Haha cool thank you that makes perfect sense now in the context of the drama. I think they need to invest in more text translations on this drama - a lot gets lost for the international viewer. I watched 9 Tailed Fox 1938 and as I am not Korean and have zero idea of folklore, the drama had lots of extra subtitles about various mythical creature etc to put the scene in context which was helpful. More of that in this drama would have been good!
In ep 25, Yu You's parents hid two chess pieces referred to as "ministers" as a gentle reminder about marriage.…
So the 2 chess pieces have the character "xiang" - elephant (?) from what I remember. And he ended up holding a pair of "xiang" which one can say he held "yi dui xiang" or a pair of elephants (?) literally but "dui xiang" also means - target object partner/boyfriend/girlfriend - according to google...so they are saying he needs to look for his "dui xiang". I looked up the Chinese subs so a native speaker can correct me if I'm wrong! Bit like Chinese homophones I think 😅
Lol so much subtlety! Might need to rewatch the red horse riding outfit bit again. Thank you for the clarifications, all makes se se now. Zheng Shu Yi in red does look stunni g though - loved the scene when she met her love rival and both wore the res dress, she won hands down!
Don't know if it's pushing it to ask if you recall the context of "red dress" (when Shiyan asked Shuyi to wear red and she seemed tickled) and "making cake" (that she texted to thr ex at dinner) in the story? I think they may have appeared in the novel too but probably made no sense to me...
In ep 17, the niece asks is your blind date better than my uncle? And Bai Lu says no, but when was her uncle revealed?…
Yes the context is The Uncle that QSY knows Shuyi is interested in from episode 10 after they bonded at the concert. QSY doesn't try to promote her own uncle till much later.
I checked the Chinese subs to be sure as well - mistranslations and misunderstandings definitely do drama watchers no favours 🤣😅
Don't have Viki hadn't realised it would be different.
In ep 17, the niece asks is your blind date better than my uncle? And Bai Lu says no, but when was her uncle revealed?…
I checked the Mango subs - it just says "better than Uncle" not "my Uncle" - so no, it was not her uncle that she meant but The Uncle - the niece knows Shuyi is going out with an Uncle of her ex-boyfriend's girlfriend (yay more confusion in that sentence). The convo after that was comparing the blind date and The Uncle (Shu Yi is referring to Shi Yan the Uncle, whilst the niece is referring to an Uncle whom she doesn't know - but in reality IS her own uncle).
Had to reread that a few times lol but hopefully you get the plot (no hole). The uncle revelation is a bit later...
Someone posted a link in the forum already so just follow that and rate the variety show too! You have 6 episodes to enjoy 😉
Also if you did not know, the cast also got together last month I think for a live appreciation event with fans - think only available on iQiyi app but you can see some of it here:
I loved this movie! When I read the plot, I was intrigued and kept checking in on it to see if it was finally…
Thanks for this without spoiling! Do you know where to watch this with good English subs? The one I saw didn't quite match but my Japanese isn't good enough to comprehend fully.
Seems marmite going by comments - it's got campy old humour, multiple misunderstandings and constant interrupted romantic scenes...- if you don't mind that then yes. I actually liked all secondary characters/couples for once (bar the villians) too. I really liked this one and had a great laugh but lots didn't really like it as you'll see if you scroll down.
Yay I am with you - I had just a blast watching this as it was so light and funny. I've read the novel a long…
Man we could be sat in a room together 😆😆😆 this was one of my favourite scenes of compounded misunderstandings when I mentioned it being multi-layered...you just want QSY to be quiet and it gets worse the more she says and Dylan really portrayed it so well as SY - I saw his heart breaking in a million pieces....🥺
Uhm1 - XW2 - YS from Love is sweet3 - YG from return of the condor heroes4 - Lo Chi Kin from cold blood warm heart5…
I did see there was a version with Crystal Liu! I'll have to watch the Carmen Lee version one then if I can find a good subtitled version. Thanks for the recc!
Thanks again the explanationd, super helpful!

The text transtion seem good too. I struggled with the novel translation I read ages back so manhua should help!
