Ikr... I dropped TLI because I couldn't bear myself watching FL suffers for so many episodes. TLI only gets a higher rating than this because of fans of their traffic stars, lol.
Lin asked for help to be saved at first because she didn't know the killer intend to kill her, probably she thought she had a heart attack or something like that. Once the killer confessed and told that the kid switched the poison, Lin's heart for protecting the kid kicked in. Her character was protective to the children, not necessarily the innocent (the boy from abuse, the teenage boy from bullying). Besides, Tung was not necessarily innocent cos he cheated his gf. When Lin asked the killer to strangle her, she said to do it for the kid's sake.
As of why Lin chose to die instead to live, isn't because of depression? She looked for her ex lover for years, moved close by, and they were ready to start a new life. A dying spouse was something but she couldn't reject a plea from a child. Since she couldn't move on, a death is preferable, I guess.
It's actually quite realistic because it's a crime of passion when someone kills because of a sudden strong impulse such as anger or jealousy, this type of crime is quite common. The killer was angry/jealous because Lin said she wanted to have a child with Tung. The other two cover for the killer because they love the person.
