's dad).
What Pat's dad did was very wrong, but the motives behind him trying to do whatever it took to secure the scholarship for himself to make his dad proud (or satisfied) makes sense to me.
On the other hand, Dissaya (Pran's mum) desire to get the scholarship to secure for her future is also very important! It can be assumed that Pran's mum didn't come from a well-to-do family, and that's why, when she couldn't get the scholarship, it ruined her future.
University education can be cheap or expensive depending on countries. In parts of Asia, including Thailand, this could very well be on the expensive side (as contrasted to what I know like in Germany, university education is literally free even for international students). And landing many good jobs still require good university degrees, and the more prestigious the university is, the higher is the chance that one gets a good job.
Woah how did you manage to keep track of your first comment here? As usual, I love your stats updates!
Look at your notifications, and look for your first when someone replied to you. For me my first comment has no reply, but it was shortly before the one commented on.
And comments wise, if I remember correctly, here's how the comments have grown so far (not totally accurate, as I didn't take note precisely):
Before EP 1 aired (the page has been around for almost a year since it was announced): about 2k By EP 2: about 3k By EP 3: about 4k By EP 4: about 6k By EP 5: about 8k (Passed 2gether the Series) By EP 6: about 10k (Passed TharnType) By EP 7: about 11k to 12k By EP 8: about 14k to 15k (Passing Cherry Magic) By EP 9: about 19k plus (Passed The Untamed) By EP 10: about 25k plus By EP 11: at least 31k plus
Bad Buddy will likely pass The Long Ballad and Immortality as the most commented drama series (both BL and non-BL) in MDL by this weekend or so. As I mentioned before, at the beginning I only thought that probably this series will end with something around 5000 comments or so, and clearly I was wrong.
If anyone else remembered better, do correct me. The part between EP 4 and EP 8, I couldn't really remember.
It's 12 hours away from EP 11. Remember to clear out thoughts and calm ourselves before we watch. I know there's…
Remember the fist bump from EP 10? Some people immediately found it not nice/not as they expected. There was a little disagreement back then lasting till last Saturday.
But later on, after the whole week passed, as we understand the cultural context, symbolisms and all, it actually meant much deeper than it may first seemed to many of us.

Don't think too much, and don't be too critical about what you see immediately. A lot of things happen in context of the story, among other things. After we watch, we share our thoughts here so we can better understand things, and help one another to appreciate the episode better.
(As usual, you need to rewatch at least once or twice to fully understand the many hidden meanings and symbols)
This is so good (I love WindFancyArt's lots of illustrations especially for PatPran and Bad Buddy)
So touching...

Just sharing these insights with all of you. :D

And I just want to say that EP 11 will be even better than EP 10. I can guarantee that EP 11 will explode even more than how EP 10 exploded last week.
I think it was around 25k plus comments last week.
But later on, after the whole week passed, as we understand the cultural context, symbolisms and all, it actually meant much deeper than it may first seemed to many of us.
