I just watched the first episode until now. The drama is interesting and got my attention. But, I'm a bit…
Did you really have to write your whole biography (including your mum's) as an argument? o_o To be honest, that is disturbing.
Personal growth is not when you raise your kids ffs but when you achieve something by yourself and for yourself personally. I mean, kudos for your mum, but that has nothing to do with what I was saying, obviously...

Of course not, but I don't see how you're going to achieve personal growth by staying for decades at home, alone, while everyone else is at school or work, socializing with other people. Personally, I don't know any woman/man who has willingly decided to sit at home and do absolutely nothing. Those wives appear more like servants than wives (especially in Asia), to be honest - waiting for everyone to come back home, preparing their food etc
I already explained how is that a stupid decision on many levels.

@nicolejanine I don't think that young women who decide willingly to be housewives are less worthy, but I do think they're making a terrible and stupid decision. I believe that work is not only important because of money but because of personal growth as well. Sitting at home your whole day, talking to other housewives, making lunch and taking care of kids and husband can only dull your other abilities and make you even dumber. There are people who can manage both, and unless you're physically incapable of working so you're staying home, then there's no excuse for housewives in the 21st century whatsoever.
And I'm here because I like discussing topics such as this one :D

I wondered if asuka would consider that she doesn't need marriage to achieve her end goal of creating a warm,…
Hmm I don't think that young women who choose to be housewives are shamed for the reasons you think them to be. It's more about looking after yourself and being responsible for your own future. A young woman, in the 21st century, who gives up on her education and work in order to depend on somebody else financially can only end up hurt later on. People change, and a loving husband can stop loving you after decades of marriage. I've seen so many dumped or abused women in their 40s and 50s without any work experience because they chose to be traditional housewives and basically do nothing their whole lives.
If I were Asuka's friend/sister/mother, I'd never agree or respect her choice, but I'd let her do whatever she wants. And since we're speaking about a Japanese drama, let me remind you that Asian society views on women have drastically changed during the last decade (thankfully!). In the 90s, it was demanded of women to give up on their work and education the moment they get married, and the ones who didn't want that were shamed.
So just because it is her right to choose something, that does not mean that it is the right choice.

I gave it a try and gave up. I cannot stand the main female character or any woman in real life who thinks that…
There's a difference between having an opinion and forcing somebody to do something. There's no need to be butthurt, if you are a housewife, that's fine, chill.
To me, Asuka is a whiny and immature woman who glorifies marriage. She didn't even notice her boyfriend's unhappiness because she was obsessed with getting married, so the concept of marriage is more important to her than actually having a meaningful relationship with somebody. And the scene in which she slaps Ryu because he tells her his opinion on marriage? If that's not a sign of a bitchy and immature person then I don't know...
People who want to get married only because they think that will bring them happiness and others will respect them more are dumb IMHO. So yeah, that's my opinion. You can keep yours.

@Mare yeahh and the scene in which she slaps Ryu only because he tells her his opinion (which is more logical than her stupid whining), gosh, I wanted to bitch slap her back so hard! :D

Well... why shouldn't I be here? This page is not only for die-hard fans. :D
Her abilities will probably disappear after some time, including her savings, yes. And if her hubby decides he doesn't love her anymore after 20, 30 years, then she's most likely fucked up and will depend on her family to take her in. Yeah, I know this can be contributed to Asian culture, which is actually very interesting to analyze.
However, many Asian women have rejected the notion of being housewives, especially in Japan. This would be a great topic to write about :D

I still find her to be whiny and immature. Creating a happy home for children cannot be forced, a marriage is not equivalent to happiness.
What do you mean she doesn't want to depend on her husband? If she gives up on her work to be a full-time housewife, she will depend on the husband to provide money and everything else because she will be... well, a housewife. I think I could write a whole article of how wrong the whole drama is, but I know I would trigger the whole MDL community and wannabe housewives. lol

I'm one of those who disagree with "there is nothing wrong in being a housewife". Especially because in this drama Asuka wants to get married asap only because she thinks that is the key to eternal happiness which is very immature, naive and dumb. She glorifies the marriage and cares more about it than actually being in a meaningful relationship with somebody. She was so obsessed with it that she didn't even notice her boyfriend distancing himself from her. Women like her who desperately want to get married because of that and because everyone else is doing it are usually the ones who regret it later on when they realize that marriage is just a piece of paper and that you should not depend on anyone. You can be happily married but still be independent, and I would never ever teach young girls that just being a housewife and giving up on education and work is a smart move.

The point is not whether she has any right to do that or not. I can dream of being a butterfly, but that doesn't make me any smarter. Giving up on your career in order to depend on other person (in this case the husband) who can dump you in 10, 20 years and leave you penniless on the streets is a very stupid decision and I would never ever advice my daughter to do that.

I gave it a try and gave up. I cannot stand the main female character or any woman in real life who thinks that marriage is the "ultimate goal" and that just by marrying you will obtain eternal happiness. And don't even let me start on Asuka's reasons for wanting to be a professional housewife, they're lame and stupid. I can't imagine a grown up and intelligent woman giving up her whole life and career only so she can be a housewife. Like seriously?

Title Kuzu no Honkai Spoiler
Ok, the manga is just terrible and I hope the anime and drama will take another direction...
I agree, it becomes really shitty once they start sleeping around with everyone like rabbits. I had high expectations but was let down.
