They fix a lot of the issues in the drama. In the drama it is mentioned that he was married, but that it was arranged…
Will that be mentioned later in the drama? Thank you, if they were cordial for the two years of being married but not in love, it makes sense.
In the novel, the ML was simply respectful towards lady jiang, but mourned her death because they were married for years, although distant, he considered her a part of the family. more of sisterly id say. however, what ruined it for me was that in the novel, the ML had two children, multiple concubines, and Chen xuanqing was also his adopted son in the novel. Then, ML falls for a young girl who just came of age. Also, I hated the FL because she loved Chen xuanqing throughout and made it hell for everyone involved, even leading Chen xuanqing’s wife to miscarry.
It was hot trash with rebirth plot. Genuinely so grateful the drama isn’t like that
You know what’s also gross now that I think about it? Fu Haitian and his wife. She says they’ve been married…
that’s seriously very gross too. there’s another drama where they actually romanticized an old emperor marrying a young naive girl, same age as his sons. I almost threw up, couldn’t continue it.
In eps 7 & 11 , it’s mentioned that Chen Yanyun was already married once for 2 years and is now widowed. I know they switched up so many things from the novel and I’m glad they did. But, I just want to know, did he love his first wife? His mom talked about how he mourned her for years. I just find it icky that the ML is older and has already had a marriage, is a widower, way more powerful whereas the FL is a girl who just had her coming of age ceremony. She’s 18 for the drama’s sake but it’s still icky. The novel is disgusting plot wise, hated the FL character, but whatever, the drama isn’t like that until now. So glad.
Well the thing that feels off and took me was when the guy ask "how if you wait for me until the end".…
This! It’s pathetic how they normalize his feelings for his ex while already being married. What’s justified would’ve been a “Hi! How are you doing? Hope you’re well” and move tf on. People with lingering feelings for their ex after break up should NOT get married or have kids until they sort their feelings out
This guy is already married with a kid. I feel so bad for his wife and child. The FL hides in the room and acts like they’re cheating when the ML’s daughter calls. The FL is seen to be sad and walk away. The ML also hesitates to pick up his child’s call. Tf. Also, the ML asks if she’ll wait for him. Pathetic.
Bunch of emotional cheating wrapped under the context of past love. Disgusting
he had a lover who waited for him for 3 years but died in an accident and now is slowly falling for the FL? no grief process time? i know this is a twisted series but i feel bad for his late lover
Drake is trash. Alys might be dramatic and clumsy but at least she’s nice. Tripp seems to be a great guy and is inevitably falling for Alys. Their chemistry is more natural and believable. Can we throw drake out of the equation and make it a tripp x alys story. Drake doesn’t seem to appreciate what he has. Dumb airhead.
In the preview, she comes for a date and he asks “why are you here” for the nth freaking time. Is she your girlfriend or arch enemy you idiot. And the noob is a big yikes nickname
Ngl as much as I love their relationship, I kinda feel bummed out by how Yan Chi said he doesn’t want a lady who lives in the inner chambers, applies makeup, and relies on him. That’s basically most of the ladies of that era, it’s not their fault, it’s deep rooted patriarchy. Even if they wanted to get out and make a name for themselves, they’ll be shunned or face so many obstacles. It’s not easy to accept being social rejected.
Shen wan is also indirectly implying I’m not like other girls by saying she’s not gentle, virtuous, or a noble lady. She is in fact gentle, with her love and affection while being fierce when it matters, she’s so virtuous, and more noble. These words are usually implied in cdramas as women who are doormats and just let their husband or family do whatever they want but I wish Shen Wan gave a different aspect to it.
I loved how after the first case was solved, Shen Wen corrected that it’s not about the gender when Yue Ning said women should just stay single as men are so fickle since Song Rou died trusting the man she loved. I hope the keep such progressive thoughts in mind.
The author of the novel but be so awesome to create such a properly paced green flag relationship. Slay to the cast and crew for bring this story to life too!!
I loved how Yan Chi didn’t say he fell in love with her first sight. He told her exactly how a good relationship actually forms. She definitely caught his eye at first, he admired her, respected her, he came to trust her, and then he fell in love. It’s so natural. He had a crush on her for the person she is, trusted her as an accomplice and trusted her judgments, kinda knew her past and what she went through, and then fell in love with the whole of her. Plus he clearly communicated his thoughts and feelings. That’s exactly how it should be, a love built on admiration, respect, vulnerability and trust
Then people would call it a filler ep. I get you but I love the balance. I want them to be so in love while not…
Rightt but also, she’s in danger most of the time bc she’s still vulnerable while solving cases, she isn’t Yan Chi who can command troops or Yue Ning who can fight fiercely but Shen Wan wants to get to the bottom of things always so it’s inevitable that’s she’s in so much danger
Shen Wan was jelly and asked Yan Chi about where he was at but once Yan Chi explained, she said sorry and turned it into a light hearted lovely conversation. he cleared the misunderstanding as well. I love how this couple screams green flags, and are so mature in their communication. No matter what stage of relationship they’re in, they command respect and deep love for each other
“I treat you as my brother so I wouldn’t let anyone insult or mess with you. I see her as my wife for life, I wouldn’t let anyone insult or mess with her.
NOT even you!” 👏👏
YAN CHI THE MAN THAT YOU ARE OMGG
Like he stood up for her against his cousin even if it was just a joke. I’ve seen people put their kin before the woman they love irl and damn this was so refreshing. He didn’t sit by, let it slide as a joke but clearly drew the line. No one messes with his people, and Shen Wan is his person, his ‘wife’ now omg ❤️

She’s so level headed, mature, grieving, loving, all while not forgetting her purpose and carrying a deep scar in her heart.
QUEEN FR 😭
