I completely agree. The script is definitely not "subpar". Compared to a few dramas that blew my head away with their level of stupidity, WRTW is the definition of an extraordinary drama and worth all the hype

I'm sure the plot will get back on track soon. Though they have adapted this drama from a novel, the drama has its individuality. Don't let the previews confuse you, everything will soon fall into place. It's just my opinion. I really don't want this drama to be a letdown considering the cast, story, and high-quality production.

I get it, Yang Yang's popularity also plays a role in deciding his screen time. I would also like to believe that the drama wants to explore what has not been elaborated on in the novel. None of the Feng brothers were even mentioned in the novel whereas their characters are given importance here.
