If you want to know the whole story, you better watch the drama of Legend of the Condor Heroes first bcos this movie focuses on the war between Mongolia and Song. You will get confused with the characters backgrounds and the plot. However if you solely want to watch it for Xiao Zhan, perhaps, then you can watch it without seeing the drama first.

Usually the dvd/bluray ver should be out in 6 months or so. Although, there might be some illegal sites that share the movie faster once they receive the raw video and finish subbing.

I watched this with my mom purely bcos it is Condor Heroes. So this is my first ever watching Xiao Zhan and Zhuang Dafei. Xiao Zhan did great as Guo Jing. He portrayed Jing's innocence and growth very well.

For Zhuang Dafei, well... I will just say about Huang Rong. She feels more like a good girl next door instead. I wonder why the more remake they made, Huang Rong became more and more underwhelming and flat. Either bcos of the acting or the character written. So far from all the remakes, none could even be on par with Barbara Yung (1983 HK ver), except Ariel Lin.

I was pleasantly surprised they used the same scores for the music 😭 I felt like going back to when I watched the 1983 ver, forever iconic. The music, cinematography, the CG are amazing. However as a wuxia, it depends too much on special effects instead of real fighting. I feel like watching 2 immortals or super humans fighting. They fly and control the wind and fire.

Highly appreciate they speak in Mongolian language! And not just one or two sentences, but they speak in Mongolian for almost half of the movie 👍🏻

Overall it was a great movie. Keep in mind that this ver is just a part of Legend of The Condor Heroes that focuses more on the war between Mongolia and Song. For those who never watch The Legend of the Condor Heroes, better watch this last after you finish the series.

p.s I was hoping to see Huang Yaoshi though...

I just started watching and currently on ep 10 without reading the cast list.

Tbh I was surprised to see Sun Zujun in yet another role of a jerk 🤦‍♀️ I wonder why he almost always got this type of character????

Also I didn't expect to see Bai Bingke. I was still "traumatized" by her character in Everlasting Longing that everytime her character appeared I wanted to chop her 😡 Now she plays a female warrior character. I need time to adjust...

Since I'm still on ep 10, I think Zhen Heng and Qiao would make a good couple. Both are gentle, virtuous, brave and intelligent.

I just started watching and currently on ep 10. I think it is good. This is another "going back to the past" drama, but unlike Blossom, the FL is eager to get revenge of the people who hurt her. So far she successfully changed everyone's fate.

It is a pun bcos the novel title's literal meaning is "Nine Folds of Purple". So the books the sage hold are written "Ten Folds of Purple", "Eleven Folds of Purple", etc.

The ending for his father and brother are so much more satisfying in the novel 🤭

Meng Ziyi and Li Yunrui are rumored to film Keep Running for 3 episodes! Zhao Zhao Mo Mo will be back!!!!!

Tbh I was hoping to see either Li Yunrui, Wang Hongyi, Tian Jiarui, Liu Xiening, Wu Xuanyi, or Dai Luwa perhaps... But I'm happy to see Xin Yunlai! I'm curious about his real personality and how he will adapt with the show.

Btw are Meng Ziyi and Xu Zhisheng the only OG for s5? 😭

Wang Herun is really pretty! Her acting as a madwoman is so good!

I love that Su Xiaoyong and the princess are not the typical ladies in cdrama.

Su Xiaoyong is cute, sensible, knowledgeable, not the typical clingy, persistent, impulsive girl who keeps following ML.

The princess is also adorable. Not the type that is arrogant, selfish, spoiled princess. She is good mannered, elegant, caring and easy to talk to. If only every princess in cdrama is like her.

1. Li Xiangyi and Qiao Mianwan had past relationship.
2. Fang Duobing is engaged with the princess and she likes him.
3. Su Xiaoyong likes Li Lianhua.
Only the first one is shown a lot bcos their past relationship affects her current relationship.

However do not worry much bcos this is a male centric drama, focuses more on his journey with his friends and uncovering the truth.

My mother and I noticed that even though Li Tongguang doesn't have feelings for Yang Ying, but his attitude towards her is different from how he treats Chu Yue. He treats Chu Yue like a man, comrade, and doesn't care even one bit. But he treats Yang Ying gently and he cares about her. Perhaps due to their similar backgrounds, or bcos the fact that she is a girl, or bcos she triggers his protective side. It would've been better if we could see how they are doing after that...

I rewatched this bcos it is so good. Yet I still don't understand why they had to show Chu Yue instead of Yang Ying 🤔 Who cares about her? Chu Yue barely has any role in this drama. Viewers would love to see how Yang Ying is doing after the time skip. Idk if it meant Chu Yue was following them...

I'm amazed you could hold on until ep 27 even when you don't like the story. If I were you, I would drop it before I reach eps 5... idk if you are patience or stubborn...

