I think the key here is the author. I read somewhere that she really wanted XL to be endgame but she just couldn’t figure out how to go about it.

XL’s dedication to the Chen Rong army was always the biggest issue. I know it’s lazy writing but I wouldn’t mind a moment of epiphany for him or something lol

I was just thinking about this. This author should’ve really find a way to write it so that it’s a happy ending (meaning with 🐍). XY’s parents already had the star cross lover tragedy already with the misunderstood, hated father and her mom marrying the safer guy. Why not throw us a bone 😭
