Based on some forums I read, it seems that snake already saw through XY's disguise when they first met at the army camp, but still proceeded to beat her. Even if XY was trying to be "all man and tough", to me, since he already knew she is a gal, how could he still proceed to beat her and then rough handle her and drink her blood? Remember he also threw her down from the tree and broke her leg?
And yes, Snakey making her swim back when she regained her girl form was bad. Luckily that day Foxy was "silly" enough to wait at the beach for her and saved her from drowning. LOL. So turned out the real silly one was the snake who gave the chance to the fox to shine! 😅
Foxy is too responsible to the point of indecisiveness. At work, we always say the company can survive without us, guess foxy never thought about putting his own mental health and happiness over his responsibility to his clan. Without him, I am sure his fox clan can still survive, just that the way Hou will things will not be popular and probably won't last long. Probably get replaced by another cousin or something. But end of the day, the fox clan will still survive.
I think snake loves XY, but if someone shows love by beating and roughing up their loved one, it is very dysfunctional and unhealthy even if they love the person very much. In a way, snake had a rough childhood with no good role models. Remember he said when he hatched from the egg, his parents were nowhere to be seen. 🥚😢
Foxy has rich people problems. He is like the CEO of a company; everyone depends on him so that the company will continue to be profitable, and his family can continue the good life and their long time employees keep their jobs. He is obliged to marry politically and being too kind-hearted to make grandma upset, he is stuck. He might want to elope with XY, but he doesn't want to upset grandma, he also wants XY to have the honour of his good family name. How can a princess be with a beggar is Foxy's thinking. I think she likes both the snake and the fox. But she probably likes the fox that bit more because he is what she is looking for...a stable person who only has eyes for her, loves her dearly and will always keep her company. Something which unfortunately snake is unable to give her because of his prior commitment to the war cause.

Misogyny? That is a strong word and judgmental. I don't think anyone here has a hatred for women just because one feels sorry for the Shen Yurong character. Feeling bad for Shen Yurong, him coming across as pitiful and remorseful are separate matters and does not take away the fact that Shen Yurong wronged his wife. No two ways about it, he is wrong to do what he did to her.
My thought of using neutral words for closure is for JL / XFF's protection. The fact that Shen Yurong tried making it up to her by not calling her out in court etc could mean he is also trying to find closure. Why not just say something neutral and send him out of her way? The Xue family name is already cleared in this episode, she is in a distinguished family and Duke Su is closing in on the bad guys. Since Shen Yurong is on villain payroll, he will get what he deserves shortly. She shouldn't waste more time on him. But JL's harsh words have provoked Shen Yurong. At the end of episode 24, it looks like he is planning to take her out even as Duke Su closes in on the villain group. I would have preferred JL move on with her life and be happy after so much tragedy. Anyways...

Crazy? No, as without passing the exam in top place, it would have been a longer and bumpier road to clear the Xue name. Remember the bet was to become a monk /nun if one loses. Li Lian is probably having a "fun time" as a monk after losing the bet. If JL went in as a nun, it is going to be even harder for her to get out.
Helping JL pass an exam does not erase what SYR did to her, that is for sure. A wrong is a wrong. But it is a good thing that SYF helped with the final decisive grade so that JL gets the win.
