It's amusing how people often criticize K-dramas for recycling the same tropes and genres, yet when a fresh twist…
It is pretty bad tho.
Introducing new formula is a good thing but only if the new formula is nice. Not brainless comedy like in Newtopia.

but they somehow always nail it, i personally enjoy these youth cdramas
The key difference you're missing in your post is that Korean and Western governments do not censor dramas on a daily basis. Directors and screenwriters can express their creativity with relatively few restrictions.

The issue isn’t that the Chinese government produces some dramas to promote countryside tourism or other agendas; Western governments also subsidize dramas and movies (for example, Top Gun, which was supported by the U.S. Air Force).

The real issue is the massive censorship in China of anything that doesn’t align with the government’s narrative. Censorship there has become so extreme that it’s almost ridiculous. Just recently, they completely butchered an excellent drama (The Way Home) by pulling every single emotional scene from it because the bromance was deemed too strong. Their censorship rules are also absurd, with requirements like "the good guy must always win", "no morally gray main characters", "no time travel/body switch", "must always paint the government/police in a good light", "No BL", etc.

I did too at first, but now they kind of bore me.

I wonder if the government is encouraging the production of these "teenagers growing into adults who integrate into society" dramas. There are so many of them. That and business romance too.

I feel like I have seen the exact same plot in like 50 other Chinese drama. Can't they bring a bit of originality for once... These "teenager to adult romance" are becoming really repetitive and they always use the same trope.

How can this have a high rating without romance? Such a shame, a missed opportunity. The rating would be well…
Personally, I hate romance. I would have dropped it if it had any. There is too much romance drama, thank God we still have dramas like this without it.

Why do I like this better than weak class hero hope season 2 of weak hero will be kick ass
Study Group has a better story and fight scenes, yes, but I still much prefer Park Jihoon as the main actor. His acting was phenomenal in Weak Hero. Weak Hero OST was way better too.

Title Restart
Rumor shooting will start this year, set in the 70s periodic drama
Why the '70s? Reset happens in present time.
So, this has no connection to reset or the time loop concept, except being an adaptation of a different novel by the same writer? The title "Restart" made it sound like a sequel.

Before this drama aired, it was said that the genre of this series is Romantic Comedy, why do you want this drama…
Because it's been years, I have been waiting for something like happiness, and it hasn't come. I had some hope for this one.

Just watched episodes 1 and 2, and yeah, this is totally not my thing. Having a bit of comedy in a zombie drama is fine, but when it’s only comedy, it gets annoying. Especially brainless comedy like that.

I really wish this had been more like Happiness.

You might not like it then, it is almost entirely goofy-type comedy. It is definitely not dark.
Ah shit, the same director made Time to Hunt (2020) and Bleak Night (2011) which I really liked and were not comedy at all.

Is this worth watching? I love zombie dramas, but I’m more into dark thrillers/mysteries. The comedy/romance tags put me off a bit.
I’m not against a bit of humor or romance, but it shouldn’t be the all of the story.

The drama looks very good, but I'm hesitant to start.
Military drama are usually not my thing. I find them cringe with all the patriotic stuff.
Does this drama has a thriller aspect to it or is it just a military romance with a lot of brainless action scene?

This is because you don't have privileged access to China's "prestige" dramas exclusively targeted for its domestic…
You know that even if a drama is marketed exclusively for the Chinese market with no official English translation, it is still listed and available internationally through unofficial sources (such as torrents or streaming websites), right?

Almost all Chinese drama information on MDL comes from Chinese websites like Douban and Baidu, and there are plenty of Chinese editors contributing. So foreigners can find out about these drama quite easily.

Additionally, by using a VPN, you can easily set your computer's location to China, bypassing geo-blocking and accessing the drama. Nowadays, you can even generate highly accurate English subtitles automatically using AI programs like Whisper or machine-translate existing Chinese subtitles.

So, what you're saying doesn’t make much sense, honestly. We're not in the 1980s anymore, everything is accessible everywhere these days.

I agree that China is producing too much business/romance drama most of which are mediocre. If only their drama market was more open to other genre and less censored we could get a lot of gems like "Reset" or "Better days".

It sucks that China is producing so few gripping drama like this. Plenty of mediocre business/romance shit, literally every months, but few interesting thriller like this.

If you liked this, I highly recommend the US movie "Source code", similar story but happens in a train not a bus.