I looked at the cast and all the characters from the novel are there! I feel like all of them fits the descriptions in the novel. The actress playing Yi Xiao looks cute and somewhat similar with Meng Ziyi.

I can't wait to see the sharp tongued Yi Sa and pure boy Zong Hang, along with the chatterbox Ding Yudie 😆

Oh I forgot to mention. Ji Yong in the novel is cruel, ruthless, and narcissistic. He can harm people with a smile in his face. His victims are Dou Ming and Wei Tingyu. He always thinks what he does is right and thinks it will make Dou Zhao happy. His feelings for her is explained clearly. For him, only Dou Zhao is equal to him. He loves bickering with her and boldly said he wants to marry her. Dou Zhao had a headache when she found out Ji Yong proposed her 😅 I'm glad they toned down Ji Yong's cruelty in the drama.

Song Yichun actually cares more about his reputation and status more than his sons. So he could abandon his sons. However Song Han is a total bastard! What he did in the novel is so disgusting 😡

A LOT!!!!!

1. Dou Shishu, fifth uncle in the novel is a very loyal, honest and good character. He cares about Dou Zhao. He is smart, so he warns Dou Zhao and Song Mo to stay away from politics. He and Song Mo often discuss some things.

2. Dou Shiying, Dou Zhao's father, really loves Dou Zhao. He locked Wang Yingxue to prevent her harming Dou Zhao. He also sent Wang Yingxue back to Wang family.

3. There is no poison issue.

4. Dou Ming is the exact copy of her mother: jealous, stupid, evil, but powerless.

5. Wei Tingyu had a mistress and she was pregnant, but Dou Ming drugged her and she was miscarriage. Then he has another mistress outside who is pregnant. He asked for money from his friends.

6. Song Mo's sister is alive! Dou Zhao managed to find out her existence by a chance. Song Mo sent Chen Jia to bring her back. Her name is Jiang Yan. She then lives in Song Mo's mansion. The couple introduced her to Jiang family and relatives. Jiang Yan and Chen Jia get married.

7. Miao Ansu and Dou Zhao are strangers. Miao family originally had a woman who became a concubine, but after she and the previous emperor died, Miao family became commoners.

8. Miao Ansu immediately realized the dispute between Song brothers and decided not to get involved, esp bcos she could see Song Han is a bastard. She then sides with Dou Zhao and helps Song Mo. She manages to get divorced by suing him.

9. Song Yichun and Song Han don't die until the end. Song Yichun banished Song Han from family registry and Song Han bit Song Yichun's neck. Song Yichun is then bedridden and lost the ability to speak. Song Han is exiled by the crown prince.

10. Dou family is huge, they are divided into West and East branches. Dou family has a lot of sons with only a few daughters. Dou Zhao is very close to her male cousins. Dou Shiying adopted sixth uncle's son as his own son.

11. Dou Zhao, Ji Yong, Wu Shan, and several of Dou Zhao's male cousins grew up together.

12. Ji Yong asked his grandpa to propose to Dou Zhao. This caused the switcheroo marriage! Fifth Uncle's wife and Wang Yingxue arranged it.

13. Dou Zhao and Song Mo only met a few times in secret bcos he doesn't want his father to know their relationship. While Dou Zhao tried to avoid him bcos she didn't want to get involved in Song family dispute. She even rejected his proposal twice.

14. Prince Qing attempted to hold Dou Zhao ad her son as hostage to threaten Song Mo, while he himself sneaked into the palace to kill the emperor. Song Mo and Ji Yong managed to subdue to rebellion.

15. Ji Yong works for the crown prince.

16. Dou Zhao is pregnant in just 4 months after marriage bcos Song Mo is lustful 🤣 they have a son and by the end, she is pregnant with the second child in just 3 years of marriage ❤

Tbh there are too many details in the novel 😭 Another good thing is, except Ansu and Ji Yong, other characters get married, even their servants!

She can't prevent deaths, she isn't God. She doesn't know the exact time and place of the events. This is further explained in details in the book. In the drama, she asked the sage few times why some fate are still the same. She can save those who can be saved.

You think what Dou Zhao does is pointless? Think about this:
1. She tried to protect her mother, but her mother still felt heartbroken by her father again and again. So she committed suicide. But she changed Dou Ming's fate and forced Wang Yingxue to go to the temple, while she herself moved to Zhending.
2. Duke Ding's death is a conspiracy. How could she save him? Even in the book, she doesn't know who killed Duke Ding. But she managed to prevent Jiang family being exterminated.
3. Song Mo's mother died is also out of Dou Zhao's control. She doesn't know why, how, and when Song Mo's mother died.
4. Grandma Cui was supposed to die of illness, but in this life, bcos Dou Zhao was in Zhending, she could save grandma.
5. Wu Shan was also supposed to die, but Dou Zhao saved him.

Actually there is another major key character in the novel, but the drama erased this person. Dou Zhao saved this person's life, unlike in the previous life where she didn't even know about this person's existence.
