No, when the novelās Xiao duo forced her, he clearly knew she was in pain. BYL went to the palace as the emperorās concubine when xiao duo planned to elope with her, she didnāt explain it to xiao duo. The emperor threatened her and she couldnāt risk losing xiao duoās life. Xiao duo thought she accepted everything & decided to be the emperorās concubine for real. He got triggered when he got to know that byl served the emperor in bed (not true, someone else took her place becuz byl has xiao duo in her heart). He got angry, humiliated her, and forced himself on her. She asks him to stop but he doesnāt listen cuz he wants her to feel the pain. Then, he finds out that she lost her virginity to him. So, he calms down & they get together again. He starts acting sweet like nothing happened. Itās messed up but yea, thatās how the novel progressed.

yea, the author must've lost it. It's a shame, she's a woman herself. agreed, those characters should def stay in the novel. i would never associate the novel & the drama's xiao duo together
According to the media: its a university love story between the FL and ML. The FL met the ML at 18 and fell in love during the university. They studied hard & progressed together but because of the FL's poor economical status, the ML's family refused to accept the FL and their relationship. With her confidence and self-esteem crushed, she returns to her hometown and decided to start a business. The ML follows her there hoping to support her with her plans. Together they work hard and develop a tea business in her hometown and promote the tea industry. The story has a sweet and happy ending.

In the drama, I believe that self hatred is becoz of the blood stains in his hands (killing many people) to climb the ladder and not because he physically assaulted someone. Xiao duo replaced his brother and entered the palace at a very young age as an eunuch and in the novel, there's a part where it says how no woman has ever seen xiao duo's intimate body or gotten this close to him so there's no way the novel/ drama's xiao duo r@ped someone. As for killing innocents, he might have indirectly been responsible for that. It could have been under the stance, survival of the fittest. Both yinlou & xiao duo were their firsts and i was angry at the fact that he forced himself on her (the second time they got intimate). the pain was due to yinlou losing her virginity but that doesn't justify novel xiao duo forcing himself on her.
I look at drama's xiao duo as a better written character by the screenwriter (keeping the viewers & wang hedi's reputation in mind) & not entirely as the novel's xiao duo. Even if its a redemption arc like you said, he would be subjected to repent for his sins & giving a happy ending to a r@pist would send a completely wrong msg since its such a sensitive topic. Hence I'm sure that the drama's xiao duo would never be portrayed like that. The drama is gaining n times more attention than the novel so the crew can't afford to risk and make such a big mistake.
I planned to watch, but I did read comments that complain about many scenes being cut. Were the scenes cut very…
romantic parts like a few kiss scenes were cut. I'm actually enjoying the drama because I can feel their trust, chemistry & bonding even without the kiss scenes. Like another user mentioned here, they have a lot of skinship if you notice.
just finished reading the novel. It is a uniquely crafted story with romance, angst and so many twists. We rarely come across a detailed love story between a revenge-driven powerful eunuch and street smart lady. Their story was unconventional and refreshing.
For the certain scenes that I didn't like or came as a shock, I think its because the author either has a backward mentality or thinks women were treated like this in ancient times (somewhat true tho). I do get it, how much ever we swoon on respectful historical MLs who treat women equally and respect their partners' wishes, that was mostly not the case in ancient china. So, its like a story that really happened in ancient times and for ancient people to consider a great love legend.
But, ig I have the right to complain a bit too. I'm not complaining about sexism, it is prevalent and I tolerate that when I watch it in ancient dramas because that's how it was in the past but r@pe is different. If you watch a drama or read a novel with a character who does that, will you say that person is worthy of love? watching someone forcing their partner in a slap kiss thai lakorn is better than watching the same story in a romantic cdrama because while watching such lakorns, you know what you signed up for. I might be whining too much but this hard to digest after loving and admiring xiao duo's character after seeing the drama version. I don't wish to read a nice novel and start disliking the main lead on the contrary. How much ever the novel Xiao Duo was sweeter after that scene, I kept feeling bitter while reading it. It was hard to say I wish I had a man like Xiao Duo in my life after that.
My only hope for this story is the drama. I genuinely hope the drama doesn't disappoint. I will forget the novel and the novel Xiao duo if the drama's Xiao duo is nice till the end. Something tells me he will be. I really like the drama and the main characters. Drama's Xiao Duo is too handsome to hate lol
