ShoukaHitomi explained it well, yes, the beginning in manga is awful, but as you read on, you see the ACTUAL progress - they both grow up, more or less. It even becomes romantic. And believe me when I say it, because I hate doormat heroines and sadistic heroes.

If it weren't for Viki comments, I wouldn't have even started watching this (I dislike gender bender). Anyhow, the guys from comments made ma laugh so hard that I woke up the whole household!

btw, is it explained how she has managed to pass through the school examinations? You cannot really hide your gender from the doctors.
