Shen Yurong is a shade of grey. What he did is not right, no disputing that. But he does seem to miss XFF very much and feels great remorse about what he did. Perhaps when I catch up on the later episodes and learn the reasons, I will feel differently about him. I want to know his intent. As of now, it seems that he is doing things under coercion? That is for me to find out later.

My point about JL / XFF to be more neutral in her choice of words to Shen Yurong is not about being kind to him. Of course, XFF is going to be angry, disappointed, feeling betrayed etc by him, but she is now living under an assumed identity as a daughter of a rich reputable family. Her future as Jiang Li is good. She has also cleared the Xue family name and is in the midst of helping her new beau Duke Su bring down the bad people. If Shen Yurong is on the bad guys payroll, he is not going to be able to get away from what is coming for him. Karma will make sure of that. Now is a good time to distance herself from her ex and live life anew. Why should she continue to live under the shadow of this tragedy? She deserves happiness. Provoking Shen Yurong continues the feud. At the end of the episode 24, he now seems determined to bring her down.

I shall have to quickly catch up on more episodes to see what is going on.

I am slower in watching. I expect the reasons for him doing what he did to be clarified in later episodes. Yes, I find this Shen Yurong a deliciously complex character to watch! What he did to his wife is wrong, no two ways about it. But what was his intent? Greed? To hide that his mum and sister hired someone to ruin his wife's reputation? When did he start having an affair? Why did he do it? Why does a seemingly decent person do bad things? So many questions.

He is remorseful and it is something he has to live with. I am expecting him to be sacrificed later on to show his remorse to XFF. This is what makes this character so deliciously complex.

We shall see as more episodes get released.

Yes, strangely many folks pin the ruin XFF's reputation on Shen Yurong which as you pointed out, was actually done by his mum and sister.

And the other misunderstanding is that he intentionally buried her alive which is also not true. He had thought she was dead when he buried her.

Xue FangFei calling Shen Yurong a mean and pathetic man. That must have cut deep for him.

I feel bad for Shen Yurong as he looks like he genuinely loves Xue Fang Fei and misses her a lot. Given the fact that the man had tried to make it up to her multiple times by not calling her out in court, volunteering to be shot at, giving the winning vote to her for Guqin etc. She could have used more neutral comments instead of such cutting comments when they met in the streets. Understandably and rightfully so, she is feeling angry about being bashed on the head with a shovel and left for dead, but since she has a bright future ahead of her as Jiang Li, perhaps some words of closure to her ex instead? Harsh words and hurt feelings can only lead to more misery. Just bad juju. 😅

I guess the later episodes will show what made Shen Yurong attempt murder on his ex wife. Was he coerced by the demented princess or was he as greedy as his mother and sister for riches and status.

TTEOTM was impacted by the 40-episode cap. But now not only must new dramas tell the story in 40 episodes, they must cap each episode at 45min. Getting sooo challenging for c dramas. 😅

Ahhh....For me it was Kunning Palace that got me noticing the brilliant WXY and of course The Double is my other favourite drama.

It also hit me that WXY is so young but can carry off mature roles. Impressive!! To quote #HIKIKOMORI "Baby boy still smells like milk." Hahaha...I love #HIKIKOMORI's comments. But it is so true! When one watches the BTS of WXY, he is indeed a baby boy. He giggles a lot when he gets shy or awkward like a baby boy. Love him to bits.

I think it is ok to not like characters played by our favourite actors. If everyone had the same opinion, it's gonna be so vanilla right? 😊 Always interesting to hear another POV but of course done respectfully without turning into a "brawl of words".

I guess the producers might have expected it? This will not be the first time we see disappointed C fans express themselves and they can be so verbal about just how disappointed they are. 😅

This drama is also quite good, solid story line and acting. Fans will be disappointed even if it is 1 min less of Duke Su. We need more of him!! Don't cut his scenes! LOL
